Did anybody see it last night? Former Star Trek writer Naren Shankar wrote it, so it had a special 'in-joke' quality.

So, a writer/producer for a 'Star Trek' like series is the victim at a convention. A flashback has him showing his new 'take' on the classic, beloved series, and it's a deliberately satirical, over-the-top, angst-filled, deconstruction--rather like Battlestar Galactica or what DS9 was meant to be, but way past grim, to the point of nonsense.

Who's the first 'fan' in the audience at the convention screening that you can see--who screams "YOU SUCK!!!" at the top of his lungs? Writer/Producer Ronald D. Moore, in his mullet-sporting glory.

I couldn't stop laughing for ten freaking minutes.

Not the first time CSI has had such an episode actually...

There's been murders commited at a "little person's" convention, a "furries" convention, and even another sci-fi convention.

The little person's episode (http://www.tvguide.com/detail/tv-show.aspx?tvobjectid=100100&more=ucepisodelist&episodeid=3628724) was back in 2002.

So, eeehem indeed.

yes but the comic had guest apperances by people like Lady Gail and Sir Rucka (Spoiler.. who was the murderer!!!)

The craziest part of all of this, to me, is that Rich Johnston has his own wikipedia page. One I'm willing to bet good money was mostly authored by himself.
