Idea #1
The Dracos- fantasy/superhero
Dragons return to a modern world, bringing with them their alliances and enimosity. The forces of nature personified, the wield the powers to heal an ailing world or tear it assunder. But they do not return alone. Instead of exile, some dragons chose to hide among mankind, so now their half-breed offspring learn to cope with both their human and their draconic heritige.
Idea #2
Ladyfinger the Crumbshoe Detective
Lou Ladyfinger is a hardnosed PI with some rather sweet cases. In the city of Bakersfield, he solves everything from murders to thefts with the aid of his girlfriend Ginger and sometimes from the earnest and eager kid Chip. By the way, did I mention Bakersfield is populated by desserts?
Idea #3
Shinerunner
Willam Raymond Lawson is your typical deep south Alabama boy with a passion for country, the love of his beat up ol Chevy and his good ol dawg Blue. Life was good, right up till the night he was abducted by aliens who seemed closer to home that he was. Rednecked shine running aliens take him along on a wild adventure from which he'd never wake up from.
Idea #4
Gamer Grrrl and the D6 of Fate
see my entry in the concepts contest thread
Idea #5
Mighty Mice
The five oldest children from a large family have just said farewell to their mother and siblings, brutally murdered under mysterious circumstances. They learn, much to their surprise that thier father was none other than the legendary Mighty Mouse, missing now for their entire life. Together they learn about themselves as they search for the truth about their father, and see if it is possible to save the day.

ok, I'll admit, they're a little off the wall, but unless I take the chance and get them out there how am I gonna know what's any good?
I'd love opinions and critiques.....please....don't spare my feelings. I've got skin an inch thick, it won't hurt at all.

The 1st idea sounds cool.
But I think I like the 3rd one more. It sounds like a really wacky adventure.

thanks, I kinda have a redneck streak of my own (you should hear me belt out "Redneck Woman" by Gretchen Wilson ) so I have a feeling there is a chance for all kinds of hijinks.
personally I'm starting to favor the Crumbshoe Detective one myself...too many puns are possible and the names of people and places would be hilarious even titles, like "the Case of the Marzipan Falcon"

I know this is unrealted topic, but I'm tired of doing black and white....
What coloring would you recommend for an "old school" girl like me? I've tried prismacolors, I like the way they go on, but I'm not sure which colors to go with...they didn't have CYM available....only black

I like Idea #2 (desserts are totally droolworthy) but all of them sound like they could be a lot of fun.
Are you fixed on Markers or would you think about coloured pencils or paints?

#2 is my personal favorite, on the grounds that it would just be so wacky to have a film noir story where the characters are anthropomorphized pastries. But #1 sounds like it'd work the best, since dragons are a natural fit for superhero comics, but thus far have been woefully under-represented. When the most prominent dragon in the superhero universes is the Dragon Man, a low-intellect brute wheeled out as the muscle of better villains, there's a problem...

I'm open to suggestions as I've worked with other mediums before including pencils, watercolors and pastels.
oh, but the idea's for #2 are just rich, pun intended....for example
Louie's girlfriend; Ginger Snap
the local pie tycoon; Granny Smith
heir to Granny Smith's fortune; Soure Apple
local swank Italian restaurant; Biscotti's
Need I continue?

nitz, I think you forgot Savage Dragon...
I thumbed through that one but wasn't all that impressed. He looked like a green skinned bodybuilder with a fin on his head, there wasn't anything spectacularly draconic about him either. Got some character sketches of three of my protagonists on my art thread

I'm not sure it would work with the vision that you have for your comics but watercolour pencils are very versatile. I always get an effect more like classic children's illustration rather than comic book though. A pastel comic strip would be awesome but a lot of work.
I indulged and bought a whack of Copic markers that I'm still figuring out how to use.
Love the puns, by the way.

The Mighty Mice can be a very interesting comic. It sounds like a really comical story (like Disney's), yet there is real-life gory like that family members massacre.

I forgot Savage Dragon because he's about as much like a dragon as Wolverine is like an actual wolverine. And since real wolverines don't have canary yellow fur with tiger stripes, that's not saying much.

 I know what you mean!
BTW that whole Mighty Mice idea is more like a continuation of Mighty Mouse, just with his kids...their names would be based on italian cheeses, like Provolone, Mozerella, Parmesan, Asiago, and Romano
And a continuation of the Crumbshoe puns, their pro baseball team's called the Baker's Dozen:biggrin:
and for idea #1, there's an opening for every character, literally following them as they adapt to being Drakes, or watching their past if they're a true dragon, that sort of thing
I really can't decide which is better so I"m dividing my attention among them all..

