I don't understand how DC has screwed this up again. He was a hot property at the end of '52' and now a couple of years later he is back to the whole "lost powers/powers not working correctly".
Did he lose his ability to grab alien animal powers, also?
This is the first time that a preview has actually made me decide not to buy a book.

IIRC, it's set in the future when he's older, not the present-day.

I will give this a shot, but Animal Man should really be Grant Morrison's. Sure he didn't invent the character but he made him into something we care about.
It also helps thazt this is set in the future and continuity free, so even if it sucks it won't harm Animal Man.

The series is essentially Animal Man: The End. It has no impact on current Animal or his status in the DCU. DC hasn't screwed up anything.
As for the 'Morrison only' point - I don't think Morrison should be the only person to write the character. Morrison is in a position to write any book he likes, so if he was interested in returning to Animal Man then I'm sure he could. But clearly he wants to do other things so why should Animal Man be left in limbo because of this. Who's to say that there isn't another writer out there that has an interesting and innovative take on the character.
To put it another way: What if DC had decided that only Dave Wood should write Animal Man. We'd never have seen Morrison's take on the character and we wouldn't be discussing this point today.

Gerry Conway is writing this and like others have said, the story takes place in the near future.
Hey. I read all of Morrison's run on Animal Man. I liked it. Is reading the rest of the series worth it, or is it just disappointing? Do I keep going!?

I enjoyed the post-Morrison issues, although the series suffered a little towards the end.

The Power Company preview had the same effect on me.

The six issues by Peter Milligan that follow Morrison's run are fantastic.
Tom Veitch's run after that doesn't quite work - but it's not bad and has some nice Steve Dillon art.
Jaimie Delano's run starts of strongly and decends into self indulgent drivel by the end.
Jerry Prosser (I think) took over for the few issues at the end that are terrible.

Milligan's short run immediately after is pretty good.

...Animal Man should really be Grant Morrison's.
I'd just like to wholeheartedly agree with this. Though I've heard good things about Peter Milligan's run on the book.

sorry to disagree but this preview has sold me on conways writing and this mini.
It looks and sounds great, love the new villain.

zero interest in this min or pretty much animal man as a whole.
I did enjoy him in 52 but I am good for now.

I loved Grant Morrison's Animal Man, so I will probably be checking this out.
