Okay, I'll let my good news spill.

First a tiny bit of background:

My hubby (who used to post here all the time as Cream Filled Taco) and I have 3 kids. When I finished college, we decided that I was going to stay home with the kids, while he worked. He has a job where we were fortunate enough to even have that as an option. But, in taking that option, we had to make a lot of sacrifice, and accrued a ton of debt. Our plan was, that when our youngest went off to first grade, I would go back to work, and all of my paychecks would go towards paying off debt. It was a plan that we thought would take a minimum of 10 years. In the mean time, we were struggling, and nearly drowning in that debt.

Last year, my husband took his computer programming skills and attempted to make a game for the app store on the iPhone. First, he taught himself the programming language for the iPhone, then he spent months on end basically working two jobs. He would work his 8-5 day job, come home, and work until 2 in the morning. I don't know how any of us stayed sane, especially him. Thankfully, we were able to work together on the design phase of the game, which was actually quite nice, because I could feel like I was contributing to this endeavor that was taking up so much of our lives. And only a couple weeks after the App store opened on the iPhone, we were able to submit our game.

I don't want to have google searches go to this post, so I'll refrain from mentioning the name of the apps or company. (If you are curious, send a PM, I'd be happy to let you know all about it!!!) But we have been extremely fortunate and humbled by the response we have had to our product. We put so much care, and so much of ourselves into this product, the fact that people liked and enjoyed it, was extremely satisfying. On top of that, it has become a steady income earner, with a loyal fan base, with very good word of mouth. Our company has gained a reputation as being a solid, reliable developer that makes great games. Our second game came out in February, which has been getting amazing reviews and is steadily gaining in rank. We have a third game in the works as well.

Because of all of this success we have been able to pay off a bunch of our debt, and decidedly change our way of life. We have not changed our way of living or spending, since there is still more debt to be paid off. But, I finally feel like I am able to breathe again.

I cannot express how thankful and grateful we are. Of course, it did not come without a ton of hard work (work that continues on today), but we do not take it for granted for one second.

So, that is our good news, and our story...so far

I'm most likely cashing my federal tax return today. In part, it is planned to pay for my plane ticket to Dragon Con, a small LCD Hi-def 19" tv for my bedroom, my new flatbed scanner and $1000 to bolster the sum I want to have as a down payment for a 2009 car - probably a Toyota Yaris hatchback since the Honda Fit is just soooo damn ugly.

This is a good thread because there are days where I should really just focus on the good news because I'm very much in the middle of all the bad economic news crap that's dominating the headlines.

Anyhoo, the good news:

- I'm getting married in about a year (not so much new news to the Comm folks, but perhaps it's news here).

- My fiance's book comes out next month! I'm wicked excited and very proud of him.

- I still have my job. Everyday is a bit of a struggle, but it could be a whole lot worse.

I've also got projects lined up for just about every month this year. Nothing major, but I'm back in the cartooning saddle again.

And if this current project gets a decent reception, I'm gonna launch it as an online webstrip. Somewhere.

They're basic cake donuts, made with apple cider, then dipped in cinnamon sugar. The local apple barn has them fresh made & hot!

Yeah, I had been wondering what they were like. It actually works great, though the only part that's different from the commercials is that it doesn't suck all the pepsi out of carpet samples as well. But it will suck the water out of bowls completely. The box came with 4 big orange ones and 4 blue small ones, and says not to put them in a dryer. I couldn't resist, and one of them is in my dryer now. On the commercial they looked more like foam, but they feel more like felt or the soft side of velcro. But yeah, I think they're pretty cool.

REAL stupidness on my part when I know better about trying to pull damaged product items out of a running machine. Result was one bruise and a single stitch. A bit of blood made it seem worse than it was. I was in an out of the ER in a little over an hour. But I think arriving at 4am had more to do with that than anything.

Good news - Spring is officially here! I really enjoy winter but I do get sick of snow. And my fantasy baseball draft is this Sunday! And it looks like the New England Patriots have made some solid player additions to the team this off-season giving me great hopes for another play-off appearance this up-coming season.

And I'm also in the second round of job interviews with a local company that pays a solid to upper middle class wage. And the two brothers that applied are also advancing tothe second round.

I got my computer to work properly for the first time in ages.

I had a problematic battery on my motherboard and a malfunctioning program that was causing the machine to reset.

I haven't replaced the battery but it seems to be completely dead rather than flickering into life at times which caused the BIOS to reset and the machine to crash constantly.

The program that kept restarting itself didn't help stability either but I managed to stop it from misbehaving and the machine is running in a stable manner.
