It will probably end up as them saving Surge first, thinking they have time to get to Hellion, but he'll die right before they get to him... making X-23 sad and hate herself for saving Surge first (as she should).

This is a distraction. Its mentioned that they wouldn't have even known Hellion and Surge were abducted if Pierce hadn't blabbed about it. Anyway, Surge getting tagged was really surprising. Geez, the X-Men just can't seem to keep an eye on their kids one way or another. The situation with her and Hellion makes it feel like only one's going to be saved, so I hope it's Julian. There's enough young Japanese girls in the Marvel U as it is anyway.

Hellion? Surge? Boom Boom?
I said it before i say it again. The X-men are truely the WORST at keeping track on their comrades and especialy students.
There is no other explanations how this could have happend, or how Nightcrawler in WATX could get captured by Mystique on their front lawn, or how dozens of mutants could get cruzified IN FRONT OF THEIR MANSION!!!
Does no one of the X-men ever look out of their windows?
It really doesn't wonder me anymore how they could NOT notice the existance of neverland, that hundred of mutants could just dissappear including some friends of them.
Also how the hell could a few half-brained extremist capture Surge and especialy Boom Boom who is a veteran already.
Anyway the X-possition wasn't very intresting for me. Also not much new except those previews.

Surge croaks.
Dom will shoot the glass part of the needle. So even if the Leper Queen does try to shove it in Boom Boom's neck the liquid will be all over the floor. Thereby rendering that threat useless.
Then comes the hunt for the remaining two targets.
Given Julian's attitude we'll be lead to believe that he is going to die. Laura goes off to save him on her own. Disobeying Wolverine who has decided they have a better chance at rescuing Surge.
Last scene a massive explosion occurs. With the reader left hanging as to who it was the died.
Well that's my guess anyhow. Cause that's how I'd do it.

I think Hellion will be saved by either Eli Bard or Selene. The interview did mention that the relationship between Selene and Julian would be touched upon soon.
Of course, he might be killed off, and that might be a reason for Selene and X-Force to team up against Bastion and Co. Her mutant abilities would be of great assistance against those who have been resurrected via the Transmode Virus. She could probably just reduce the tech to dust and they would become "inactive"

Its possible, but if one or both Julian and Nori die there, I think Josh would be a bit more freaked out than he seems to be.
The only thing I can think of aside from it being something else, is maybe Hellion was able to concentrate enough to fly them up, and away from the building. I can't think there'd be much building left otherwise if those two detonate at full power.

Maybe this arc is meant to be the deconstruction of Elixir into the creepster villain we all know he could be!
Well we know that Hellion and Surge do get infected, so it's all on Elixir now.
I'm betting he saves them. He just doesn't look that upset in the Prologue pages. Elixir is pretty unstable emotionally he'd be going nuts if he left them to die.

I have a love/hate relationship with the satellite books, since I don't think they've really carried a sense of being important before, other than their sporadic involvement in crossovers.
A good example would be New X-Men/Academy X, where it really had no overall impact on the line, it was just there. Same with X-Force (Vol 1), or X-Factor (Vol 1), even the solo books, like Rogue, Gambit, and Cable.
It's great that each book has its own identity, but I've never ever got the sense from them that they were important to the overall existence of the X-Men, that I get from Uncanny, Legacy, or even Astonishing.

I'm interested in seeing where this goes, but since this is only Act II of the Mutant Messiah trilogy something tells me that it will end with Cable and Hope still in the future.
Probably for the best, though, as I don't really know where Cable would fit in with the X-men's current direction in the present. I don't see them messing with the team dynamic in X-Force by adding him to the cast since Wolverine is clearly the field leader and it's working quite well that way. And in Uncanny I just feel like he would be out of character unquestioningly taking orders from his dad, plus Fraction doesn't seem to have any love for the character anyway (he seems to prefer playing with the mainstays like Cyclops, Beast, Emma, Colossus, Angel and, of course, Wolverine). If Nate does come back, I suspect no one would really know what to do with him, so we'd probably end up with another Cable/Deadpool scenario where nothing that happens in his solo book is really referenced in any of the other books. He'd just be out on the fringe like he is now, but in the present.
That's why I think he'll remain in the future until Hope is full grown (at which point he'll probably die or something). Or until another writer comes along like Mike Carey who wants to add him to their X-men roster in a way that makes sense and where he is utilized well.
Regardless, this crossover looks good. Can't wait to see X-Force versus Stryfe!