I've actually got some artwork cooked up for Ladyfinger....will have it up tomorrow sometime...
Shinerunner is a cooking with interesting plot points revolving around the sexy femme alien Billy Ray falls head over boot heels with....hooboy:rolleyes: I'll try and get some art done over the week
Artwork proceeding with The Dracos, so I'll get that up when I can
I'm almost scared to try the Mighty Mice....I can envision him, I can remember the fun of the animated show....but I can't remember how his face came together....that's going to be the only way I can make this work...and I wikied it already, the only pic I saw was the older version with the blue suit, not the yellow and red....yikes.

I like this idea for a pitch too. I am really curious if anyone would have taken up the mantle of Bat Bat.

I have to admit, my knowledge is fairly limited, I wouldn't even know who you're talking about  I only hope pursuing this particular idea doesn't land me in hotter water than I can stand, if you take my meaning...
I do have a perfect idea for Ladyfinger though....doing it digest size with larger panels....I've got perspective down pat (I just have to figure out how much detail to put in...). It might make for a longer book, but if I have an interesting plot and characters, then it might be worthwhile...
Shinerunner is in the process of being written right now, still working out the kinks in the character sketches.
and I am currently drooling over a computer tool to make digital coloring easier...the mouse is not working for me.... I may have to take a break from working the artwork and work on some sewing to make a little extra. Oh well, we all gotta do what we gotta do.

I need some advice about markers
I'm looking at prismacolor right now, they're the most affordable art marker without going into the Sharpies that I like. The problem I'm having is the humungous range of colors they have. I'm wanting to stick with the CYMK range
but they only had black and the magenta they had looked more like a lighter shade of hot pink...I have no idea what to get:confused:

Are you drooling over a Wacom tablet? You can get one for pretty cheap, especially the smaller consumer-grade ones. They aren't as sensitive as professional grade, but they'd do just fine for a beginner.
I did my first two or three coloring jobs with just a mouse. Now I literally cannot believe I was able to do it without my tablet.

This may help- http://www.realcolorwheel.com/pencils.htm
And there is a prismacolour contest for their products and they have a demo of different techniques http://prismacolor.com/sanford/consumer/prismacolor/mystudio/prodDemo.jhtml

CBrown, yes, I am drooling over a tablet right now....I only hope things start turning around and I get enough money to get one soon I think it's a bamboo or something like that....I'm not a real computer literate person.
snarkbunny; thanks for the info, although I think it'll take a day or two for my head to stop spinning....perhaps I should just get what will work for my projects?

ok, I've come to some conclusions and due to my husband's overwhelming concern that I'm overstretching myself; I've decided to prioritize as following
I'd like to go in whole hog (as the iowa vernacular would put it) with Crumbshoe Detective and Mighty Mice, everything from writing to art and finishing I feel these two require styles that come easily to me
I'd like to write and provide some visual cues for another artist to work with on The Dracos and Shinerunner (they are far too involved for my abilities)
as for Gamer Girl; just play her some Taps....I got nothin for her that is worth working with.
and now for some art;
mighty mouse's proposed offspring

Yeah the Bamboo is an excellent one to start with - that is what I'm using and it's certainly decent for beginner me.

I think that is the best way. When I started taking evening art classes, my teacher suggested that we start with what we need for the project and to limit our palette. I really, really should remember the limited palette more often. Ooh, but definitely get a blender, if you are going to go with markers. They let you go lighter with your marker colour and to soften lines and other cool stuff.

I've seem to hit a minor snag in the whole idea of the "marzipan falcon" for my Crumbshoe Detective book. Just read the actual novel and I am finding it hard to get the plot to mesh with the whole concept of anthropromorphic desserts. The thoughts with the concept flow more along the lines of Dick Tracy, if you take my meaning.
I need more characters....Hey Matt!!! need any ideas for the CBRunway?

dangnabit, forgot to mention this too
I just realized the biggest weakness that Mighty Mouse had....no real plots...just throw a baddie his way and away he whollups them, the kitchy animation didn't do him any favors at all either with the "new" animation....
It kinda justifies this whole idea I'm working, there's all kinds of subplots that could be worked into the whole idea of his surviving progeny taking the reins if you will..

Did my homework this morning and I think I am justifiably worried
found out the last comic house that had the rights to Mighty Mouse was Marvel:eek:
Granted, my idea is based upon his progeny, the story line is a lot darker and more mysterious, and I would like to at least give any characters involved a makeover (like Oil Can Harry as a wealthy stock exchange operator), but I'm getting really nervous about the whole copyright thing. Anyone have any suggestions? Should I just quit the idea and work on the other three?

I would probably quit the idea and work on the others - unless you want to revamp the entire idea and remove all references to Mighty Mouse.
