Wasn't Billy Bob being poor and living in a trailer park just part of his image. I remember early in the series that he is later seen talking to his parents in a condo and apologizing for what the image his handlers have been promoting. Then later in Xstatix it's shown that he really has a poor family.

Did the writer just change his mind with Phat's background?

I tried flipping through my collections of X-Force and X-Statix but I've sort of given up on looking for Phat's family later on.

The best I can say, depending on the writing, maybe since they switched from Allred every now and then the descriptions got mixed up and the new artist quickly looked at the first introduction of Phat.

in x-force 118 phat apologizes to his family for having to create a fake news story about them being dysfunctional.

in x-statix 3 phat is shown with his family who have decided to live in a trailer instead of the house he bought them. his family decides that he no longer has a place among them.

his family was never really dysfunctional, they were just trashy. his pr people just played up what his family actually was. i'm pretty sure the gansta crap was fake, though.

So this thread has prompted me to read the rest of X-Statix (I had only read the collection of X-Force) and it does appear that they bought the trailer on their own will, but maybe the gangster stuff wasn't fake, because it does show him having friends who are at least gangster enough to beat him up, but that conflicts with Billy Bob originally living in a condo...

Now the question is, is his name really Billy Bob? It seems like it was originally chosen to make him sound like white trash (no offense to those of you named Billy Bob), but his parents were well-off.

I need to get the rest of the X-Force/X-Statix issues. Some really great gems.

Dead Girl should join X-Factor.

I've always imagined how these characters would fare outside of the X-Statix book for an extended period of time.

Anyway I'm completely off topic, but glad the question was answered!
