View Full Version : So I want a tattoo of the Batsymbol...

So I'm considering a tattoo. I want the Batsymbol. But I can't decide which one to get. I want one that looks bad ass but is easily recognized as the Batsymbol. I want one that looks like the wings are spread. And I don't want it to look like a Batarang either. And I don't want one from a movie. I want it to look sinister but at the same time have that "I can't look away it's too kool" kinda effect to it. Any suggestions?

I'd say for instant recognizibility, you have to go with the Batsymbol on yellow background.

I was talking to a tattoo artist about getting the Superman "S" insigna on my arm. He said yellow fades noticably quicker than other colors and has to be redone about every 5 years if you want it to look right.

I asked for suggestions for a tattoo not a rude ass comment. Why do people like you do that crap? Does it give you a feeling of gratification because you insulted someone? Do you do that just to feel better about yourself? Is your self-esteem THAT low that you have the audacity to make fun of someone in such a way? Why do people like you always have to pick on someone just because, to YOU, they're lame? You are NOT the one getting the tattoo. And apparently you have no positive input pertaining to my post. So WHY waste your "precious" time just to read it and post asinine comments?

Those are kool lookin. I'm going for a symbol that looks like the wings are spread. And one that looks like a symbol not a Batarang. Ya know what I mean?
And I want to stay away from the symbols they used for the movies and shows as much as possible. I don't know why but I don't want people to say "That's the symbol from so and so Batman movie!"
But anyways! I'll just ask my friend to draw one for me and I'll post it up to see what you think of that...

If you are going to do it, the current logo would look cool.

However, I suggest you seriously think about getting a tattoo of a butt, on your butt, with a butt shapped tattoo on it.

I've been considering a Bat tattoo myself, and was going to start a thread just like this myself, but I'm probably a few weeks or months away from going through with it. I'll get it on my shoulder though.

There doesn't seem to be one truly definitive bat symbol, but there's quite a few that work for recognizability. I don't think I've seen that one from the T-shirt before. Not wild about it, personally.

Lol. I wasn't pissed off at all. I was just responding in a calm way. Trying to catch the guy off guard just in case that person was expecting a pissed off response. Trying to get at em with a philosophical response to make them rethink their petty lives. xD ...But come to think about it, it really wasn't that deep. I could of put more of the "rethink your life" stuff in it. Lol.

But ANYWAYS back to the topic. Yeah now that I looked at the one I thought was kool I'm having second thoughts about it. Not to mention everyone else hates it. Lol. I asked my friend if he would draw one for me and he told me to tell him what I want and maybe a few reference pictures and he'll see what he can do. Once that happens I shall post that bad boi up here and see what you guys think about it. ;)

What I'm looking for is one that looks like the wings are spread. And I don't want it to look like a Batarang either. I've seen a few that look kool but they look like a Batarang. I want it to look sinister but at the same time have that "I can't look away it's too kool" kinda effect to it. I'm actually editing the main post and adding this last part. ;)

Not trolling.

You're going to hate your tattoo in several years, especially the first time a woman criticizes you for getting it.

Love for comics aside, people get silly tats all the time. If it is something that means that much to then go for it. I got a small superman symbol on my upperarm at age 18.

Looking back, it was silly, and no I'm stuck with it. Hope you don't wind up the same.

No worries. I wasn't trying to be a troll or d***head. I was just trying to speak from experience, although I did not state it beforehand. Almost 10 years after I got the initial tattoo and all the questions like "Why did you get THAT?" or "What the hell were you thinking?" I became somewhaty shameful of it, even after having a portrait around it. I wasn't trying to imply your age or emotional level in a negative manner since I do not know you. I was merely expressing my own lament from a similar experience.

If this is what you really want, then by all means have at it, especially if whoever does the art and inking is skilled. But later, you may look in the mirror and regret it. That is one thing to keep in mind. I have had plenty of tattoo's since then, many of which hold a deeper meaning that I would like to attach things too (my kids footprints, family crest, wife's name on ring finger, etc).

For a small part, what seemed cool at the time isn't my current state of mind or what I currently attach value to. They say hindsight is always 20/20. I merely meant that down the road you may not feel the same about branding something on your body.

Cheers! and I didn't intend to snark at first.

Batman tramp-stamp? hahahaha

It's what nerd chicks get to tell you they're good to go.

The following is absolutely true, I swear on my life: I once went to a wedding where one of the female guests had a Batman tattoo. Now, this was a middle-aged woman, gave off kind of a cougar vibe, heavily made-up, not really fat but slightly on the heavier side. She wore a very low-cut dress, and she had the classic bat-in-yellow-oval logo tattooed directly above her cleavage. I'm not even kidding, it was like a beacon saying, "You like Batman? You like boobs? Well, lookee here!" I and the boyfriend of a friend could not stop staring at it... which I would feel bad about, except you got the bat-symbol tattooed over your boobs oh my God, so clearly you want people to look. I even went over near her and pretended to be doing something else so he could covertly snap a picture of it.

Most surreal thing I've ever seen at a wedding.

not that i would get a tattoo, but if i were to, it would go on my upper arm. i met a guy once who got the superman symbol tattooed in that spot. it was visible if he wanted it to be visible, but it wasn't anything that screamed out "look at me!". it would be almost like having a sleeve patch (kind of how MLB players usually have them on their jerseys). also don't get the yellow oval bat symbol. go straight black if you do decide on doing it. there was recently a thread that had the evolution of the batman over the years. i can't find it but i linked a video at the end of this post. that may give you more ideas of which symbol to use. my personal favorite from the movies is the one that has been using in the recent batman movies (BB and TDK). i think it's a bit more practical as a tattoo. in the cartoons, my favorite is the Batman Beyond symbol but that would look weird as a tattoo i think.

