After enjoying nearly 50+ issues of the Walking Dead series , it shocks me HBO and no other cable channel has persued Kirkman about a TV series. Its got a great vibe for a series , its something we don't really have on TV at the moment and it would be awesome to see.
I envison the series as a 10-13 episode series on HBO. Which will allow the crazy gore and blood we all love. Who can ya see playing the characters ? In my head....

Thomas Jane - As Officer Rick Grimes
Why Jane ? Well his career is in a slow period at the moment and he would be perfect in this. Plus he rocks the beard he'd grow....

Evangeline Lilly - As Lori Grimes
Ok I know she's on Lost for now. But that show is due to end in 2010. So she'll need something new. And here as Lori she can play the strong wife character. Who wants to keep her son safe.

Matthew Fox as Shane.
Ok so sure I'm getting someone else from Lost. But he could play this for a season...maybe 2 if they stretch it out. And make it work.
So your suggestions people ?

My suggestion is nobody from Lost.

My suggestion is nobody from Lost.
Why ? Is there something wrong with Lilly ? I want someone as close to age with Jane than some young 20 something actress as usual. Its why I went with her.

I hate Lost. I'd rather not see another show populated with several cast members from it. There's better actors.

Except she is a 20 something actress.
Well, now, anyway.

Til August and she'll be 30 . And by 2010 , she'll be 31 once the series does end. Whats suprising is Jane is 40 . I never realized he was that old til I saw his IMDB profile.

Rick Grimes.

Yeah, everyone knows every genre show, movie, whatever must be filled with nothing but the casts of Buffy, Angel and Firefly.
As for a Walking Dead series? Well, I'm the only person on the planet who found the comic dull as dirt so I really don't care.

The Walking Dead would be and AWESOME to the max series SuperECW. It's just I would trust Bernie Madoff with my money more at the moment right now than I would with HBO making a decent Walking Dead series. HBO in 2004...they would kill with a Walking Dead series. HBO in 2009....I would not trust them adapting the Paris Hilton life story to TV.
Maybe and FX Walking Dead sereis....perhaps. In that case I would say keep the utterly horrible and truly unremarkable Tom Jane away from Rick Grimes, and give me some one that can, you know, actually act, and not snarl and call it acting. Someone like...well, maybe Trevor McKidd as Rick Grimes. Or Jason O'Mara. Someone who doesn't suck to the max like the truly awful Thomas Jane. I think you are spot on with Evangiline Lilly though. And Matthew Fox. As much as I hate Kate Austin on the best TV show ever, Lost, I think it is because Evangiline Lilly makes that character what she is supposed to be....a despicable person. And Fox make Sheppard what he is supposed to be...a leader who gets the job done in the end, but no one likes. I think him, or Matt Mulhern would be the perfect Shane.

Having read every issue of this series, and having been absolutely hooked from the first issue, I have been telling everyone who'll listen that this series needs to be made into an HBO series.
A movie version would ruin it, but a TV series would be perfect. It would be an an award winning, genre defining TV event. No doubt about it. This series would explode around the world.
Better than Oz. Better than Deadwood. Better than Rome. Better than True Blood. And they are my favourite shows ever.
Walking Dead is meant for HBO. And it just has to be made. I really hope someone at HBO reads these boards, and gets things moving. Robert Kirkman has already said he would be thrilled if this was a made into a series.
If not this, then at least make a Preacher HBO series. I know they have a movie in the works, but it just won't do it justice being condensed into a 2 hour movie.

Rick Grimes.
Great choice and much better actor than Jane.
TWD tv will need good acting since its a drama.

Unfortunately, Ryan Gosling will not do a TV show at this moment, and most likely, any moment. So, you have to find someone special from a different pool of actors.
I say Jason O'Mara. Life on Mars was pretty bad, but he was pretty good in the lead role.

I just don't think Gossling has the right look to play someone like Rick. Plus I think it should be someone little older.

Exactly, with Janes movie career slowing , I could see him doing this. It would be the type of role someone who needs a shot at exploding into the main stream again or a new actor who needs that .

Thats another reason I went with Jane. I wanted someone in his early to mid 30's.

