View Full Version : Old solicitation info? Comic Images merchandise questions

I've been trying to find solicitation info from around 1986-1987. I'm basically trying to dig up information on what Comic Images G.I.Joe merchandise was released or solicited around that time.

I know they released pins, posters, trading cards, prints, postcards and t-shirts, just trying to figure out what they released in each category. I've searched all the Joe sites, information is incomplete or inconclusive, especially with the pins/buttons. Previews and Advance Comics catalogs don't go back that far, so back issues aren't going to help. Comic Images doesn't have an archive or any record of what they released, I've asked them.

Anybody have any resource for something like this? Any retailers who are complete packrats?

Contacting Westfield Comics might (and I emphasis the might), have an archive of their monthly solicitations newsletter. By 1986 or so, it became a 20 + page publication. I think Mark Waid was working for them in this time frame as well. Not that it has anything much to do with your inquiry, but that memory did flip through my memory banks just now.

I do have a small handfull of issues, but nothing from those years that you are interested in. I kept mainly the issues with interesting interviews, and the ones that also contain some letters from dude in Rochester. The historical side of me wished I had kept lots more of this ancillary material.

Sounds like a good place to start (especially since I'll be in Madison Friday!)Otherwise I remember seeing N.I.C.E. ads back then in comics too, so another possibility. Looks like the MSU library has a decent collection of back issues of the Westfield newsletter, but nothing you can access online.

Thanks!
