I couldn't find a Firebreather thread to post in, so I made one. According to Image's site, the second trade will be out on April 8th. Good news! If you haven't already, give this book a shot, it has a great story and very human characters.

Firebreather is excellent, in my opinion. For the folks that dug Blue Beetle and praised it as being the new Spider-Man...well, those people have obviously never read Firebreather. I wish Hester and Kuhn had more time to work on it, though. It seems like forever between issues.

I haven't read any of the Firebreather issues, but I caught his guest appearance over in "Johnny Monster". It was a fun little team up, but not mind-blowing. I did just read an issue of Phil Hester's "Golly!" though, and I think that book is a whole lot of fun; a great read for sure. Can I rely on Hester's "Golly!" cred enough to get me to pick up Firebreather? Does Hester write some humor into Firebreather?

It's a different kind of humor, but it's definitely there.

Anyone know when the next issue is due?

I can't comment on Golly because I haven't read the first trade, but Firebreather does have good humor in it.

Thanks for starting the thread, Predator. I want people to be able to speak their minds about the book without worrying about my delicate feelings, so I won't hover.

Golly and Firebreather are light years apart in terms of content. I think FB is safe to show to anyone over eleven or twelve, and Golly should only be read by the incarcerated. I'm proud of both, though!

As for frequency... Bottom line is we do these books for free. They make enough to pay Image's costs in printing and advertising and not much else. I can't break my artists' balls when they are working for the love of the project alone. In a perfect world we'd sell 50,000 copies and they could quit all their other gigs and the books would be biweekly. Sorry we can't crank them out faster and thanks for being patient.

That's sad to hear Phil. A book like Firebreather should be selling more copies. Do you guys make any money on the trades?

Also, the first trade was solicited for June in this week's Image solicits.

There's no need to apologize, it's just the nature of the beast. Congrats on the Cartoon Network news, though. That's some cool stuff.

Oh, it's not all doom and gloom. The books do make a little money, but certainly not enough for Andy & Bill or Brook & Bruce to earn a steady paycheck. The trades do bring in a bit more and the movie options help keep everyone afloat. We're not going anywhere!

Don't believe him boys and girls - it is bleak. Rumor is Phil is only eating every third day and has cut his alcohol intake back to only a 5th every OTHER day. Please go out and buy two or three issues of EVERY book his is associated with. FireBreather, Golly!, The Darkness, and Masquerade --- run now! The man is not doing well

Actually, I don't drink at all, but anyone who knows me even a little bit knows that the idea of me eating every three days is science fiction.

you bastard, you killed Belloc :evilangry:

but I do admit I liked the set up for tha major overarching plot, so I'll keep up with the series

Just a reminder that the second TPB came out yesterday. I bought my copy and read it last night. Damn if it wasn't good! This volume focuses mainly on the relationship with Duncan and his dad. Despite how disfunctional it is, you get the sense that maybe Belloc cares for Duncan a bit more than he lets on. It isn't done in a sappy way and the book handles it very well. This volume not only sets up a lot of future plots (the most interesting I imagine will be Homlgang) but also goes into the mythology of Belloc as well, which is actually interesting. I hope we get a bit more of this in future issues.

Overall, this volume only solidified my opinion that this is a great book. The art, story, and characterization blend together very well. I strongly recommend giving this book a shot if you haven't already.

And remember, the reprint of the first trade will be out this summer.

Actually it was the first trade of the second volume of Firebreather... but you are dead on this book is amazingly good.

I picked up #4 last week.

Great comic, I immediately took a subscription. Any word on when the next one will be out?

Bad news...

In a post on the Image site Phil Hester has said Firebreather is dead as an ongoing series.

Good news: Firebreather should return as minis, and there is a animated movie coming out.

Details here: Image Forum (http://www.imagecomics.com/messageboard/viewtopic.php?t=46782&highlight=firebreather)

This is a tad annoying!! Firebreather is one of the most fun books out there at the mo- where am I going to get my big fun monster fix now heh?

We're still working on the book, it's just wrong to keep dragging it out as a monthly. Andy can't do a monthly- bottom line. My hope is for 6-8 issues next year.

As for giant monsters, come see The Anchor!

Just thought I'd pass this along. I talked to Phil Hester at Fallcon this past weekend. Among getting some trades signed, he mentioned hopefully getting more Firebreather out in time for the animated series next year (which voicework has been recorded for).

Personally, I think it would benefit Firebreather to go the "Hellboy route", with a series of mini's. Make each mini an event, and we all know how much fanboys looooove a new #1!

According to Hester on his Image Comics forum he did say that FireBreather would be going the Hellboy route of a series of miniseries. I am fine with that, I just want more Duncan. I actually wouldn't mind if we got more over sized stories like FireBreather: The Iron Saint as well.

True! Minis every year, sometimes two a year. We hired a real editor and everything. He's busting our chops as we speak!

If you were looking to hire somebody to bust your chops.... well let's just say I work cheap and would have enjoyed that part of the job

Also, what BrikHed said.

Even better, I'm a real editor (albeit of newspapers &, more recently, a website, though my actual training is in editing books ... not *sigh* comics) & everything!

Ongoing series, mini series, I'm fine either way. Hopefully we see some mini series in the near future and on a semi-regular basis.

And this is the first I've heard of the animated movie. Thats awesome!