Thomas Jane would be perfect as Rick, in my opinion. He basically played him already in The Mist.

Ryan Gosling, while a decent actor, is way too young for the role.

It's basically "Dawn/Day/Night/Whatever of the Dead", as an ongoing series, right? How could HBO screw that up?

I don't think it's teh greatest!!!11!!1 or anything, but I'd watch an HBO series if one were made.

Can I get a source for that?

.........and what's been going on w/HBO anyway? They been canceling shows and not having many good series like in the pass. The only thing I look forward on HBO now is Bill Maher/Entourage.

If he is like me its not personal, its just hatred of the show for what it is. Lost was kind of cool for a bit but then got real old real fast and honestly, I dont really like the actors on it much aside from a couple folks.

He wrote it as a reply to a letter in his letters page in an issue of Walking Dead. I'm not exactly sure on the issue number, but it was somewhere between issue 40 and 50, IIRC.
Oh, and Thomas Jane would be a perfect choice to play Rick.

I saw the first episode of Hung with Thomas Jane and I'm sorry, he's just not a very good actor. My choices:
Rick:
Aaron Eckhardt (Dark Knight - don't know if he'd do TV, but since Two Face was killed off, maybe he doesn't have any other movie offers yet).
Lori:
Jennifer Connolly - hasn't really had a hit film lately where she was the lead. Might do a TV series OR
Famke Jannsen - Jean Grey from X-Men movies
Shane: Patrick Warburton (Puddy from Seinfeld)
Glenn: I would age him a bit from the comic and ask John Cho (Harold & Kumar) and Masi Oka from Heroes to audition (probably tough to get either of them)
Dale:
Martin Sheen
Jude Cicolella (from 24, Season 5)
Andrea:
Sarah Michelle Geller
Tyreese:
Idris Elba (The Wire, guest spot on the Office)
Carole:
Cheryl Hines (Curb Your Enthusiasm) - this is a risky venture, she's known for comedies. but her look is what i imagine for the character. Outside of Curb, she hasn't really had much going other than The Waitress, so she might jump into a drama to increase her options.
Michonne: I thought Jada Pinkett at first because she can play badass but now she's doing HawthoRNe so my money's on Vivica Fox (kicked ass in Kill Bill) or Kimberly Elise (Set it Off, Beloved, John Q)
Herschel:
Kurtwood Smith (Robocop, this season of 24, That 70's Show)
Otis:
Clint Howard, played the Smog Strangler in the Seinfeld episode when Kramer goes to Hollywood
The Governor:
Willem Dafoe
Wolf-Man

You can't have all those big names because the money they'd want would be enormous.

Exactly.... you have to cast a lot of lesser known Hollywood stars and some TV stars to make the show be under budget. The costs for Dafoe , Eckhardt , Geller and Sheen would send the series way over budget.
Since my man Thomas Jane is doing HUNG now at HBO. Damn it Jane....damn it. My choices gotta change. So now here I go....new cast of WALKING DEAD.
Now with the fact if you cast a really well known actor , many will go... NO WAY. No how....so this one will throw people. But he does seem to fit that mid to late 30's age/look and isn't a well known actor here. He's had some roles.
http://i518.photobucket.com/albums/u348/WhisperRain/DarrelEdwards1CraigHall.jpg
Craig Hall- as Rick Grimes
Hall isn't as known here , he's had a few small roles in King Kong and other films. But he's more known overseas in New Zealand for his TV series work there.
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii268/stonedlemures/Neve-Campbell-14.jpg
Neve Campbell as Lori Grimes
Campbells career has slowed down as she has hit her mid 30's. She is doing TV series work...and this would allow the former Party of Five actress to have a career rebound awhile as Lori.

Personally I would like to see unknowns in the cast. I think these big name actors would take away too much from the feel of the series. Though I do think Kurtwood Smith would play a great Herschel.

I agree about unknown actors.
Not famous actors no matter how good some of them are.

Willem Dafoe should play "The Governor" just because it would make a new episode of Goblin Bloggin.
And because he is awesome.

Rick Grimes...Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Supernatural, Watchmen)
The Governor...Robert Knepper (Carnivale, Prison Break)
