Since I haven't seen a thread for this game yet, I decided to make one.
For those who don't know, this game is the newest game released by the reformed Clover company until the new name, Platinum Games. It's pretty much a mix of Deathrace 2000 and Godhand with the seriousness cranked down to a negative 11.
Anywho, I wanted to see what others thought of it.

Got this yesterday and have put some time in it. I enjoy it. I'll give a short review.
I think this is the type of games some of us have been hoping for. This is a game I can find myself playing and replaying which I haven't said about a Nintendo game in years. I've felt Nintendo had always suffered from the lack of graphics. Mario Galaxy looked great and all but other games have just suffered. Examples would be Madden and NHL 2k8 (both games looked like Xbox about five years ago if not more in the case of 2k8). This game took what it has to work with and did a great job. They tell it a lot like a comic with storyboards and what not. Kind of a knock off of Sin City look to be honest. It is well done though.
I've also felt like games have lacked in being interactive with the Wii mote and nunchuck. This game, however, is constantly keeping me active. The boss battles especially. I have enjoyed they way they incorporated everything.
The controls aren't bad. I'm not entirely comfortable with them yet and I'm about 2 hours in. I'm suspecting that little bit of discomfort is the game now though. The lock on doesn't seem to work and it screws up the camera and have found that is usually the only reason I die.
My big issue with this game is the gore. I knew it going into it and so I can't say I'm surprised. It just feels like Nintendo had to go over the top to make a game for adults. It's like rather than make something unique and creative they just wanted to make something super violent to offer to the older crowd. It seems like lazyness to some extent to me. I hope that makes sense.
Oh and the story is starting to get interesting. I want to know what is going on so to some extend it is compeling.

My only question is: is there anything beyond just running around and killing people? Because while the game looks neat, it also looks like I'd lose interest after an hour.

Yes that is the purpose of the game. However, there is more to it than that. You gain points based on how you kill people so the more creative you are the more points you gain. There is also little bonus stages within a level that are often intriguing. The story also seems to be getting a little interesting. There isn't much more than killing people but there is more to it then simply shooting them; especially since you don't even have a gun.
Oh and the use of the Wii remote makes it interesting in my book.

I have to say, I found MadWorld (http://www.theleisurelab.co.uk/en/Games/MadWorld-Review/) a little underwhelming. Don't get me wrong, it's a good game, but it doesn't have that addictive, time-stealing factor that a game needs to lift it above the average. You'll love it while you're playing it, but it's not one of those games where you'll lie awake plotting your next session.
That said, it is the sinle best looking game I've seen on the Wii, and the juvenile sense of humour in both the action and commentary will raise a chuckle, although they both lose a bit of their sparkle over time. The difficulty eventually ramps up slightly to much for the comparatively simplistic controls to handle, but you'll catch up with that if you persevere, and there are a lot of kill types to discover, although I'd have prefered depth across the board, rather than variations on a theme.
There's a full MadWorld Review (http://www.theleisurelab.co.uk/en/Games/MadWorld-Review/) on my site, with some of my game footage as well.

I thought the game got really old, really quickly.
It's very, very repetitive. It emphasizes killing creatively, yes, and that is fun for a while, but after the first level the game doesn't give you anything new to work with. It's the same slam a tire on someone, spike them with as many street signs as you can, impale them multiple times on something. Accompanying this is a really, really awful camera that you can't manipulate in anyway and has a hard time staying behind your character.
The story is interesting near the middle, and was actually the reason I continued playing the game. Sadly, the end was a huge let down.
I'm glad I rented it.

I'm dissapointed to hear it doesn't have replay value. A lot of the reviews as well as people I talked to seemed to say it did have a strong replay value. I guess I will find out.

Madworld is a bit like Clover's game before it, God Hand. It really depends on the person who plays it. Even though I've beaten it almost a month ago, I still, from-time-to-time, play a level or two just for fun.

I liked the visual style and the announcers etc. but the actual gameplay looked just like another boring skill-less button masher to me.

So turns out I got way bored with this game. Just didn't do it for me. Seemed great at first but then nothing changed. Got incredibly repetitive and didn't supply with a drive to complete it. I likely will but considering I haven't turned it on in well over a week and half probably won't be fast.

It's a shame this game didn't sell higher numbers. The Wii totally needs hard-core games like this. People have been whining about there being no hard-core games for the Wii and once they get it, no one is there to support it. Hope you guys enjoy Wii Sports Resort or Wii Fit 2.

A lot of other popular "hardcore" games are crap, too.

Which is precisely what I was afraid of when I first saw the gameplay. Fun for about 5 minutes, but nothing to sustain it.

Thats too bad but I still want to try it. Im just pumped that hardcore games are coming to the Wii now. This looks like an awesome premise and a really unique game
