What about it CBM? Can you check with the Man to see if it's genuine article. The wash and banner look a little off, but everything else looks good.

I think you are right Jakob. And it is not only the inking.
It surprises me how often this happens. I have not been member of this forum that long but i think this is the third that pops up during that short time.

Man, this one is tough. I hate to say it, but my gut is saying it's real. I kind of hope I'm wrong, but Christine is the only one that can answer for sure.

Maybe I'm just wierd but does anybody else think the phrase "fishy looking lobster johnson on ebay" taken out of context and with no explanation is riotously funny?

Good point, but maybe "Crusty (crustacean) looking Lobster Johnson on ebay" would have been better

Here's the piece that was traced to create this abomination:

We hardcore fans have GOT to trust our eyes. Just look at all the similarities and gasp at the horribleness of the copy.
I'm sure with a little detective work, one can find the source of those skulls as well.

Though the skulls everywhere and banner/tentacle/whatever it is look way to thrown on there to look real.
The wash is terrible. It looks like a water spill.

In my defense, I was a little drunk.

Is there some way to report to ebay that it's fake? It would suck if somebody who didn't know got ripped off.

You could contact the seller and maybe they don't know it's a fake and they'll be a 'good guy' and remove the auction. Or try contacting ebay, forward this thread and see what happens.

I reported it to ebay. I totally respect that people may not want to get involved but maybe if multiple people sent in a report ebay would check it out for sure. If it's just me, they might just pass it over. Just a thought. The auction is up to a pretty high price and I hated the idea of somebody blowing that much money on something that turns out to be a fake.

GRRR, what utter muck .
French eBayers keep offering fake-smelling & fake-spelling stuff as well, such as this:
http://cgi.ebay.nl/SUPERBE-DESSIN-DE-MIGNOLA-HELLBOY_W0QQitemZ130297713550QQcmdZViewItemQQptZFR _JG_Livres_Bd_BD?hash=item130297713550&_trksid=p3286.m63.l1177
I posted earlier on these, but since CBM did not respond I sort of started fearing CBM might be put off by all this scammy busyness.
But yeah, like Ontarah said, it's just to warn off people from fakes, or ask advice against what seems to smell fishy .

Good grief. I've only ever bought one thing on ebay (usually I buy off Amazon) and I'm suddenly very glad that I haven't. I mean I knew there was a lot of crap for sale there, and I suppose I realized the amount of fake stuff too. I just never really thought about it.
Just because I don't report to all of you doesn't mean that I am not doing anything...to stay on top of this stuff is a full time job which I already have...I appreciate you all pointing this stuff out and yes I do usually take care of it but you have to give me a break...

You can try reporting it to ebay, but usually nothing happens. Of all the dozen or so auctions I've reported, I don't think a single one has ever been ended.
In most case I say the people bidding on these are just as bad as the sellers. They're most likely only interested in the Mignola name & the investment they're making. If you're going to throw a couple of hundred dollars down on a piece of art, you might want to make sure what you're getting is legit. A fool and his money...

But of course CBM: I allow you all the breaks you need and then some.
I simply felt like letting you know how I wish not to be harassing you when asking about an alledged fake. Cuz such feels like I'm harassing you a bit.
I hope you understand me . (As such has been noted as being not always easy as pie.)
If there's no problem then there's no problem.

Which is why i only buy or receive art directly from the artist..that way YOU know it's real...even artist reps sometimes are a little fishy.

Bidding was ended by the seller prematurely. Perhaps he/she got a gander at this thread and decided to do the right thing?

I sent the seller a link to this forum - he replied to my message by saying that he's going back to the people who sold him the piece originally and asking them to explain themselves!
The seller also wrote me and apologized.

Like I had hoped, the Seller wasn't a schmuck, he got duped, but he's a stand-up guy.
Cheers

yea maybe he is a stand up guy ..... or maybe he is just covering his ass and looking out for himself
its very easy to say oops my mistake im so angry i will go back to the guy who sold it to me - but thats just words ... you never really know if he was the guy that made the fake himself or if he knew it was fake from the start and thought he could get away with it
