i remember being younger and seeing kitchen sink trades? i think?
anyways, i am looking for reprints in trade form of the old spirit golden age stuff...most of what i can find seems to be newspaper strips, i want the comic material...
anyone help?
I don't think KS put out any trades of The Spirit--A couple of hardcovers.
They did put it out in B&W magazine (continuing the Warren numbering) and comics. You can sometimes find them cheap. The chronology jumps around, but there's plenty of editorial extras.
(BTW, I'm assuming by "newspaper strips" you mean the daily. The Eisner stoies were also in the newspaper--I don't think he ever did any Spirit stories for comic books)
You're best bet is to spend the cash and buy both the Warren and Kitchen Sink reprint magazines from the late 70's, early 80's.
Superior reproduction, and in the end a complete run, and the nice thing is that the issues are easily availble and more or less still sell for close to cover price.
They are so much better looking then the later Kitchen Sink comic sized reprints, let alone the atrocious looking DC Archive editions.

thanks...checking out ebay right now and finding some of the warren stuff...
also bidding on an early original from the chicago sun times, which if i get, should be neat...
also, apparently, quality comics in the 40's did a spirit book...guessing it's one tale of him and then an anthology of sorts with other characters inside...
are these reprints of the news strips? or are these new material?

I think the Quality comic book is reprints of the Sunday newspaper strips.
I think the Quality comic book is reprints of the Sunday newspaper strips.
They are, but on the other hand, the back -up strip in Police Comics was Plastic Man so even as reprints, it is a pretty worthwhile book to get.

I actually like the Warren issues more than the Kitchen Sink ones.
The Warren run was printed on metal plates, has extensive, and I might add beautiful color sections, and is just a clean, good looking book.
The later Kitchen Sink editions are still swell, don't get me wrong, but they do suffer from being printed on modern plastic plates, and just are not as crisp as the Warren editions.
Still, good luck on the auctions, you really are in for a treat.
