London,An Alternate Earth(In the Prime Minister's imagination!):Excalibur(In this dimension, composed of the teenage male team of Arizona,Dark Tiger,Nightcrawler and Morgan) defeat a platoon of Nazi soldiers in Cebtral London and turn them over to W.H.O......Their stern leader(a very muscular female Captain Britain!)joins them and tells them they need to return to their base to continue their lessons.....Later that evenging Captain Britain brings her charges cocoa and reads them some Charles Dickens in front of a roaring fire......After they go to bed,she tidies up after them and contemplates her existence as teacher to the shining future of the realm.
London,Earth 616:Margaret Thatcher, the Prime Minister wakes with a start after a session with her therapist......She thanks him for his help, telling him she feels invigorated after the session.....After she leaves, the therapist reveals his real identity--Mesmero!.....He's delighted with his new career which he thinks will make him rich.
The opening sequence confused me at first......I wasn't really sure what was going on.....But while glancing through the issue again,it dawned on me that that opening sequence might be a dream Mrs. Tatcher had while under Mesmero's hypnosis.....I'm still not sure if that was the intention or not--I suppose it'll all be revealed in the next couple of issues......I'm struggling to remember much from this story the first time I read it years ago......(Also,that opening sequence disappointed me a bit--I felt I'd had enough of alternative realities for the moment so it was a bit of a downer for Claremont to plunge right back into another dimensional storyline,or so it appeared).
Well, that sequence came out of nowhere. It had little or no bearing on the plot (the only part that had any bearing happened after the dream was over, and Mesmero's new career was revealed), it was way over the top in terms of ridiculousness even in context, and after it happens, no one speaks of it again. Indeed, the whole dream sequence is never mentioned again.
I think Nostalgia Critic and/or Nostalgia Chick fans know what such things are called.
Voice (backed by angelic choir): A BIG LIPPED ALLIGATOR MOMENT!
As a Kitty Pryde fan from way back, I liked 'Girl's School From Heck'. It wasn't the best Excalibur story, but it was fun.
