With the Eternals series that has been ongoing, but unforntunelty I have not had the funds to purchase I was hoping someone could fill me in on some of the changes.

1. In the past it was established the Celestials created deviants, Eternals, and the potential for mutants and other super beings. Is this still true? I know they created Deviants and Eternals but is it still fact they created mutants? An interview with Neil Gaiman when he wrote that mini a few years back seemed to indicate that had been changed and mutants were more a natural phenomenon, but has anything been commented on that?

2. Has the Dreaming Celestial's crime been explained? Gaiman indicated it was beyond human comprehension.

3. Has it been fully explained why the Celestials create Deviants and Eternals? In the past it was to test a species genetic diversity and longevity respectivly with the end result of along with mutants create a race with the potential to be the next Eternity as established in X-Men: Forever. Has another reason been given?

4. What is this "fulcrum" I heard they claim to serve?

5. Has it been explained what a Celestial is?

6. What do you think gives the Celestials the right to tamper with races like they do?

7. Do you think a race the Celestials have not tampered with could potentially "surpass" a race they have tampered with that was a success?

thanks

I have my own theory on this, which is a subtle twist on this previously established description.

Mutants were created with the goal of increasing the likelihood and speed of finding one particular individual who could.... not necessarily become the next Eternity, but something akin to it.

Eternals (or equivalent) were placed on each planet to guard these mutants (and their corresponding base races) with the potential to achieve this lofty goal from any external threat, until the special individual is found. They're immortal because you'd want a shield to be constant and never changing or weakening.

Deviants were placed there to provide the threats necessary to nudge these races along their development. They're not immortal, and vary more in form and power, because you'd want your race to develop resistance to as many different forms of threats as possible. This also explains why the Celestials gave Apocalypse the nod, since his whole schtick is based on "The strong will survive."

The detail on what that chosen individual would eventually become, I'll leave out. That way I can always pretend to myself that I'll one day get the chance to write that story.

Does any of that make any sense?

4. What is this "fulcrum" I heard they claim to serve? It's unclear. Presumably, if it hadn't been canceled, that would've been a plot point in the current series.5. Has it been explained what a Celestial is?Not definitively. Various writers have put forth theories, but they've all had the good sense not to get too definitive.6. What do you think gives the Celestials the right to tamper with races like they do?I don't think right or wrong really have anything to do with it. They're more or less forces of nature at this point.7. Do you think a race the Celestials have not tampered with could potentially "surpass" a race they have tampered with that was a success?Anything's possible, I guess. Look at which sub-species of Kree or Skrull survived. And there's been no hint of any Eternal or Deviant Shi'ar groups.

I think the Watchers are probably one of the most powerful races, and I'm almost certain they've never been Celestialised. Of course, the watchers have all that power and use it to be little more than voyeurs, but what can you do?

I think from their perspective it's the same as humans breeding or altering plants/animals for their own goals.

Yeah, we're the Celestials' very own Alien Ant Farm. Except most of us have never recorded a cover version of Smooth Criminal.
