Think it's a jab at supposedly what marvel said to JMS concerning OMD?

There's also the fact Shadowhawk has a backstory more convoluted then Hawkman's...

True but is it more convoluted than the setup for OMD/BND?

I think the "It's Magic, we don't have to explain it" statement- whether it was said or not- has become pretty infamous in comics.
I think it has taken on a life of its own. Just like how the statement "Being Fingered" is a statement expressing a creator not getting due recognition for their work, the "It's Magic" statement can be used to describe the rational for any sort of bad retcon or revamp.

Really though, the magic bit was around before OMD. Remember the Simpsons line: "A wizard did it." everytime something could'nt be explained to appease fanboys on Xena?
The OMD reference is just the newest incarnation.

Actually, I think the "wizard did it" line originated from Monty Python.
But still, the line kinda sums up the attitude that the creative party thinks very little of the intelligence of their customers that they will simply buy whatever they say because they said so.
Joe Q might not have said it, but its become attributed to him and to the current direction of the Spidey books.

Yeah, I figured it came from either that or something else. I didnt know precisely, so I went with a recent pop culture line that was before OMD.

Yes, but as JoeQ apparently never actually said it, what's the point?

Al Gore never said he created the internet. He merely claimed that he was one of the earliest supporters of it. However, people picked up on that talking point and used it against him. Joe Q may not have said it (or he may be covering, since it has turned around to bite him in the @$$) but the statement has been able to sum up the underlying problem with the new direction in a pretty succinct manner.

OK, good, so you're fine with creating lies and attributing them to people because you think it fits better than reality. Remind me of that when someone starts the rumor where you said it was OK to touch kids in a naughty place.

No, I'm saying that's life. It sucks, I know. But that's the hazard of letting the other side set the tone for the discussion.
Remember, Marvel embraced the whole "It's Magic" line. Remember MJ's line in to Bobby Carr in the Paparazzi arc? They had no trouble with it, until it became clear that that explanation wasn't exactly flying with their critics. Then all of a sudden, such a statement "never happened."

So the "It`s magic" expression in a comic book have to be always related to OMD?!
So by this line of thought next time a Magic hero/villian/character apears in a story we are going to have another thread like this one.
One could say that the expression is there because thats what the writter just wanted to put in the story.

Given the number of posts sure that Bendis hates OMD because of what happened this month in New Avengers?
It's a world where the Stephen Colbert character was real. It's not the Truth, it's Truthiness.

In this case, it was just the opposite. People siding with Bendis because they were sure he was against OMD.

Yeah, I'm going to have to say that I don't think what Bendis did in the Avengers is in anyway indicative of his feelings on OMD. For all we know, its something that was planned long in advance. I don't think that I've heard anything regarding Bendis' opinion about OMD or BND or anything about the new direction in particular.

Plus, it could have been Slott being ironic. It demonstrated his awareness about the concerns of the readers (an indication an explanation may be forthcoming.)

Similar to "yellow fear monster," although I suspect that one won't be as popular in the future, as Green Lantern: Rebirth was better received than OMD.
