I got the idea of this Thread from a guy on comic bloc, Keith Tarnowski, he is famous, he is in JSA #67 I think, A nice guy I might add.

Anyways.

What issues made you love the dc characters you love and follow, what is it about the issue and moment and makes you love them or sums them up for you.

Here is a few of mine copied and pasted from comic bloc to get things started.

Post yours and try post the scans or number of the issues in question.

Hope you enjoy and like.

Renne Montoya--52 #48 when she becomes the Question.

Good Question.

wouldn't you?

Hal Jordan--Rebirth #5.

That's not gonna work for me.

Zoom (Hunter zolomon) Flash #200. I am a bloody shameless lover of all things zoom. I totally love this villain.

Booster Gold--Booster gold #2--Booster meets sinestro and sort of helps inspire the sinestro corps. he uses guile to outsmart and calm down sinestro.Which showed me that booster is better served when using his head rather than his fists. As he isn't exactly mike tyson with the fists anyways.

I know this is not cannon but the idea of batman and a sidekick really rings home with me in the DKR by frank miller. I love this page.

Well I posted X-Factor #87 in the other thread, but since this is a DC forum, I'll go with...

Flash v2 #79. Not only did it feature an epic battle between Flash and Professor Zoom, but it also brought Wally out of Barry's shadow and made him his own man. The epilogue says it best.

there was a cover of the old Teen Titans that showed Dick and Wally walking away from their Robin and Kid flash costumes.

Hawkman

These pages from Hawkman #12 by Johns and Morales pretty much capture why I enjoy not just Hawkman, but also the dynamic between Carter and Kendra. Specifically for Hawkman, though, I think Johns really captures here why he's such a tragic yet dedicated hero. (Note: These aren't splash pages, but I had to merge them to fit 'em all in.)

That is sad. Hawkman is sad. I love him in JLA, in JSA, but I seriously can't get into his own book. What is wrong with me?

Catwoman #77

http://i421.photobucket.com/albums/pp296/ScottyQuick/SelinaLove.jpg

After beating up the Justice League, Selina TOTALLY JUST LIT A CIGARETTE WITH HAL JORDAN'S POWER RING!

Titans #20

http://i421.photobucket.com/albums/pp296/ScottyQuick/JQuickLove.jpg

Jesse's a crazy-ass multi-tasker who decides to stop a robbery while getting groceries on her way home from her job as a CEO of a major corporation.

I forget which issue it is, but that issue of the Authority where Midnighter opens his cloak to reveal all his torture weapons, and there's a MINI STAPLER OMG. That's why I love him.

This issue did it for me, The entire New Teen Titans run back in the 80s was basically my first encounter with DC characters , and they proved to be just as great and interesting as the Marvel characters and in many cases more so.
Anyone reading this issue will love the way this story panned out, I had never read anything that pulled on the heart strings as this one did for me, it was great, 10/10

Here's a couple of scans from Batgirl #58. I think they perfectly visualize what Cassandra is all about. On one hand she's a top tier martial artist without equal...
http://img16.imageshack.us/img16/7232/batgirl1.jpg

...but on the other hand, she struggles with everyday things that you and I take for granted (like reading):

What I had always liked about Wonder Woman was that she was superhero about something more than just fighting... She actually did things to try and change the world.... And well she's not afraid to be controversial... That what makes her a hero to me....

These scans below are from an issue where Lois Lane spends a day in thr life of Wonder Woman in order to write a special story for the Planet... All the green captions are from Lois's persepctive

The pages that contained this text, still send chills down my spine to this day.

"The time has come. You know it in your soul. For I am your soul...You cannot escape me. You are puny, you are small – You are nothing – A hollow shell, a rusty trap that cannot hold me – Smoldering, I burn you – burning you, I flare, hot and bright and fierce and beautiful – You cannot stop me – not with wine or vows of the weight of age"

On of my favorite Batman moments is in Detective #786, the last part of the "Made of Wood" Storyline with Alan Scott.

Bruce is driving undercover in a car with Alan to go save Gordon, and Bruce is explaining how he figured it out. He says "This is what detective work is. You take what ever facts you have, and create a narrative. You try to imagine how it might have been." Alan says to Bruce "What happens if you imagine it wrong?"

To that Bruce looks at him and replies "I'll let you know if it ever happens..."

Mon-el

He has all the powers of Superman, but he's lost a great deal. Yes, Superman lost Krypton, but he was an infant and that's not a real part of his daily life. Mon-el has lost the world he knew, and to a real extent, he's even lost Lar Gand. He spent a millennium trapped in the Phantom Zone, and that taught him patience and has made him a great leader, wise behind his years, even for a long-lived Daxamite.

Ooops!

Missed the One Issue bit, but I still love Mon-el!

I don't have a particular image for it, but I think "Night of the Stalker" from Detective #439 is a pretty good representation of what I love about Batman.

It establishes the core elements to his character: his drive, his ability to instill fear in the criminals he hunts, and his humanity. Not every defining characteristic, but some important ones.

I don't know why it works so well for me, but it does. A lot of people tend to cite Year One or The Dark Knight Returns as their favorites, but Night of the Stalker is probably mine. I've always loved that story and have read it several times over. It was one of the earliest stories I read (I had cool relatives, you see), so that may be why...

I'm not sure of the issue number but it was during the Pulsar Stargrave arc in the original Legion series. In it, Princess Projectra is on the run with a couple of other Legionnaires when they're attacked by large robots. She uses her powers to make the robots believe their fighting (and losing) to these huge monsters. It's then that the other Legionnaires realize that she can make people and even robots believe what she wants them to believe and that, therefore, she was probably the most powerful Legionnaire. I'm a huge Projectra fan and I remember reading that and thinking, "Finally, someone gets it."

Flash #0 for the Wally West.

Everything about that issue perfectly captured his character - none more so than his conversation with his young self.

But that #79 part is right up there too.

Don't remember the Green Arrow issue, but I think it's in the Moving Targets TPB. He's feeling helpless about Mia Dearden's trials, so he decides to walk right into Brick's lair (the super-powered gangster trying to overrun Star City) and pick a fight with him. He just says, "I am here to kick your ass."

Great stuff

Saga of the Swamp Thing #21 is a really genius re-imagining of the character origin and pretty much sets up everything that was to follow while being in line with everything that had happened before. I always thought it was really cool that Len Wein edited the issue by Alan Moore.

The Jokerfish story in Detective 475 and 476 is to me the definitive modern Joker story. Yeah the Joker is deadly and dangerous, but I think often times creators don't capture the absurdity like the whole angle with the Fish in that story.

I always liked but never loved DC characters, but the issue that sold me on them being real, is Who Is Donna Troy from the Titans. From the opening and closing in shadows with pencils and inks from Perez, to all the scenes in between (not inked by Perez) Dick came alive as a character and Donna to a lessor degree.

Not a single fight and almost all in their normal identity (not their costumed ones). It was awesome.

This tidbit sold me on Impulse forever! It's from 'World Without Grown-ups and shows why mind games weren't the brightest tactic against Bart, as Joker Junior soon learns.
