View Full Version : What titles should Rare bring back?

Back in the 90's Rare were legends in gaming, pretty much every game they released on the N64 was gold. These days, they're ok, but they've lost they're edge. They've brought back two golden N64 titles on the 360, Perfect Dark and Banjo-Kazooie, and while I found them enjoyable, I feel they didn't measure up to the previous games.

I think Rare should take another shot and reinvigorating some of their old franchises on the 360 to try and recapture their former glory. I'm curious to see what titles you guys think they should bring back?

I'm keen to see a new Killer Instinct title. We haven't seen one since the early days of the N64. With large graphic improvements since then I think KI could do well.

I'd also love to see Jet Force Gemini return. That game was one of the most fun but also one of the longest, most challenging games I've played.

Id rather see new properties myself instead of just trying to rehash old ones.

Every so often a time period stops and a new one begins whether its movies, comics, games or music and trying to recapture that time period later on is damn near impossible. Nostalgia is very powerfull and not something you can just make all new again, developers change to. Thats what you see so many go back and try to make something new with something old and it never lives up to the nostalgia factor. Its like mortal kombat 2 is a awesome game but they cant do it again because its time has passed, yeah overall quality was great but the concept, simple yet fun controls and violence have no place in todays fighting games really.

Only one I think could be redone is killer instinct. It would be cool if they overhauled the game and kept it 2d and just released it on like the psn and xboxlive as a 10 dollar game like capcom did with street fighter 2 hd remix.

Just sometimes leaving things well enough alone is the best choice. Like myself Id rather a classic game I love never be remade than just a shitty sequel made 12 years later ruin it. And thats the problem because alot of studios try and re-do games because they think they can make just this awesome game (or just want to cash in on the license and pretend otherwise) and just ruin it because they cant. Course if more developers took their time and were really behind their products like say blizzard, kojima productions or valve then remaking products wouldnt be such a bad idea.

It's interesting that you should mention Mortal Kombat II as a game that can't be redone, when subsequent incarnations of Mortal Kombat - through 3, 4, all the way to 'Armageddon' have been rather successful, if I'm not mistaken (4 being a bit of a disappointment)-- and then you mention Killer Instinct as a game that Rare should release in a new version (2D no less), while I've always felt that Killer Instinct was Rare's rip off of Mortal Kombat, right down to the blood and killing finishers.

When I think of Rare, I immediately think of Battletoads... It's a shame that brawling games died out, and that they don't work in 3D.

Kameo. It didn't come out too ling ago, so there's a chance it won't catch flack from fans about rehashing old games, like Jet Force Gemini would.

I'd love to see a kick ass version of Killer Instinct. The combos in that game were crazy.

I loved the characters in Killer Insinct each one was a lot different to the last, unlike Mortal Kombat at the time. Plus I found I could pull off combos and specials a lot easier that the other fighters at the time.

Kameo was so underrated...I'd LOVE to see a sequel.

lol that would be great.

Killer Instinct would also be great, and I think it's being done. There's a lot of talk on that front.

The only edivence of a KI3 is the Banjo Christmas card and the music sheet of the game's title screen being "leaked". I wouldn't believe in a KI3 unless officially confirmed.

Killer Instinct or BattleToads.

Anything else, I wouldn't care.

If both of these would get announced then I'd seriously consider buying an Xbox 360.

I'm shocked that this has made two pages with no one jumping on the "Rare sucked" bandwagon that is currently popular.
I just ruined that though.
The new banjo game was great though, i'd go as far as to say it's probably, if not the best, one of the best things Rare has ever done, and improved upon the originals in every single way.

Rare was originally a UK based computer games company called Ultimate: Play the Game. They created titles predominantly for the ZX Spectrum and C64, but also for a few other platforms available at the time. They are credited with creating one of the first ever 3D games in Knightlore. However, to my mind, their finest hour came a few years earlier with the release of Atic Atac a game that still holds my interest to this day, 25 years later.

An update is looooooog overdue.
