I bought the first Ron Marz Witchblade TPB this week and in one sitting the binding came apart! I went to look for a replacement, and on Amazon I read about similar problems with the Witchblade line. Is this a common problem at Top Cow?

is it the older volumes or the current branding of trades........ I have all the current one's released so far and haven't had a problem. I live in aus and I'ved had heaps of trades binding give out in the summer heat before, IDW is the worst for this but I've had it happen with just about evrery publisher at least once.

It's the $6 edition, so I'm assuming it's an older volume. I know the cardstock cover is very stiff, moreso than many trades. Has this come up with Top Cow trades before?

which print run is it from? (i.e., first printing, second printing,?) I think it says on the verso page.
I have that trade, bought it probably about a year ago, and had no such problems.

It's from the first print run. Did that run have some problems?

My copy of the TPB also fell apart after the first read
I checked out the other TPBs at local bookstores, and they all had the same terrible binding. Id like to read the rest, but not in this condition. :frown:

Damn, that's too bad. Aw well, I've been meaning to spend less anyway.

My copy practically exploded as I read it. Pages started to fall out and I opened it wider and the just flew into the air. Made it fairly difficult to read, not knowing which pages went where. :)
Thank heavens the super duper sized HC is nothing like that.

Are you talking about the compendiums? I'm talking about the Ron Marz trades.

Hi Everyone,
We did have binding issues with the rebranded Witchblade Volume 1, 2, and 3. We caught Volume 3 early because it was such a large volume the binding fell apart quickly, so that volume was reprinted and all of the new copies available now should not have any binding problems. We only recently found out that fans and stores were having problems with the earlier volumes.
We've spoken to the printer and it turned out they had a bad batch of binding glue. We're working with them now to get the volumes reprinted.
This was an isolated incident and only affected three volumes because we had them printed all at once. Once we get the new copies in stock at Diamond I'll update everyone on how they can get their copies replaced.
In the meantime, please email us at fanmail@topcowent.com with your info so we can take care of the problem for you.
Thanks!

Yes, I know that. I was just saying thank God that the HC Compendium didn't suffer the same fate. That would have been a disaster. There were a number of HC's back in the early 90's from numerous publishers that would actually explode when opened with a loud crack. DC lost their shirt on one release. Wish I could remember what it was.

Just an update. I bought new editions of the first two Marz Witchblade TPB's and the binding seems to be holding up fine. Now I can finally continue this series!

I've kept it so far. Not sure if a bookstore would take it considering the shape it's in. Luckily it was the $5 edition at 40% off, so it was only like a $3 loss.
And it did introduce me to the recent Witchblade, which is pretty good! If you told me five years ago I would like Witchblade, I'd probably laugh at you. Who knew?

Hey Predator,
That's kind of the plan, making believers out of potential fans with a deal they can't refuse;)