That's a very strange opinion. At least on this forum, most people don't care what happens in Legacy. And I say that as its biggest fan here. But even all the work Carey does with someone like, say, Shaw, gets ignored line wide if Fraction or anyone else wants Shaw.
X-Force is the book where things happen. Maybe you're right about other satellites, but this is basically the new flagship.

I care about Legacy because I have an attachment to Rogue, and right now it's my favourite X-Book, but I was mostly using it in my example as part of it's pre-Legacy, and possibly post-Legacy, positioning.
I'm not trying to imply that X-Force is a bad book by any means, the problem is easily from the X-Office. They've published so many titles over the years, pushed out so many different series that simply get ignored or die, that I take each satellite book with a grain of salt.
X-Force may be the coolest thing since sliced bread, but Marvel has never made any other satellite seem important, that it just feels like to me that it can be missed, and that's not the fault of this book.
Plus, I kind of passed on it as well because I honestly was not at all interested in Kyle & Yost's work thanks to reading New X-Men.

Boom Boom, Surge, and Hellion!?!?!? Nooooo! I love all three of them! Hellion the least, but still! If this was three or four years ago, I'd say sure, kill them all, who cares? But Boom Boom is now a favorite as well as a fan-favorite of many thanks to NEXTWAVE which basically revitalized her character and pretty much defined her for her entire future as a character. If they kill her now, all that fun with her will be lost! Surge also has a lot of potential as does Hellion. They are pretty much set to be the future of the X-Men. Knowing Kyle and Yost do not mess around, this really bothers me. So does the size of Boom Boom and Surge's breasts and the glare of their skin but that is besides the point.
Fever Pitch and Beautiful Dreamer were enough. And I actually really liked both of them so I'm sort of sad they are gone! Honestly. All of the D-Listers are being killed and they're moving on to the B-Listers now. :(

Using Boom Boom as a "suicide bomb" is so incredibly appropriate, can't believe no one saw this coming! If the Leper Queen wants a human bomb, get the mutant who literally makes bombs!
I hope she doesn't go boom boom for real though. I hope none of them die, but someone likely will.
I bet Boomer is saved, otherwise Domino would not be making jokes with Warpath in Messiah War Prologue.
Then the team head for the United Nations building to save Julian and Surge, but before they arrive, they get teleported away courtesy of Cyclops/Beast. That's why Josh and Laura are somewhat calm in Messiah War Prologue, because their friends didn't die yet, and they will likely be teleported back to the same time and location and can save them later. But one or both will die. So sad.
Are there 2 more parts to suicide leper storyarc after Messiah War?

Um, really? They have all the time in the world: once they know the point in time they're traveling to, they can depart for it whenever they feel like it. He'll always be there at that point in time. Find a different narrative reason for urgency... One that makes sense.

i like Hellion and Surge...was never a huge fan....but i like them.
As for the possibility of one dying....i love KY a lot but i am a bit tired of them using this for dramatic effect....it comes across as histrionic.
Especially with where mutants are at....
We have a very limited pool of mutants to select from. i am not saying they should be exempt from killing...but the rate these writers are going...there might not be any left. Creating characters like Ink do not solve the issue.
i also get a bit tired of the youth team being so friggin vulnerable. If they want to seem like they are taking a real risk...throw a classic character in there.
i am already a bit sad that beautiful dreamer and fever pitch are dead...that is enough. You had Your bus explosion, gunshots to the head, and so on. i know these writers are bloodbath happy...and they can continue to be so and try something different. Heck..for these two...having everyone come out intact, and believably so, would be an artistic risk. They did it in Quest for Magik and other arcs. You can still create a great, surprising story with these characters in tact.

She could probably just reduce the tech to dust and they would become "inactive"Uhm.. No, they were talking about Wither - Kevin Ford. Not Julian aka Hellion.
Am I the only one who actually likes Hellion and Surge? :redface:No, me too! I'm a fan of both! Hellion more than Surge, but I've always liked her. She's one of my fave kids. They'd better not die! X-23 and Elixir will come to the rescue.

