Be honest, JAU, we have no idea how old Emma Frost actually is. One issue she's 35, the next she's twenty-seven. She could be 4 this week.
We need all of our comic book characters to be carrying valid ID, just to be sure.

You make a lot of assumptions. You people make it out to be a bad thing that underage children should wear appropriate clothing. I don't know why Illyana fans enjoy seeing their character sexualized like this or why Kitty fans are ok with her throwing her snatch at Colossus when she's 15. No one seems to care that Pixie plays baseball in a swimsuit in freaking Wales of all places.
It's worse than you think. Kitty wasn't 15, she was 14. At 15, maybe 16 at most, she went on "holiday" in London with Alistaire Stewart. At 17, maybe 18 at most, she was getting railed by Pete Wisdom.

okay. i can see where an older crowd finds this wrong, sure. comics though are based at a teenage crowd. we as adults may still read them, but the focus is the new younger generation coming up. so a 15 year old boy going to a comic shop to by comics will enjoy seeing the younger crowd look sexy. you say its okay for emma and psylocke and typhoid mary and every other dominatrix dressed 'woman' to wear such clothes because they are of age.... umm hello they are art on a page. we find it okay because we are of age to enjoy such images, us adults shouldnt be gawking at magik or pixie, yes. but the kids you so blindly neglect as a reading community want to see their favorites just as sexy as we see ours, so whats wrong with that?

Decency can mean just about anything you want it to mean. Frankly, imo, it's indecent for you to be making an issue of it. I very much blame this mentality on the fact many young adults, which imo begins around 16, aren't ready to lead mature lives. Society's misguided attempts to protect them has stunted their emotional and psychological growth.
Just because underage characters are showing skin doesn't mean adults watching it get any kind of thrill from it. Frankly, showing your disgust over it does show that your mind automatically goes there, which I find disturbing.
Please, don't try and put this back on me, the examples I sighted are so blatantly obvious you would have to Helen Keller not to notice it.

Down to the issue at hand.
Most of the time the underage girls arent doing anything sexual or provocative, so all the artists are doing is portraying younger girls wearing things younger girls are, in all honesty, likely to wear.

especially when the issues and characters she cite's weren't all as bad they could have been.
The New Mutants were in Brazil and they all wore swimsuits that were appropriate and i don't think they looked all that sexual compared to what people normally wear down there.

That is not the alternative I have been suggesting. My whole point is why does it have to be a beach in Brazil (where it's been said they wear very skimpy outfits to begin with). Why write that knowing the subjects are underage children? Is it an excuse to just put them in tiny clothes and parade them around.

Ask the slave's master, Ahab.
According to Davis, Claremont wanted a "blossoming unconscious sexuality". They threw her in the hound outfit, gave her some heavenly honkers and meaty muscles, crafted the definitive Phoenix effect and it was AWESOME. In a way it's visually representative of Rachel's character moving past being just a victim, taking charge of her past and inverting it's symbols to empower herself. She's strong, powerful and sexual, rather unlike the Rachel who arrived in 616 a year or so earlier in Uncanny.

So then why make her 17? If she's a child from the future, why not make her 18?
What's it matter? She was enslaved at 14, brainwashed, branded, continually abused, probably raped, forced to murder, etc, etc. Part of the tragedy of Rachel's story is how vulnerable she was when she went through hell, and what she lost in the process. She was definitely sexualized in Excalibur, but she was empowered simultaneously... her change was total, both physical and emotional. This was precisely about her not being a child anymore, even if not strictly "legal" yet.

Genuine concern about what? That readers will develop paedophilic tendencies based on reading X-Men books? That X-writers are paedophiles? That underage kids will think its ok to wear bikinis to the beach?
Are you also worried that marvel books encourage violent vigilante ethnic violence? That all the teachers in the world might start thinking its ok to dress like Emma Frost in class? That scientists will take Beasts lesson and experiment on themselves?
Im not saying it isnt an issue. Greg Land making Pixie look like a porn star is not ok. But getting angry about X-writers portraying underage teens in bikinis and swim shorts when underage kids DO WEAR bikinis and swim shorts just seems a little over-protective, imo.

well when someone said "so 15 year old girls arent allowed to go to the beach?"
your response was
"i hope you havent graduated high school yet"
implying either
a)that if they HAVE graduated they are what, too old to be allowed to even consider the idea of 15 years olds at the beach? and therefore a pervert
Or
b) that their post was of the quality expected from a teenager, potentially insulting the poster if they have graduated.

No it doesn't, it ties directly into why I started the thread. These characters aren't real, I know it's tough, so their actions are the result of a script someone wrote. In that script it mentioned for them to be abducted and have them fight in what they were wearing. Knowing that, why put them at a beach? Just so the artist could draw a bunch of kids in cheesecake poses while wearing bathing suits? Kids go to the beach, I get it, I did it as a kid too. I also went to parks and the mall and the movies. Why put underage children in this situation? Just to draw them in skimpy outfits?

the only thematic reason i can see for that scene in question was to highlight the severity of karma's obesity at the time.
if you recall, she was throwing things at storm from the couch of a darkened room during the exact same time as the other kids were on the beach.
chowing down on cheeseburgers and fries while karma was pitching a fit and threatening suicide over her fatness would have accomplished the same goal.

I already posted earlier that I understand your issues with oversexualization of teenagers in comics (it's an issue with women in comics too), I just don't get that the issue stretches way beyond general oversexualization to the depiction of teenagers in regular teenage situations for you.
There's just a lot of situations (and I'm including Illyana's demonic form in this, just be glad that she's wearing anything, something that a lot of demons in comics do not) where I don't think it the illustrations are aimed to create sex appeal at all.
That picture was just my response to the continuation of the whole recurring 'New Mutants at the beach' topic.

Out of curiosity, you didnt respond to a question in my earlier posts. Why is it ok for an 18 year old to be into S&M but not a 17 year old? If its a purely moral objection, do you honestly think 12 months or less is a big enough difference in someones mentality and social awareness at that age that makes a big swing in whether they are ready to make that sort of choice or not?

OK this is really getting out of hand. I even went out of my way to make a profile to respond in this thread.
First and foremost, people are entitled to their opinions and if you don't agree with them you need to get over it. This is for everyone on the forum
Second, and more on topic, while yes objectifying minors in revealing clothing is wrong, in this situation this is clearly not the case. The kids are at a beach, where it is a common place to wear a swimsuit. Why did the writer choose said beach, fuck if I know. Maybe that's just what they were in the mood for that day. They picked a beach, the characters are wearing swimsuits, and they are not by any means being objectified in a state of undress.
Third and finally, DiamondHart, you really need to chill out. I've read this entire thread I find it kind of sad that while you tried to bring up an interesting topic, you obviously can't deal with the fact that the majority of the people on here don't agree with you. You even lack the maturity to be the bigger person and just walk away. You continue to come back and insult everyone who disagrees with you. Yes, what some of the other posters are saying is disrespectful however, you need to learn when it is time to just walk away.
Well there's my two cents...

Yes, what some of the other posters are saying is disrespectful, you need to learn when it is time to just walk away.

Because if it's the latter, i'd direct you to a post i made last night, where, in the most respectful way that i could, i went into great detail about why i disagree with your point of view. You may have missed it while fighting for children's rights.
