We called it all the way back in August. Now, hot on the heels of his feature film debut (whatever you may think of it), Max Payne will be getting back to more familiar territory. And he'll be "darker" and "edgier" as well, if that's even possible.

"We're starting a new chapter of Max's life with this game," said Rockstar founder Sam Houser. "This is Max as we've never seen him before, a few years older, more world-weary and cynical than ever. We experience the downward spiral of his life after the events of Max Payne 2 and witness his last chance for salvation."

Those world-weary detectives can't ever seem to catch a break. Look forward to this one on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC this winter.

How do you get 'darker and edgier' with Max frickin' Payne?


In the first game he used to walk on paths of blood, while hearing the cries of his dead baby, and listening to his wife pleading to live.

The man lives and breathes more darkness and philosophical stuff while eating a Big Mac than most of the main characters in video games do in a month.



Still...it's Max Payne. Of course I'll look into it.

I assume that means Remedy aren't working on this, considering Alan Wake is only three years or so behind schedule.

We'll see if this is any good. I'm not about to start salivating just because it's Max Payne. The stuff about somehow making him darker and edgier has me wondering.

The game is being developed by Rockstar Vancouver. They developed Bully. Can't wait to see what they do with Max Payne

I don't want to spoil too much of the series but they were two endings for his love intrest in part two. I think we can now guess that the darker ending is the offical one.

The first one was pretty good game but I thought part 2 was a much much better game overall, so here is to hoping this one is just as good.

I really like the hardboiled cop / film noir type storyline they always have and the fact that things dont end happy for max. It makes him more interesting that at the end of the games he doesnt kill the badguys, gets the girl and lives happily ever after. I like that its not a cliche game and such.

I really hope they keep the great music style in the game part 2 had and his voiceovers are kept about the same.

Good to see that aweful movie was good for something anyway, although I have rather dubious faith in what Rockstar considers dark and edgie these days. Oh well, it's Max Payne, so it'll probably be good. And if it isn't I'll at least have something new to bitch about on the 3DRealms forum.

Why would they ever make Max Payne without Remedy,the original creators.......

Max Payne isnt a normal action game. It needs a great level of writing. Heck i know famous sf writer who mentioned it in his blog how he played it just because of the story in the first game.

I have waited for this news for years but now im worried this new creators will ruin one of the best game series i have played.


By the Max Payne 1 is far better than Max Payne 2 to me. Much hardcore, better story.

I like it. Max himself looks badass and the setting looks interesting. NY's only has so many alleys and warehouses for Max to run through, so I'm cool with the change. So far everything about the game looks good.

I'm looking forward to this game. The choices Rockstar made are very interesting and I hope they pay off. I'm kinda sad that Max original voice actor isn't returning but hopefully the new guy will do an awesome job.

Is it just me or does Max look like a muscular Sid Haig?:tongue:

I saw the movie max payne but don't feel interest to pay this games. though i am a game freak not movie but i haven't played it because i really did not like the story of the movie it was just a fantasy and funny movie i ever seen.

If you're a gamer, you should know better by now than to judge a game by a movie based on it.

The movie is terrible and nothing like the games.

On Direct2Drive or Steam you can get both games together for $15 and as they're both a few years old your PC should be able to handle them no prob.

Really, you should consider checking them out.

By the way, Queue, I haven't seen the movie, but I know it has nothing to do with the game. I don't remember seeing flying demons except on Constatine.

I'll ask my friend to rent it and see for myself how horrible it is. But I know it has nothing to do with the game. Unless in part 2 they added demons that I don't know about.

There are no demons in the movie. Well, more or less. It's all drug induced hallucinations.

Alan Wake must be the greatest game of all time to be worth the dissapointent of Rockstar ruining one of my alltime favorite game series.

I have enjoyed the story,action gameplay,the style Max Payne for many years.
