Looks good to me. Interesting to see how a weapon designed to kill Kryptonians works. Must be similar to how Lex's guns worked in "Last Son".

Their weapons don't seem to have kryptonite though

Superman basically just got handed the "police chief" job within the military guild, I see Zod, even when he's plotting and keeping eyes out for Superman, has enough sense to know that Superman basically has TONS of job experience in the civilian protection career field. That's pretty awesome, actually.
I'm looking forward to this as well. Green Lantern involvement just makes it more juicy. I'd bet Sodam Yat won't be thrilled by those red sun ray guns.

Yes thats why they are the military, they are trained not to be retards in the use of lethal weapons.

Right, but still, a lot of this stuff (like Kryptonite and how to safely handle it), is uncharted territory for the average New Kryptonian soldier, so it makes sense that Zod would go with a weapon that's a little simpler and less risky to use.
What's interesting is that these weapons have nothing to do with protecting New Krypton from outside threats; they're specifically designed to kill other Kryptonians and prevent any kind of insurrection or organized challenge to Zod's rule.

This is also assuming that they even have access to Kryptonite.

That looks really good. I like the Guardians taking notice of what a problem this could end up being.
This series is showing so much promise.

Cannot wait to read this in it's entirety.
I really love the direction the Superman books have taken under Geoff Johns and James Robinson's direction. I haven't enjoyed the books so consistently since the mid-90's during the old triangle number days when Jurgens was writing Superman and Roger Stern was on Action.

The book definitely has an interesting concept going for it. I worry that one book even a year long, isn't enough to really explore the concept. I kinda half way wish that this story was in both Superman and Action Comics so we could get more mileage out of it.

I enjoyed it. Nothing spectaculer, but a good read. It's next issue that's really going to put Clark to the test, though. Should be interesting to see how he handles that situation.

I'm digging that amid all the tension, Superman is still teaching the other Kryptonians lessons, even if they're not all that willing to learn them. Even Zod, to an extent.
More Guild System details, more good artwork, Supergirl's back for the artist consortium it seems, and classic Kryptonian creatures. Cool, cool, cool.
That's 2 out of 12 in the can ... if the quality level is maintained as the plot escalates to wherever it is that it's supposed to ultimately go, this'll has the potential to be the best Superman story in years.

Only the 2nd issue in, and this story of Superman seems to get better and better. Watching Commander EL take control of his guild and do things HIS way is something that makes you smile as a Superman fan. Even though there is TONS of pressure on his shoulders, as always, he handles every situation lightly and takes care of business the right way. Even Zod was impressed the way Kal took everything under his wing. The next issue, we all can tell, is going to be full of suspense and worry. Kal has been here before, but with Zod controlling the situation, we'll see how good Superman really is, esp in front of Zod and that moron Gor.. this is just the beginning.
Love being a Superman fan.. it for sure is a great and fun time to be one.

Just checked it out on Midtown and you're right!
Damn, this thing goes for another 3 months? Hmm, I'm actually suspecting it might have just been a printing/typing error, considering where the 2 and 5 are on the numbers keypad.

Definitely liked this issue, WoNK has been an enjoyable series, and the artist drawing it is pretty good. I like how Superman seems to take things under his wing, and I love the reunion between superman and supergirl, I just wish that lasted a little longer.
It was also great to see different type of kryptonians. It's interesting to see kryptonians that look different like here on earth. The only thing I can hope for is that they all don't just get sent to like the negative zone or blow up, because I have a sad feeling that's going to happen.

Heck, I'm not even that much of a fan, and I STILL smiled. This is damn fine writing mixed with some nice art to produce a comic that is making me appreciate Superman a lot more than I did. Even in a crowd of Kryptonians, we get to see what makes Kal El stand out.
I'm enjoying things immensely

Now I'm a bit tempted to buy these issues of New Krypton after having gotten the build up to it within the Superman books. Plus this is a Superman book that has, you know, Superman in it but I think I'll wait to see how it ends up and what people thought of it.
Then I'll check it out in a HC collection or however they release it.

Think of him more as a cop. For the foreseeable future, it seems like Zod's forces will be dealing with mostly domestic disturbances.

Agreed. While they all wear the guild uniform ... Superman is more like the commander of a subdivision, and is for all intents and purposes the Chief of Police in Kandor. He still falls under Zod's overall command, but he's running his own branch.
Apart from agreeing with Zod's logic in giving Superman that job - after all, Superman's basically been doing it for 15+ years - I have to wonder what that says about Zod himself. He sees Superman as a bit of a thorn in his side and is very obviously "keeping his enemies closer than his friends" (Superman is doing the same exact thing).
But giving Superman command over the domestic police branch is basically telling us about Zod that he respects Superman to some extent. I mean, he could just as easily have put Superman in role as dispatcher, just calling people over radios and keeping him out of the action, where no doubt Superman would chafe and their confrontation would come a lot sooner, because Superman would keep disobeying orders to go help out.
Instead, Zod actually gives him a job where he can show the Kandorians a thing or two, teach them some good lessons, get things done domestically, have the rank to question Zod from time-to-time ...
Now that I think of it ... Zod's a genius. Because by giving Superman a busy job with a lot of responsibility, it's going to cut down on Superman's time to pry into things like Ursa's Black Zero operation, the Phantom Zone mystery, and so forth ... and also might slowly teach Superman a lesson or two about Zod's motivation as well ... better to keep them busy and curious and to win them over slow than to have them bored, curious, and blatantly against you. It's an efficient move every way you look at it.
It's also pretty funny that Zod and Superman are ultimately using the same strategy against each other.

^^Insightful post, mate.
Yeah, I'm really digging this arc so far. Love the sound of 'Commander El'... so cool. Love Superman's look, his new suit, and his characterization is strong. There is a lot of characterization in this book, and I like that. Characters > action.
Also, according to Pete Woods himself, this story arc will be expanded to 15 issues! Cool, cuz I'm so enjoying the ride. The art in this book is just great. Hope things will only get better and better.

I bet this is cope with the crossover issues and being able to tell one's own story without comprimsing anything due to any crossovers.

Didio says here that it's only 12 issues (http://www.newsarama.com/comics/040929-DiDio20.html). The other 3 issues are part of a followup ....
Captain Jim

Well, plans change. Evidently it was going to be 15 issues, but they decided to keep it to 12, and then follow it up with another mini (3 issues, most likely).

DiDio's last interview seems to indicate that yes, it was a misprint, but Pete Woods' confusion stems from the fact that S:WoNK is getting a follow-up, maybe mini-series. Some sort of continuation.

See, I don't understand why you have to say Woods was confused. More likely, they simply changed their minds. (Sometimes you have to take Didio's words with a grain of salt.)

Everyone who knows me would agree that confused (or bewildered, or spaced, or mildly demented) would be a fitting description of me. In this case however I think we're mostly talking semantics. It will all be cleared up in the future and may even make sense. Probably before we reach issue 12... or is it 15?
