Geez, writers are getting driven away from this title at an alarming rate. I suspect it has a lot to do with Didio taking a heavy hand in "editing" the book, which has got to be so frustrating for the writers that they finally decide that it's not worth the trouble.

I'm curious about why he decided to leave, assuming it was his decision (which he says it was, but we can't be too sure).

I don't find this shocking given the sheer amount of people who hated his take on TT.

Myself, while I don't read it I know people who know Sean _very_ well. I guess he said to them he intentionally did shocking things just to get some exposure for himself and the series. Kind of sad, if he focused more on simply making it a good book I think it would have been better received. The numbers on the book really have taken a hit in the past year, and I'm sure the new blood will be welcome.

McKeever had almost a 2-year-run on the book. The only writer who wasn't long for the series was Beechen. And thank god!

Who was it that said Dan DiDio was the issue?

http://www.newsarama.com/comics/030919-Titans-McKeever.html

When contacted by Newsarama about his reasons for leaving Teen Titans, McKeever said, “I did have future plans for Teen Titans but I just found myself needing to step away. I guess I'd have to chalk this one up to the vague and oft-used ‘creative differences.’ It happens.

“I do still have a working relationship with Dan and DC, as evidenced by my coming onboard as writer of the Ravager serial. I'm also currently talking to Dan about a couple cool and exciting possibilities for the future.”

I find myself agreeing with Shrike a lot lately.....

You can count me among those who hated his run. I kept hoping the McKeever who wrote for Marvel would eventually show up, he didn't.

As for him intentionally doing shocking things, it shows. There's no rhyme nor reason to some of the stories other than to shock. Terror Titans as a whole was like that. It's a shame that they used that mini as the vehicle to introduce Static to the DCU.

The final straw and Mr. McKeever , nothing against your work as a whole...its like every issue you either did 3 things :

1.) A team member quits to never return again , except issues later. Usually they quit crying ...and leave.

2.) The shock factor was too insane and stupied. From Miss Martian waking up in a truck stop giving it up to truckers , to Marvin being mauled by an evil devil dog.

3.) With Jamie Reyes title being ended , you could have actually developed Reyes . Instead as one guy in my LCS said "Who is this new Blue Beetle ? And why do we care if he argues with Red Devil a lot ?"

You had a good team possibly. But the work done on the series was just....bad. I dropped it at 64. I saw previews of a 30 yearold Kid Eternity and it made me wonder how bad this title could get.

Just being honest...it wasn't your best I feel. Maybe the Ravager back up will be good. But as a whole Teen Titans just wasn't.

In all fairness, I think the scene with Wendy and Marvin getting mauled by a dog is one that many people were anxiously awaiting for decades...

Of course, given the Wendy and Marvin in the books were completely different characters who only really shared the same name, it does subtract from what little jubilation there would be.

I'd go the Marv Wolfman route and come up with stories that balanced the action with the characterization. Focus on the relationships between all the individuals.

No we did not need to see Marvin mauled ....and we sure as hell didn't need to see a 30+ yearold Clock King nailing some 18 yearold , barely legal ass in bed. Which was pretty creepy since it comes to mind as well.

It was just "bad shock ideas" tossed into a series. And I won't even get into the lackluster debut of Static . He debuts in a mini-series that really ...would never get much attention.

Just a shame Teen Titans got this bad.

Sean's problem was that he wrote the Teen Titans as modern teens with superpowers, rather than a young adult miniature version of the JLA. This would have been okay if the readership was the same age as the people in the book, but the average reader is a hell of a lot older than 17 or 18 and they don't want to read about teens being correctly portrayed as teens.

Cool, I might at last be able to read this comic again. *Keeps fingers crossed* But truth to tell, all of DC's books are too lewd for my taste right now. It's not really just a by creator thing. It's the entire line, no matter who's writing. There's no escape.

Linkara

Sean, while I will say that your most recent issues have definitely been an improvement, I did drop the book for the first time after the Wonder Dog debacle. It felt mean-spirited, inappropriate, and just tossed in for shock value.

That being said, I really enjoyed Titans #11. that and issue #5 have been the best in the series, if only because they focus on the team's relationship with each other (heck, you even had Donna as a photographer again!).

I seriously hated that there was no "core team". Peopel comign and going every 2 issues was lame.

Plus the book was getting way way to serious.

Sigh. I just want Young Justice back.

This would have been okay if the readership was the same age as the people in the book, but the average reader is a hell of a lot older than 17 or 18 and they don't want to read about teens being correctly portrayed as teens.

Jim Shooter was the same age of the LSH when he wrote them , Chuck Dixon was older than Tim Drake , but seemed to grasp that not all teens are crying emo disastors. The problem with Sean was he came up with bad "shock" ideas.

Its like Vince Russo in the WWF at one time. The way he presented the WWF product was to teenagers with lewd shocking behavior. It worked since he had Vince McMahon as a strong editor to weed out the bad ideas. Now when Russo went to WCW he didn't have that editor and what we saw was horrible ideas witha few nice ones mixed in.

Here the biggest problem was that DC didn't have a strong editor to tell Sean "No , Marvin being mauled by a dog is a bad idea. And we have to quit having team members leave crying for 2 issues and return. And that Clock King idea is pretty tastless too..."

