Well, after going to my lcs, I now realize there are some very fine books out there that I did not get. Altogether, they were too expensive for one outing, on top of what I got. But maybe for presents or whatnot.
Here they are:
1. Debbie Drechsler, Daddy's Girl
-A very moving, intense, semi-autobiography of Debbie and the incest of her childhood. I have read many all of Phoebe Gloeckner's works and in those are similar themes of child abuse, but nothing like what I was reading about when I browsed this book. This requires focused, respectful reading times.
2. Ivan Brunetti, Misery Loves Comedy
-OMG!! Just looking at all this self-depreciation, humor and un-PC action made my eyes and brain explode!! I'm not sure if this book has a point, but there's a lot of madness in this collection and I'm not sure if I'd appreciate it more or less upon reading the full volume. What I saw was like every satire or 'wrong' comedy comic book I've ever seen, rolled into one. Never subtle, the bluntness of this 'comedy' is just crazy!
3. Popgun, vol.3
-Checking out this issue is definitely worth anyone's time who appreciates random anthologies, like I do. I thought DarkHorse's MySpace Presents was pretty good, but this one from Image is definitely up there as well. And for the price, it's VERY good. I know I read this in a review, but to look with my own eyes and feel with my own hands, this hefty book is definitely worth it. Hopefully, there's not a shortage of it or anything soon.
4. I Saw You...: Comics Inspired by Real-Life Missed Connections
-Yeah, I didn't get this when it came out a little while ago, but there are so many great cartoonists whom I respect, that it was a hard one to pass up. Initially looking at it, I just felt like too many of the stories were short, but that was the premise of the book. I really hope to get this for a present soon though. And of course the only thing is that it IS about Craig'sList, purveyor of underaged and prisoned underaged girls so..I am a bit tenative that any of the funds would go to them....
5. Ghost, Omnibus, volume 1
-What's this?? Omnibus? When did this come out!?!? 300 pages of the Dark Horse comics! I was browsing this, amazed! Yes, some of the issues from the original issues were included. I couldn't beleive it! The only drawback was that it was smaller, not quite 'digest' size, but only a little bigger and it's not cheap. But man, I really want this!
These five books are prominent on my mind right now, anyone thinking about their wishlists as well? :smile:
