Okay, ever since Battle for the Cowl started, people have been speculating about what the status quo of the Batman books are going to be over the next year or so. Most have come to the conclusion that Dick Grayson will be Batman, Damien Al Ghul will be Robin, Tim Drake will be Red Robin, and as for Batgirl…well, that’s really up in the air whether or not it’s going to be Cassandra Cain still, Stephanie Brown, or even a healed Barbara Gordon. However, here’s what I’d like to know:

What will be the status quo of the Batman books when Bruce Wayne comes back?

Because let’s face it, since it’s confirmed he’s alive (albeit living like a caveman in prehistoric times) we know he’s going to return and don the cape and cowl once again. However, due to what seem like massive changes while he’s gone, how would his return affect those changes. Well, here’s my guesses:

As Grant Morrison hinted in Batman #666, it seems like the path is being set that Bruce Wayne remained “dead” and that Dick Grayson will also die, leaving room for Damien to take over as Batman. However, since we know that Bruce is alive, my guess is that his return will upset this path for Dick to get killed and Damien to become Batman. In fact, I think, as a result of Bruce’s return, it will be Damien who ends up getting killed, possibly by Two-Face or the Joker. This will have two consequences: One is that Talia will blame Bruce for the death of their son, and will no be a sworn enemy of Batman’s, firmly siding with her father, Ra’s Al Ghul. The second will be Dick Grayson, not only donning the identity of Nightwing once again, but wanting to have nothing what so ever to do with Bruce ever again. Tim Drake will return as Batman’s crime fighting partner, but will stay in his Red Robin persona.

So, anyone else have any ideas as to what might happen to the Batman comics after Bruce comes back?

I am very very very frigthened they killing Dick and think it may happen.

About Damien being killed and Talia being Batmanīs now determined enemy, that sounds cool. Most people didnt really like him anyways.

I just want them not to kill Nightwing D8(and him returning as Nightwing.... and toning down the darkness in him.... damn.... I might as well ask a million dollars and a pony -_-)

I doubt the future in issue #666 is seriously intended to be the official future for the character. Once Grant is gone it will be forgotten, so I wouldn't look there for too many clues.

How Bruce's return will be handled will depend on who's writing it.

If it's Winnick, then we'll probably have to buy some Annual that tells us that Superboy Prime punched him back to the present or something like that.

If it's Morrison, he will just show up out of nowhere and continue being Batman with no explanation.

If it's Jeph Loeb, he will probably be rescued by Superman with whom he will share criss-crossing thoughts about one another.

Why so frightened? My attitude is that Superman and Batman and Jason Todd and Wonder Woman and Spoiler and Raven and Terra and Jericho and Barry Allen and Oliver Queen and Hal Jordan and Alfred Pennyworth and Cassandra Cain and Lady Shiva and lots of other people in the DCU have all died and then inevitably come back from the dead in their day -- along with practically everyone at Marvel who's ever been an X-Man, it seems -- so why not let Dick Grayson do the same silly thing?

Remember, there are things called possible futures. Check out the Legion and Kamandi. A possible future in #666 was the death of Bruce Wayne and Damian taking over as Batman.

Hahaha Well for starters I dont like some characters to die. Between those Batman and Nightwing. I dont know they are humans(Batman pretty iconic but just human) and it doesnt feels right that they kill them and then revive them in some strange comic way. I think its okay Batman just went to the past.... i thought it may be worse. What I say about Dick is beacause he was nightwing but he had being gooing backwards in what refers to developing his own char and becoming darker and other stuff, well, maybe if he died and become ligthhearted again when resurrected x_x I just want DC not to lose Nightwing s he seemed intended in the begining... a more Ligth hearted batman(sort of speak) that is very different just because of that, better leader as he is more charismatic and retains the strategic part and all you can derive from those qualities

If it's Geoff Johns, the story will be called BATMAN: REBIRTH and be illustrated by Ethan Van Scriver.

I tend to think (hope) Dick is safe considering the fuss that happened last time editorial was going to kill him (Infinite Crisis).
