I would love to see more done with this character and I wonder if an Azrael ongoing is Fabian's new book

I havent really felt for the new az yet. I hope issue number 2 makes me feel more for him. I want JPV back.

Hopefully they won't kill him off Orpheus style...

I agree. Michael Lane is a cool character, I'd like to see more of him, either as Azrael, or in some other role.

Well, new "hero" Az appeared on like 2 pages, didn't he? I thought the Az in the beginning was meant to be a bad guy.

I wouldn't mind JPV coming back. I enjoyed his series, for the most part.

I believe that in one of the early interviews, Fabian implied that an ongoing was a possibility, if sales on the mini were encouraging enough.

I've been getting the Battle for the Cowl mini issues and reading them. I love Fabian's writing style, and I really enjoy the art. But the character is doing nothing for me. I find myself not caring one way or the other about Lane and his life.

If they made an ongoing series, I'd probably pick up least the first story arc. But I just can't see this character ever getting interesting to me.

The mini has been solid.

I would buy an ongoing in some way, either trade or singles.

I had no interest in Azrael in the 90's and even less now. The worst of the BFTC tie-ins.

Have you even read these? It's not even the same character!

The chances of Jean Paul Valley coming back are pretty slim, unless Denny O'Neil is the one to write the series.

JPV is one of those characters like Tommy Monaghan (Hitman) or Jack Knight (Starman) who is "retired" and never used again out of respect for the writer/creator of the character.

Fabian even said so himself in a recent interview:

“The reason why we decided not to bring Jean-Paul back was simply out of respect for Denny O’Neil’s incredible run on the character,” offered Nicieza. “He wrote 100-plus issues of Jean-Paul, and I felt that I would be doing this great writer, the fans of that title and ultimately, Jean-Paul, a disservice if I tried to write the character. I know it could sound odd, ‘Out of respect you chose not to write his character,’ but often when reviving characters like this that are so properly identified with a singular creative vision, you’re in a no-win situation. I’d rather err on the side of crafting something new.

The only reason I have trouble getting behind this character, is because he is the Third Batman, and will be killed by Damien in the future (if that ever happens).

I've read the first two issues, and the new Azrael bores me. Bring back Jean Paul!

issue two was great. I want this to become ongoing

I'm enjoying this story, but I find the over-all concept cool. You know, a guy killing, etc. in the name of God. I'm definitely going to try and get my hands on some trades or comics that have a strong emphasis on the Azrael of the past and see how that is. I just didn't understand the ending of issue #2, if anyone would shoot me a pm and give me their thoughts, that'd be great.

While the new Azrael doesn't have to be Jean Paul Valley, I wouldn't mind it if the current AZRAEL crew would do a little more to connect the present Azrael with Jean Paul's Azrael. Thus far, other than sharing a name and a few motifs, there seems to be no connection between this Azrael and the previous one.

Is this new Azrael the same as the old in the costume persona ? The same elements, theme of the hole St.Dumas etc

If so i would support it mini and/or ongoing. I always found Azrael persona more interesting than JPV himself.

Well it's your lucky day

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg folks–Tony Daniel makes his triumphant return to the Bat-books in a short while, and later this year we have the series debut of both BATGIRL and AZRAEL!

Well i finally read the mini and im excited for the ongoing. I hope it gets a fair chance and not forgotten because its NOT PJV.

Michael Lane is a cool character and twisted but good Azreal.

Hope they keep Irving his art fit really well.

I too thought it was the best of the BftC side stories and like the idea of lane trying to redeem himself by being the new azrael, and the twist at the end of who the order really takes it orders from. While lane was the original `third man' that doesnt mean for sure he's the `third man' who returns in the 666 future by the way. Jason Todd already wore a remodled of the third man suit, im sure someone else could one day.

I thought the Azrael mini was quite good (Fabian's stuff is typically rock solid, but it was Frazer Irving's art that sealed the deal). I'm glad to see Azrael II will be getting some love with an ongoing.

But I am a little curious about it, since theoretically, "ten years comics time from now", isn't Damian going to kill the guy?

Now, I don't actually believe Batman # 666 is "destined to happen", in fact, I think more likely each passing issue of Batman and Robin will make Batman 666 seem more and more like a dream/hallucination/nightmare of Damian's, Dick Grayson's, or Alfred's.

But I'm still curious about it, since Morrison is hardly done using Doctor Hurt, Bruce will be back, and Lane, as sympathetic as I am for him, is the Third Batman.

But at least that's compelling - it feels like his time is running out as far as The Devil is manipulating him, even as he tries to work with the side of "angels" to gain absolution.

Well the current Batman forgave him for being that and made him Azrael again in the mini. Why shouldnt the readers be happy with that ?

The guy was used, he is good guy with a little issues and that's the interesting part.

I agree about Frazer Irving his art is really different and cool. He was the most surprise in the mini. Fabian is a proven writer with Deadpool,Bat books.

Also 666 was some what if at best. Nothing to do with current time line and that time will never happen since it would mean the end of Batman, him going out a really bad way.