Had a strong editor took charge maybe McKeever would be writing the book still and most of us telling him in this thread how horrid as shit the series became.

Actually, Lester, I disagree with what you wrote. It was the opposite of what you said.

McKeever did indeed write them like mini-JLAers and not teenagers. Therein lies the problem.

There was a rumor a while back that issue where Clock King is shown in bed with Disruptor and Miss Martian almost has sex with the two men in a dirty bathroom was written for promotional purposes. There is a thread about it here and and the DC forums but the search fuction is broken which is just as well as some posters made it personal.

You keep saying you're done discussing this, then you keep on implying, with your 'none of us was there' BS, that Sean (who, hey, is "actually there" for every one of his conversations) isn't telling the truth.

I can pretty much guarantee I've known Sean longer than any source you've got. When he says something, he means it and he stands by it. That beats your anonymous sources every way you cut it.

Here's the bottom line: Your sources either lied to you or misinterpreted something they heard Sean say, maybe at a convention or something. They've likely also blown a few friendly conversations out of proportion and decided they're his friends, rather than casual acquaintances he chats with politely when he runs into them. Happens all the time.

They've then proceeded to tell you about their conversations with a big time comic book writer to score geek points.

Damn, this kind of thing pisses me off. This is exactly the kind of garbage that sours creators on interacting with fans.

I stand corrected.. she was in THREE Teen Titans Arcs

Light Out (#21 - #23)
The Insiders (#24 - #25)
Lost and Found (#30 - #31)
Doom's Day (#32: Infinite Crisis Tie-inn, with the Phantom Zone Arrow)
The New Teen Titans, Part 1: One Year Later (#34: Short Flashback where she lead the team after Beast Boy left)

thats it..

Now... who here liked Kole?

Not a fan. Costume was too busy for me. Same reason I never liked Jericho.

I've always liked Guardian/Herald/Vox though. It used to be that he seemed to have a lot of potential, and it just drifted away.

My favorite Titan is Dick Grayson, as written by Wolfman/Perez. And drawn by Perez. That's a must.

As much as I ADORE Perez, costume design has never been his strong suit. Most of them are very... flashy.

No, regular costumes are flashy. Perez's designs were... is there a definition of a word meaning, "being paid for drawing extra lines?"

If so, that's what they are.

Are you talking about the bit with Brother Blood saying that she wasn't pure or defiled I can't remember which? I didn't recall that being an intentional joke unless you count her comeback line which I thought was funny.

The demon saying she is unpure or what ever might be what I thought I remembered from #31.. but no..
I'm talking about this

It would have been totally innocent if Bart didn't have that look on his face and Mias reaction was "Sure" or "Why yes young man, it it a long way from Star City to Los Angeles and I would be happy to accompany you "
But no.. he played it off like a "lol WHORE!" joke..

I'd go the Marv Wolfman route and come up with stories that balanced the action with the characterization. Focus on the relationships between all the individuals.

Well, that settles it. The job is yours.

Neither of US was there for whatever transpired. So you can take Sean at his word, or not. You can take what I was told and believe it or disregard it. Your choice. I'm not saying anyone is a liar or that they are indeed telling the truth. There is no way you can find 'proof' in a situation like this unless you were there and had a recording device.

My original post was merely what I was told. Sean refutes that, and it is his right... but no one else was there for any actual conversation(s).

I thought we were done discussing this, why do you insist on bringing it up?

The one person who was there and using his real name posted in this thread to refute that. Where are the mystery people you claimed made this thing up? Why don't they come and post here?

When it was convenient the accusations go flying, now when cornered and asked to back up her claims... shrike is retreating and doing the whole "I'm done talking about thing"

OK, let's all go over this again.I will not state name(s) of those involved because obviously Sean has a big beef with it. That's it, no 'secret agenda'. Why should I start a war between him and others? That's bullshit.

God, Crowley, get your head out of your ass already and drop it.

EDIT: What is this 'repeated behavior' business? When have I _ever_made a claim like this? Oh wait, that's right... never.

ONE FINAL EDIT: lol... seriously, Crowley, Sean, whomever... if it makes you feel that much better to sleep at night, I fully encourage you to think I'm pulling all of this out of my ass. Please. I'm just kind of over it at this point.

Haha what? I mean, yeah, the majority of readers are adults, but my e-friends who're comic geeks and teens like myself have never been interested in Teen Titans, because they don't act like teenagers.

Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane: Correct portrayal of good teenagers. Conflicted and unsure and paranoid and insecure, but have the heart in the right place! Care about their friends! Own up to their mistakes!

Teen Titans: Not so much! Yes, that's true for Jaime, KD and M'Gann, who had very little screen time in comparison to the rest of the gang, but not so much for Tim and Cassie. Cassie is kind of being cool again, and that interview before where McKeever was talking about how he no longer wanted her to be defined by Zeus/Diana/Connor/Tim had me incredibly excited, but really, for every issue before the Ares arc, she was absolutely insufferable. Robin wasn't really the Tim Drake I loved, he was a lot more grimdaark and angsty then I like him, and he just seemed to sit around bitching.

All of this is just my opinion, of course.
