You can love the fact that someone is an effective villain, but that's different from empathizing with them or getting warm fuzzies for some other reason.

Not true, actually. They were Germans who went along with the Nazis, but not members of the Nazi Party. I think Werner Klemperer once described Col. Klink as a little man who just wants to go about his little life and wishes the Nazis would all just go away somehow.

(Of course, they do collaborate with evil, and don't really do anything to stop it*, which may or may be evil in itself.)

I'd have trouble calling the Wall evil, really. She's an utter bastard, yes, but her bastardry is usually intended towards some ostensibly good purpose.

I say this having just recently read a bunch of the old Suicide Squad series, where she's going after terrorists, dictators, cults, demagogues, and a voodoo gang.

She isn't nice, and I don't think karma's likely to turn out in her favor, but "evil" is far from accurate.

Since she made out with Luthor (yes, I vomited a little on that), she's definitely been more, IMO, manipulative, underhanded, blindly patriotic, secretive, and completely ruthless in her support of the government's orders. Her career in Checkmate, the Salvation Run planet, working against the JLA with the Suicide Squad, even her return to running the Squad directly all smacked, to me, of an amoral person with no integrity.
