Is it just me or does Rick Tyler seem just a little "whipped" since his marrige to Liberty Bell?
John's created a very interesting charcter than seemed to have him take a step backward with the relaunch.
Hopefully the new team will make him interesting again.

I think a pill popping hero was bound to be pushed into the background in the steroid era.

I guess in some ways steroids are an addiction but that is what Hourmans problem is; an addiction not steroids that would be putting a strain on his organs and immune system.

I don't think his pill has ever been classified as a steroid but there is an easy connection to draw.
It is certainly topical enough. Have they ever done an addiction story line with him it seems like an obvious road to go down?

I can't remember any storyline since Rick's return dealing with the impact of Miraclo on his body, but he was suffering from leukemia attributed to Miraclo in the pages of Peyer and Morales' Hourman.
Rex Tyler is continually referred to as an addict in the pages of Starman, although it is mentioned that he was more addicted to the lifestyle of a superhero than the Miraclo itself.

It was established that Miraclo is addictive, thats why Rex Tyler was opposed to his son follwing in his footsteps and pushed him to improve his education.
And it was established that Rick had become addicted to Miraclo untill Rex developed a non-addictive formula.
Getting back on track, does it seem like Johns had him take a back-seat to his wife in the current story-lines?

Whipped? No, just happy.
Standing around in the background of big crowd scenes? Yes, but that goes for almost everybody in the JSA these days. It's too bad that they canceled JSA: Classified, because that was the only way that most of these characters could get more attention.

Its true, at first I loved the Hourman/Liberty Bell thing, but it now it seems like they've become one single boring entity.
