CHALLENGE 3: SONGBIRDS

This is Project CBRunway. You're either in or you're out. Who will be CBR’s next big comic character designer?

Good morning, designers. Welcome back to the runway.

Sometimes a designer must adapt a real person into a comic character..

For your next challenge you must design a superhero identity for a female musician based on the title of one of her singles.

HOWEVER, a songstress may only be chosen once. Each singer has been randomly assigned a number between (1) and (22). Designers will choose their singer by posting their pick of a number between (1) and (22), upon which the singer they've picked will be posted and added to the list below. Numbers may be picked only once, on a first come, first served basis.

You will be judged on originality and creativity, and how well your character represents the artist and song title you choose. Your outfit may consist of natural or synthetic materials.

In addition to the required written description explaining material, functionality and design inspiration, you should include a short description of how and why your character represents the song title you pick.

Submission Requirements

Artwork may be done in any medium but must be in color.
Artwork may be no larger than 550-pixels wide and 800-pixels long.
Entries must be inserted into your PM, using such services as Photobucket.com or imageShack.com. If you are unable to use such a service you may e-mail (mattbib@comcast.net) your entry and we will host the image for you for the duration of the competition.
All submissions should include a written description of the costume, explaining, to the best of your ability, material, functionality, design inspiration, etc. Some rounds may have additional written requirements.
Write-ups are to be no longer than a single PM, which is limited to 5,000 characters, including your image address and all formatting and image tags.You have only five days, through Midnight PDT of Monday, March 23, to Private Message (http://forums.comicbookresources.com/private.php?do=newpm&u=342) (PM) me your entries for this week’s Challenge. Be sure to select “Request a read receipt for this message” in the Additional Options section before sending. Failure to complete a challenge will result in immediate elimination from Project CBRunway. There will be no extensions or exceptions.

Post any questions, comments, or concerns about this challenge in this thread. The voting thread will be posted this coming Tuesday.

Debbie Gibson rocks!

Madonna is like a poison chalice... half the outfits she's worn on stage and in videoclips would make for interesting superhero outfits. So those costumes are out already, because it wouldn't be original to use them. (there goes the bondage theme from the nineties and that weird poke-your-eyes-out bra)

Not only that, but I've got to pick one of seventy different types of Madonna, and no matter which one I pick, it's going to be the wrong one...

Re: Madonna. I used to be a MAJOR fan of hers, and I still have great affection for her, but maybe getting older has deminished my mania. Also, she's been kinda hard to support with some of her weirdness. I was in the Paramount Theater in Seattle, in the 10th row, when she had her virgin concert tour performance in 1985.

Madonna is like a poison chalice... half the outfits she's worn on stage and in videoclips would make for interesting superhero outfits. So those costumes are out already, because it wouldn't be original to use them. (there goes the bondage theme from the nineties and that weird poke-your-eyes-out bra)

Cher is also a poison chalice of sorts.. .but she seems to have retained more dignity than Madonna somehow. Madonna is just plain creepy. It's like the Jackson-effect skipped a decade for her, and is now hitting her with everything its got. From toyboy Jesus, to adopting a village full of Malawi kids, and to top it all off... those creepy arms.

Cher is Drag-queen fabulous, she's been that way since 1996, that's pretty safe and fun, and she has the best plastic surgeon in the world.

Unfortunately due to what I suspect is a computer virus, I am unable to complete my design for challenge 3, and therefore will have to forfeit the competition. My laptop is in critical condition and needs immediate surgery!!!! LOL

But seriously, I can't compete anymore. My laptop won't even start up! I am upset about this because I feel my design for this challenge was phenomenal, and I something I was really proud of. However if my laptop recovers I still will post the design on another thread. Good luck to the rest of the competitors and above all HAVE FUN!

Aw, no Shade! That is really too bad. I was looking forward to whatever you came up with. The same thing almost happened to me. My computer was running very crazy but after some troubleshooting I determined that the cause was that my cat fell asleep on my keyboard again. She added about 157,654 calendars to my sidebar and my processor was totally overwhelmed by this. You don't have a cat do you?

Thank you for the kind words Spaghetti. The competition this season was much stronger than the last, and it really made me put a lot more effort into my designs, and think outside the box. But my Queen Latifah design was to DIE FOR! Just think of it as Queen Latifah as a Samurai Warrior/sorceress/hip hop superstar! It was beautiful!

I am too, but I just can't meet all the demands of a dog right now.

It's really hard to get angry at it though. I know I am supposed to punish her or yell at her or something but just can't bring myself to because in this instance it is just far too cute. I will be keeping my laptop closed when I'm not using it from now on.
