He came off as your typical rich jerk to me in Academy X. At the same time though, he was a tolerable jerk. It made him... him.
In New X-Men, we had the chance to see the kids do more though, Julian included, as grim (death-filled) as some of the stories were.

The one thing you have to admire about Julian he's gives it all for his friends...take Laura when he saved Laura, note this way before the ship teasing. When he first met her he was an ass, but he got a littler better as the issues and then POW he's like "Im not going to let my friends die!"

IMO Academy X was pretty much Harry Potter with Mutants. But yeah, now he's reduced to pretty standing around. But he will return to his rightful place sooner or later. C&C will see to that....

Julian got a one page cameo in the lame Northstar story asking if the guy was Northstar's "Regular". Nice tact J-man.

Also until C&C reunite him with his soul mate Laura he was gunna meet up with Celeste Cuckoo at 3 in the Martha story. Now this just might be an excuse to get back at Emma but i think the Cuckoos are ticked at their Mom too.

I figured I would start posting here too lol.

My favorite is definitely the second costume. It is by far one of my favorite X-men costumes period. I also like the red & white with the jacket as well. For some reason, I especially like the fingerless gloves.

However, I'm not a big fan of the yellow. I didn't like any of the yellow and black costumes and was upset when they were given to many of the students.

See, I disagree, I dont think everyone can pull off the leather jacket, but I think Julian rocked it.

And yeah, I liked it better when the students had individual costumes. But I still like all their Academy X costumes alot. Especially Alpha Squadron's.

Julian's best was definitely the red and black. By far. Although I do love his House of M outfit. It reminds me of the Acolytes with the shoulder pads, but that makes sense cus Magneto ruled the world.

Well, personally, I love Julian. He's been my favorite of the New X-Men since his first appearance in New Mutants Vol. 2. I hope they do more with him and his character gets a real chance to shine since he was completely character assassinated by Kyle&Yost. Don't get me wrong, I like Kyle&Yost, but I don't like all the decisions they make. Specifically killing children. Whether they be fictional or not, I don't like it.

Hopefully, he'll get to take on his role as leader once again and get the upteenth angry Asian character in Marvel away from the rest of the younger cast.

Well, personally, I love Julian. He's been my favorite of the New X-Men since his first appearance in New Mutants Vol. 2. I hope they do more with him and his character gets a real chance to shine since he was completely character assassinated by Kyle&Yost. Don't get me wrong, I like Kyle&Yost, but I don't like all the decisions they make. Specifically killing children. Whether they be fictional or not, I don't like it.

Hopefully, he'll get to take on his role as leader once again and get the upteenth angry Asian character in Marvel away from the rest of the younger cast.

He was being written out of that already by Nunzio and Christina. They had a plan with him that involved a much more superior love story with Sophia. He wasn't a teen bad guy. He was a teen who put up walls because of emotional scarring from his family and personal insecurities. It's classic High School bully syndrome.

Again, don't get me wrong, Laura is amazing and one of my most favorite characters that I have just about every appearance of, but I loved the story being told between him and Sophia, much more. Now it just reminds me of Jean and Logan.

But yeah you can only be the classhole rich boy for so long. Characters need to grow, and C&C did a good job developing him to show despite his classholeness he's a good guy and has a good heart.

She absolutely was when you got her angry. I didn't mean she was a b*tch to the other students, but when she was facing an enemy (or her father's store lol!), she didn't care what most repercussions. My favorite thing she did was slicing at some guy with "wind blades." She was very much like Jean Grey. She had a nice facade, but hidden behind it was someone you really didn't want to mess with. She was also easily one of the most powerful characters in the book.

This is how I see it as well. Hellion is a cocky, jock, frat boy. If he were acting true to his character he would never even glance at a homely cutter like Laura. I think he had an odd fascination or sense of pity toward her that people mistook for attraction.

True, but most people acknowledge there's the potential for a good relationship to form, and it's significant in that it's Laura's first romantic feelings for someone. Laura and Julian pretty much have positive effects on each other, so it'd be nice to see them together. :smile:

She only started, as Emma stated, "following him like a puppy" after he risked his life for hers in Dallas when everyone else was willing to give up. When he was rude to her, she implied that she would castrate him. There may have been a slight attraction to him because of when she repeatedly saved him, but she didn't really gain a crush on him until he did something selfless for her.

