She's certainly the hottest of the New Mutants, Amara is , so much like the other New Mutants , a deep and interesting character.. Let's talk about our favorite moments and relationships of this earth shaking white hot mutant, and our future hopes for our favorite resident of Nova Roma now that New Mutants is coming back

Just curious, is this limited to Amara Aquila Magma or inclusive of Alison Crestmere Magma?

Cool either way in my opinion.

I really like Magma, but for no particular reason. I thought after her role in the 198 story she was primed for more spotlight. I would have liked to see her play a bigger role in current UXM stories. Can anyone here clarify if this new New Mutants book takes place in current or past continuity?

Its interesting that Magma hasnt become a full fledged X-Man. I mean, her powers are super powerful, and she has a great visual, and she has a confusing background. She's perfect! But its never happened...

She became an indispensable X-Man... in X-Men Legends.

I agree with you though, she is a powerful mutant with what seems like an interesting background... but she never made it to the big team. Maybe she's too powerful?

Isn't that supposed to be Phoenix? Kind of strange since the image is from Marvel's site.

As far as Magma, I loved her time as a member of the New Hellions. I hate how that era hasn't ever been brought up. I guess the phrase "forgive and forget" is quite literal for our mutants friends.

While I have no problem that they brought back her Nova Roma heritage, I hated how Claremont did it with such a throwaway line. It certainly could have been handled far better than it was.

Magma is a very interesting character..

Most of what I remember of her is from the 198 series. She was on the side of good but was also willing to learn and befriend those that were maybe not as good or friendly. She reminds me of Dust in that way.

I remember a little of her from New X-Men as well? She did not have a large role there though.

The new book takes place currently , in current continuity I mean. The book isn't out until May. I have a q for everybody. Can Magma fly ? I didn't think she could but then a panel in some comic ( I can't remember right now ) showed her flying so I'm a little confused

Alison Crestmere was one of the fun characters to play as in X-Men Legends. Except for the Danger room sequences and where she had to help Forge... but in general the solo sequences are less fun.

I used to think Amara would be better off on the main X team , but now that they're bring back the NM title there really isn't any place I'd rather her be

I was bored, so I made some avatars. Igor Kordey drew a very beautiful magma, and the first two avatars definitely showcase that.

She looks very pretty in the first one like justinkos already mentioned. And not in a Emma or Dazzler way too, very nice.

She flew in the 198 LS, but I really don't know why... she's like the opposite of Storm (claustrophobia), since she's an Earth goddess, she hates flying... or should if creators got her characterization right.

Magma can heat up her body like magma, I don't know if she can get as hot as the sun. When she's standing on earth, she can channel magma through her body and fling it at people (lava blasts). She can also control the temperature of the magma she controls, so she can encase people in cooled stone, hot magma or force huge slabs of granite to the surface to crush people... that and split open the ground, make volcanos etc... she's really powerful... plus when she's touching the ground, she's basically immortal.

If you add that she's a skilled warrior/swordswoman, and as smart as Kitty, I don't get how the Young X-Men or the Blob should have given her any trouble. Anyhoo...

Amara was awesome during the original New Mutants run.
I loved her strong sense of honor she would often vocalize in battle with her teammates.
Chastising Wolfsbane for wanting to leave Magik when she was injured for example:

Wolfsbane: Should we go t' their aid?!
Amara: "Stay here girl! You don't ever desert a comrade, especially if she's wounded!

I also very much enjoyed her references to roman gods. That was always a treat.

Some of my favorite Amara moments:

UXM #189, when she found out Selene was with the Hellfire Club, and she and Rachel infiltrated the Club, dressing up as maids, to assassinate Selene, and had to be told off by Xavier that X-Men don't assassinate.

NM #82, when she'd lost faith in the Greek Gods and Hercules showed up to cheer her up, and he was shown up and made to look lame by all the New Mutants, so it ended up with Hercules losing faith in *himself*, and together Amara and Hercules rebuilt their faiths.

NM #49, where in a possible future she had married Roberto and brought about a fascist mutantocracy with him. That issue really hammered home the fact that she, like Roberto, is an aristocrat so arrogant that they both think they know what's good for people better than the people know themselves. In this, they are definitely the two "darkest" New Mutants. The future of NM #49 will always be a shadow over those two characters and create tension making the reader wonder when they will slip.

I like characters that don't fit the do gooder norm . Amara is snooty and dark , but she also has a good heart. Yes she thinks she knows what is best for people and that implies a sense of narcissism , but she also forces people to try and live up to the ethical code that she enforces on herself. Anyway this thread is getting me hyped for the New Mutants reboot

I actually really liked that look. It's not as elegant looking as some of her past looks, but it is battle armor after all.

Art Adams drew a wicked Amara as a fire sprite in the special "Asgard" edition...I loved that visually, she was so different from the other new mutants...all swirly and fiery...HAWT!!!...just my two pence.

I was first introduced to her in X-treme X-Men and I thought she was really interesting and after that book ended I didn't really see her except knowing she was in the 198 mini-series.

I'm definitely going to be trying out the New Mutants book now. I picked up New Mutants Classics Vol. 1 and I plan to get the rest when I'm done.
