I really hope that cover image is just a placeholder.
I'm not raggin' on Kevin Nowlan's art, but any of the other covers in the series would be better than the one they're using. And a Mignola cover would be even better.

I don't know who Kevin Nowlan is, but I really dislike his artwork on B.P.R.D. covers. His anatomy is off, his lines look like mechanical tracing and his cross-hatching is just lifeless.
Now I probably should say 'sorry', but I'm not.

woh! you guys are harsh ... i thought i was a negative person ... anyways at first i didnt like kevins covers ... but then i started to warm to them ... and now i have no problem with them for this series
that being said i would still rather have mike do the covers
anyways the only problem i have with the collected BPRD #11 cover is not that kevin did the art but that as it currently is the cover is not new! It is identical to the issue #1 cover art ... normally for the collected editions we get a new cover that takes elements and portions of the various previous covers of the series and mixes them together

I actually don't mind this Nowlan guy's art. I pay very little attention to the covers to be perfectly honest unless they just really leap up at me, and usually they do not. I don't pay particular attention even when Mignola draws them half the time. The only cover that has really arrested me in the last long while was the cover of Wild Hunt #1 though I actually do kind of like Black Goddess #1 and that yeti on issue 3 and the dragon on issue 4 are kind of nice too. I guess a better way of saying things is that I like stylized poses on covers rather than convoluted mid action shots. Hellboy up to his armpits in attacking zombies or faeries usually just looks confusing to me. With no context as to what the fight is about, I just don't care that much even if it is cool looking.

Kevin Nowlan is a god in the industry, you guys, and I'd appreciate if you'd check out his c.v. on the net before you jam your feet in your mouths even further.
If you are at all interested in why this fellow is so highly regarded, do yourself a favor and seek out the Jack B. Quick stories he did (with Alan frigging Moore) in Tomorrow Stories. Or read one of his numerous runs on Batman, Superman, Aliens, or Dr. Strange. Or go watch Batman: The Animated Series; he designed the Mad Hatter. Or take a look at Ryan Sook, Eduardo Risso, Yanick Paquette, Doug Mahnke, or Adam Hughes; Nowlan influences them all.
I haven't been a big fan of his BPRD work either, but Nowlan has had a brilliant career and he's hugely talented.

Kevin's art is GREAT. I think it's realistic and the shading is really nice.
Well that's my opinion.

I never meant to slight Nowlan's art, you guys. I really dug the way he inked Mike's covers for the Warning, and the other covers for BG have been great. I just wasn't too much of a fan of the "sheepish BPRD" cover for BG #1.