I have to agree. Don't ever get comics or video game tattoos. That's just as bad as getting a chick's name tattooed on you and breaking up. I got a tattoo when I was 17 (lived overseas) that I eventually covered up with something else because it looked better. I have a few that I wouldn't say I regret, because they all look pretty good, but I don't have any desire to further tat myself. Just a youthful thing, I guess. My main warning would be for any kid who gets a tat that clothes can't cover up because you don't know where you'll be professionally 10 years from now.

There are two main points to getting a tattoo:

1. Put it somewhere where you it can't be seen unless you take off your clothes.
2. Make sure that it is something personnal and that means something to you and has always has and probably will always mean something to you. So that way you won't have to worry about having anything to regret down the road.

I have six tattoo's all superhero related. Two of them are of Batman . One on my left side and one on my lower back. The Batman tattoo's have great meanings. Not only is he my favourite superhero, he is also representative of the kind of men I love and adore.

Another guideline to go by: Picture yourself at age 80. You're in a nursing home, your primary joy in life is trying to feel up the cute nurses. You need help bathing, feeding, toiletting....

...are you still going to feel as strongly about that Batman symbol on your back? Or any icon or symbol you're into right now? I loves me some Green Lantern and Legion of Superheroes, particularly, but I can't be sure I'll be so in love with them that I'll want a power battery or the Legion flag permanently attached to my body as a senior citizen.

Jared

One good thing about Batman is that he has proven longevity in pop culture. It's a safe bet that when you're 80, Batman will still be around. It won't be some weird thing you have to explain to the youngins while they roll their eyes at you, like will probably happen to anyone with Harry Potter ink.

If I were the kind of guy to get tattoos (which I'm not, probably thanks to the extreme hatred my dad had for them) I'd be tempted to get a Superman symbol on my chest, a Batman symbol on my back, and then GL and Flash symbols on opposite shoulders.

But if I ever do get one, I think it would be a small spider. I'll never get anything big, but I might someday get something small. It'd be a spider for Transmetropolitan as much as Spider-Man, though.

I did legally change my name to make it more jaw, though.

Just on the tattoo note. The Bat symbol is probably one of the safer things you could get. From people I know and work with, I have seen my fair share of stupid tattoos.

There was a guy on my basic training who got his girlfriend's name tattooed. Everyone knows how that one ends.

Another guy got his service number.

One guy I used to work with, got a big ass artillery crest on his arm, before he even did his Artillery course. He managed to get himself kicked out of the army before he ever got his arty course started. That's an impressive story to tell.

Probably the weirdest was one guy who got a picture of a naked girl surrounded by bullets and weapons tattooed on his arm. This lead to a bizzare conversation where people were debating whether it would be gay to wank to the tattoo on his arm. Weirdest conversation I never wanted to overhear.

So yeah, the bat symbol would be pretty safe compared to some of the stupider things I've seen or heard of. I heard one guy got the Zune logo tattooed. I can't imagine the thought process that would result in that.

Oh, I dunno. I think these things tend to go in cycles. As I was telling my wife the other day, I can imagine, in 30-40 years or so, the kids asking why all the old people have tattoos.

Exactly. Like I said, when the 18-25 year old today are in their 60's, it will seem like every old person has at least 1 tattoo. The kids of that generation? Not so sure, only time will tell.

That said, Lyle Tuttle (Tattoo Royalty in the eyes of most, and well-deserved IMO) made a good point ina documentary I was watching. He basically said that, eventually, kids will associate tattoos with their parents/teachers/authority figures. Because of that, they associate them with "The Establishment" and, as such, could conceivably rebel against said establishment and decide to leave their skin clean.

As it is, the latest "tattoo trend" that started about 4 years or so ago has pretty much run its course. The reality shows aren't all the rage at the moment, and business is getting back to normal finally. There are always going to be people that get tattooed for a multitude of reasons, regardless if it's the hip thing at the moment or not.

On a side note, I actually have a bat symbol tattoo booked for later today. It's the movie version with the kid's name written in the bat in the old Adam West-era bat-font. Small world

Lol. Then I apologize. In all seriousness I want to get it but at the same time I don't. Cause I know it's permanent and I'll probably regret it later on...Buuuuut I still like to think about it. IDK. xD
Thanks for the advice man and I'm sorry if I offended you too. Lol.
You sound unsure about getting it. If that's the case, DON'T.

Later you can change your mind and decide to get a tattoo when you're sure it's what you want, but it's much harder to change your mind after getting the tattoo.

Make sure it's absolutley something you really want, and not in that in that "I really want to go see that movie and get a hamburger later," way. This is not an impulsive buy.

There are two main points to getting a tattoo:

1. Put it somewhere where you it can't be seen unless you take off your clothes.

That way when you take off your clothes and somebody laughs at you you can make yourself feel better by imagining they're reacting to the tattoo!

How about this for a tattoo?? I created this yesterday

I think comic book tattoos are tacky but If you can get a tattoo to spin like that, by all means, go for it.

the golden rule for choosing a tattoo is pick what you want and wait a year, if you still want it a year later, chances are you should get it

I grew up watching the origanal tv series and that is the only bat symbol I relate to

da na na na na na na na Batman

That's great and your enthusiasm for the TV series is clear... and i really hate to say this, but that's not the Bat-symbol from the TV series on your arm. Not that it really matters – but a lot of us are quite fussy round here!

I was talking to a tattoo artist about getting the Superman "S" insigna on my arm. He said yellow fades noticably quicker than other colors and has to be redone about every 5 years if you want it to look right.

I have the Superman symbol on my arm and got it in red and black. This was right b4 the end of WW 3 b4 he changed it to red and black then Superboy used the red and black symbol so I was all good.
