View Full Version : Mignola at Dragon Con
The Left Hand of Doom

Hey all -
Since Mr. M is scheduled to appear at Dragon Con this year (and I have family in Atlanta), I thought I might attend. However, the $90 "membership" fee is a bit daunting, especially since I would be at the con two days at the most. Has anyone ever attended before? Based on the website (http://www.dragoncon.org), it looks to be more sci fi/TV/movie driven than comic book. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I'm also currently planning on attending DragonCon since Atlanta will be the closest Mike Mignola has ever gotten to my neck of the woods in recent years. The tickets or “memberships” are $80 a pop if you order before May 15th – after that they keep going up. You’re lucky you have family down there; my friends and I are looking at also having to split a hotel bill.
One of the problems that I’m facing besides money is the fact that unlike most cons I’m used to attending (namely Charlotte’s HeroesCon) Mignola is the only guest at DragonCon I have any interest in.
This would be my first year going but I’ve heard mixed things about this Con. Some people have told me that comic book fans would have no interest in it but a couple people I know from work went down last year and said it was great – then again they’re not big comic book buffs, more into the RPG/video game scene, though one of them is a fan of Hellboy.
…I just really wish that Mignola would come back to Charlotte for HeroesCon – I know everyone here would love that.
this looks like a cool line-up:biggrin:

I'm definitely going. Atl's only 3 hours from me, anyway. While Mike will be a huge draw for me, I would probably go anyway (and I've been five times before).
DragonCon is definitely an experience. Every area of the geek spectrum is well-represented, and some of the friendliest and most interesting people I meet are at DC. There is also usually a good line-up of comic book artists and writers (I believe Darwyn Cooke is scheduled to be there, as well), and the dealers' room is quite a draw too, featuring several comic book and related merchants.
On a related note, does anyone know if Mike will be selling off any art pages? I know it's not likely, given his recent output, but it's something of a dream of mine to own one. If so, I'll be first in line.
But if you haven't gone to DC before, check it out. It's worth every ducat.

I guess I'll be lugging my weight the 10 mins it takes to get to the con this year. I usually drop in to see Allie and folks. I'm amazed that Mike has decided to come to my town finally. Allie didn't think he'd ever want to visit Dragon Con.
he's coming over to visit his good buddy,Maurice!

Gives me hope that i'll be seeing him at the Highland Comic Expo sometime soon.
Yeah okay that's pushing it...

Oh, Astrid will be there. I have yet to meet Humberto Ramos, I look forward to getting a sketch.

I don-t think this will help to make any final decision in going to the show or not ;),
but I will be there as guest as well this year (my fourth in a row).
Last year I was sitting side by side wit Bernie Wrightson, which made it extra
special for me :)
Looking forward to see again Mike, Darwin and the other cool people behind and
on front of the tables :)

I saw Bernie Wrightson, but I guess I didn't know to come by and say hi. I'll do so this time out.