As for a team keeping track of their members I give you Alpha Flight who had members in Neverland(Diamond Lil, Persuasion; placed there by other former members (Madison Jefferies, Wildchild, Aurora). Before that Jefferies had been kidnapp by the Zodiac, and Lil had been kidnapped and infected by some other guy.
 It's Boom-Boom!
Stow it!
Crap I don't want anyone to die!
If you don't like characters dying I think you may have the wrong book.
I have never seen Boom Boom dress so trampily. I think it must be Husk. If the character were to "make like her code name" Boom Boom's the only one that fits.
Yes...:).....Beautiful Dreamer and Fever Pitch packed quite a wallup...moreso than i expected.....i think adding another New X-Man to the mix, whether You like them or not, runs the risk of being a bit too histrionic and over the top.
We keep running out of mutants. Unless that Messiah Baby starts doing the messiah-shake soon...we are going to run out of characters to write about.
i am not really interested in reading a book solely with Wolverine, Scott, Beast, and Emma.
My lack of enthusiasm for Uncanny being the perfect example.
Dreamer made quite an impact for a character who had been in the background for most of her career.

Once they use the devices. But really, jsterron is right. If Beast knows that Cable is in Year X at Time Y, they could jump to that point now, or next week, and Cable will still be there.
Thats why Cable not returning doesnt make much sense. Whenever Cable gets the ability to return to the present, he can jump back to the moment Messiah CompleX ended. Unless he never gains the ability to come back to the present, and then it makes sense, because X-Force needed to get him and bring him back.

Actually they do not. Let me explain why:
In a previous issue, I believe it was Cable #6, Beast was working on a way to send little detection devices into the time stream. Think of these as radar, they don't know when Cable is, he's about 1000 years into the future, they've been checking every second ahead of them and have had no luck. It's like looking for one needle in every hay stack through out time. If he appears they have to act because if he jumps again, they loose him. They are reading these signals in a real time manner, it appears that the time devices Cyclops has given X-Force are linked to Cable's location, if he zaps away they lose the ability to send X-Force to him. It doesn't appear that they have the technology to travel anywhere in time, only to the exact time Cable is in, since the little detectors they sent out in Cable #6 are attuned to Cable's signature.
So you see, with these little signal devices tune into Cable's signature, they have to go right when they find him.

That cover with Archangel in the background is awesome. What ARE his metal wings these days? Metal Feather? bio-tech fibres? solid metal plates? bat-like wings?
I think a relationship between X-23 and Warren would be cool, what with Archangels wierdness about clones. Blow up Hellion just to be sure.

But if the devices are set to Cable's signature, why do they need to search the timestream anyway? Why dont they just jump right to where Cable is?
And I dont understand why they can't jump to just any time. Where is Forge? Why isnt he working with Beast on this one? Once they find Cable, he will always be at that one place at that particular time.
I mean, if I can time travel, and I jump to the future right now, it doesnt change the fact that I was once here, at 2:42 PM on 18 March 2009. And thats all that the X-Men need to find Cable. Then they jump to that particular point, and find out whats what.

Because they have to find him first, that's why they sent out those little balls into the time stream.
And I dont understand why they can't jump to just any time. Where is Forge? Why isnt he working with Beast on this one? Once they find Cable, he will always be at that one place at that particular time.

He will always be at the one place in time, correct, but that's not how it was said these things work. X-Force doesn't seem to be able to jump right to specific point in time, they jump to Cable in that specific point in time. No Cable, no link to that time. It appears that machine Beast has that is reading these signals is reading them in real time so if Cable is in a certain spot in time for one hour, they have one hour to get to that certain spot in time or else they will lose him.
As for Forge, I think he's off doing his own thing, Cyclops seems to want to keep as few people as possible in on this and if Beast says he can do it, I think Cyclops finds no reason to call Forge. Beast gave him a way into the future, it's not perfect, but Cyclops seems to be in a hurry, so he takes what he can get.

But you say in your post Cable being there is in "real time", but there is no real-time in time-travel, surely. That is the whole point of it. If there was real time in time travel, you could never travel anywhere because on some time line any event ever has already happened.
And anyway, if Beast has sent out his trackers, they will always be at that point with Cable too.in 100 years time, Beast will still "just" have sent his trackers out, and they will "just have found Cable".
I dunno you could be right i guess. I just dont get how. I hate time-travel. They should stop it.