In my opinion that greatest thing that makes the idea of a Julian/Laura relationship is the positive chemistry that the two have on each other. I say positive because they both bring out the best in each other. Unlike how Scott and Emma have turned each other into...what ever it is they are today. Laura and Julian are different. They bring out the best in each other.

Laura had lived a life full of mental and physical abuse. She was trained to kill. Yet during Mercury Rising we have Julian telling her "no killing". Sure at this time he had a naive idea that heroes don't kill. Julian wanted her to be better than she was. He wanted her to be a hero...as opposed to an assassin..a weapon...a tool. Something that Laura had never really encountered before. This plus Julian's legendary flight from Dallas to the Institute to save her caused her to experience emotions that she never had encountered before. It allowed her to grow.

Julian's life on the hand was in a way a complete opposite. Due to his family's money, and to an extent Emma's favoritism Julian saw the world through tinted glasses. Laura crushed those glasses. She showed him what happens in the real world...when you don't have money...or Emma to bail you out. Laura also brought out more of goodness that Sofia saw and started to bring out during Academy X.

Both characters had a lasting affect on each other. In the opening issues of the Quest for Magik and then after the infamous Surge kiss scene we see that both Laura and Julian have had a HUGE effect on each other.

Sure some people say that if Julian hadn't saved her post Nimrod their would have been nothing to go off. And to an extent this is true yet Elixir is the one who truly saved her...on two accounts and you dont see the same chemistry between the two. But for some reason Julian and Laura do have it.

Yes Hellion/X-23 shippers are overboard ( me being one of the major offenders on this forum) but when you get about 26 straight issues of hints and sparks...only for it to fade away. It hurts...it makes us crazy. And i apologize for our and especially my craziness.

Both characters have bright futures ahead of them...whether they end up together or not it will be a fun ride to watch.

According to my calculations of each Legacy arc being about 3 issues, and Indra's arc being Post SC, that means Hellion's story is probably going to occur in the late fall and going into early winter. And according to Carey's latest FB post he hasn't quite figured out the plot yet. So i ask you my fellow Hellion fans, what kind of story do you think Carey might write for him?

Julian's already kicked Nimrod ass before, so these ones probably have all the info from that fight and had countermeasures. I don't think it's a coincidence that his signature is a pinkish hue there and green on the first page. The bots were doing something to him.

Either way, he's not the first X-Man to lose limbs. Hopefully Madison Jefferies can whip up some nice mechanical replacements or Elixir can regrow them.

Yeah, Hellion looks pretty bad in the yellow and black especially with that jacket. He could use a hair cut too.

Believe me as soon as i get up next wed i'm making the 30 min drive to my LCS to pick this bad boy up.

I'd have to say this is bittersweet for me. Its sweet because Hellion appears, gets do some damage and its fucking Choi and Choi is fucking amazing. But bitter because yet once again Yost and Craig crippled him thus taking him out of the action...

I was pretty upset about next week's preview. Julian has gone through so much already after all, but this is just crazy. Then I thought to myself......This may be needed. Hes relied on his powers without fine tuning it for so long that this NEEDED to happen to get Julian where he needs to be.

Hellion has earned the right to be an X-man. Hellion has been through so much and he just keeps getting better and better. I never could understand why people hate on a character so great. This guy has put his life on the line for his friends and pushed them all to to become better. He survived talking shit directly to Magneto and was eviscerated by deathstrike. Hes been abandoned by the X-men and didn't stand for San Fran's anti mutant bull. Hes almost humanized X-23 and pushed himself almost to death for her. I can't wait to keep up with his next adventure in getting to know himself better. One day I strongly believe that Julian will become the next generation Canonball (If that makes sense).

I agree with infernohara to a T, but I think Hellion loosing his hands could have a positive effect on his powers, or at least regaining full control of them, maybe even capable of lifting paper clips without blowing up a room.