The people who are saying that once you determine where Cable is at any one point in time it becomes irrelevant since you can just transport to that point in time whenever you feel like, are 100% correct.
The only hiccup I could possibly see is Cable, you know, walking around, since then he won't be in that precise location for more than a second, but now I'm just being obtuse.
There is no drama in time travel.

Again, in my post, I clear this up. Beast said he could do it. Beast is one of Cyclops most trusted friends, Forge is not. This mission he is sending X-Force on is suppose to be a secret. Plus Beast is there, at the mansion, Forge is not.
These devices seem to be able to travel in time, but since they relay information they operate in real time as well, it's why when Beast sent them into the time stream 6 issues ago, they didn't automatically detect Cable. This is why you can't just jump to a point in time and sit and wait. Could Forge have done something like that? Probably, but Forge sucks as a character so he doesnt' get written.

But Cable is always at that particular point in time (or at any other point in time that he has/is/will be at.) In fact, how can these machines know which of the many points in the timestream Cable has visited to send people to?
The answer you apologists for this glaring plot gaffe would seem to offer up is: "whenever he is now." Except that is nonsensical: from the point of view of the present Cable is at once at all points in the future he has traveled to. It makes no sense to say that from the point of view of 2009, Cable is only going to be at a specific point in time (say May 1, 2973 23:12:10EST) for 32 more minutes. If his travels have taken him there, then there will always be a Cable at May 1, 2973 23:12:10EST (or whenever) to send people to.
Face it, it's a huge screw up.

You are wrong. The devices aren't like the time machines we read about in other fiction. The devices relay information from the future to the past, that happens in a real time manner, it isn't happening as one big chunk of information. It's streaming, like radar sort of. Because it's streaming, it happens in real time. Yes they could probably take a lot of time and create a time machine that sends to that specific point in time, but that's not what they are doing. Cyclops is in a hurry, he's getting impatient. The devices they sent out in Cable #6 act as beacons for the bracelets Beast created in X-Force #12, they aren't perfect. This really isn't that hard to understand.

Um, there is no such thing as "real time." Just different frames of reference. This isn't from 'other fiction.' It's Relativity 101.
These gaping plot ho... err, theoretical cross-time transmitters transmit to the present. From that frame of reference, the signal pointing to Cable in 2973 will always be valid. Yes, from Cable's frame of reference, he will eventually leave 2973 but that is not only irrelevant but nonsensical to the present frame of reference.
Beast doesn't need to build a time machine that goes to 2973; his machines that can take them to Cable are enough. From the X-Men's present frame of reference, there will always be a Cable in 2973 for those machines to take them to.
'Streaming' 'realtime' those things make no sense once the signal is traveling through time. It only makes sense for a signal pinpointing someone in space. You are using spatial common sense rather than temporal common sense, it just doesn't apply.
Yost and Kyle's logic is so messed up and inconsistent that it's impossible to suspend disbelief. It's just plain sloppy.

How is it confusing? The devices open up little holes in time to transmit the data, by doing that they link present day to the time they are in, they move then at the same speed, real time.

no, your not. You arent the anything of the X-Forum. You are just a poster, with the same level of authority as, well, me. So until you become mod of these boards, you telling me to do anything is amusing at best, quite sad (for you) at worst.

This is not a democracy. Stop acting like you are equal to Novaya.

Even if Novaya Havoc did not have more authority than you, your statement is still false.

And I slavishly worship at your boot, Priestley Priestess.

The series wouldn't have been cancelled after 12 issues if they had.

Did Kyle and Yost write Young X-Men?   Are you joking?!
No they did not! They wrote NEW X-Men. If they'd have written Young X-Men, it would have been a damn site better book! And would have lasted more then 12 issues.

My point was that Anna was passive aggressively complaining about thread derailment and then asked for Young X-Men spoilers in a Kyle and Yost thread. Thanks for making me spell it out.

I wasn't asking you to spell it out. I was just commenting that Kyle and Yost are better than Guggenheim.

Anything I say in response to this will seem like an attack on Kyle and Yost rather than your immature comparison, so I will refrain from putting you in your place.

Yeah you're right, I really shouldn't have said that. I am being really immature.
I really need to grow up.
