Perhaps it would be helpful if we defined why we think each member belongs on the squad. For example:

Doc Ock: Intelligence/leadership
Electro: Ability to strike from a distance
Vulture: Air support
Rhino: Raw power
Mysterio: Cover and concealment
Tarantula: Hand-to-hand fighting skills

Doc Ock - Tech/Strategy/Leadership
Paper Doll - Element of Surprise/Sneak Attacks
Menace - tons of weapons/speed
Anti-Venom - Unpredictable member/affects Spidey's powers
Shocker - power hitter
Vulture - Ariel attacks

There's so many great Sinister Six line ups here. But there is one thing I am absolutely certain of: Marcos Martin should do the art on the next sinister six arc...hopefully in six parts.

Mister Mets

One for the current books.

Menace- Adds a flier, and a Goblin to the mix.

Blindside- His ability to blind others works well as part of a team. Plus, putting him in a good story helps the reputation of the annual in which he was introduced.

Commanda- Technically, she's been around as long as the Lee/ Ditko villains. There's the dynamic of her relationship with Blindside, and her robot allies will cause further complications in a battle royale.

Ana Kraven- She's a legacy, and her powers are matched well with the others on the team, negating any stealth superheroes.

Sandman- Because we need at least one guy from the original team, and his powers are pretty damn cool.

Chameleon- Probably disguised as someone else to freak out Spider-Man (IE- The Prowler, Anti-Venom.)

One small problem with Sinister Six stories is that they can make Spider-Man seem too powerful if he tackles six A-list villains at once. It tends to make his battles with the individual A-list villains (to say nothing of the B-list villains) less impressive.

The main exception is when Spider-Man gets allies on his side (IE- The New Avengers, or a combination of Black Cat, Anti-Venom, the Harry Osborn Green Goblin, the Prowler, the Puma and the other superheroes introduced in the pages of the Spider-Man books.) In that case you can have an A-list team, composed of...

Norman Osborn/ The Green Goblin- Essentially the leader. Makes Vulture a little redundant.

Venom- In addition to everything else, Spider-Man would have to deal with his Bizarro.

Mysterio- He now has ties to Osborn, and his abilities can work well in a battle royale.

Electro- Because he can kick ass without anyone else in the way.

Sandman- As noted, his powers kick ass. And if he's a good guy again, Osborn can easily blackmail him.

Doctor Octopus- He'd probably join if promised the killing blow.

In both cases, the battles should have consequences for Spider-Man. He should feel those injuries stories later. He should freak out his girlfriend 18 issues later, when she notices the scar from the time he got sliced in the chest. And in the battle between Spider-Man and his allies, and an A-list Sinister Six, there may be a casualty, to establish that these fights are big deals.

Electro - As the leader of curse, and giving fire power to the Sinister Six.

Tombstone - For recruiting members for the Sinister Six. And street level fighting power.

Jack o Lantern - Aerial Power.

Sandman- To cool powers not to be in the Sinister Six.

Mysterio - Best villian to have in the team to confuse or run from Spider-Man.

Rhino - He proved to be cool again in a great story written by Fabian Nicieza in Cable & Deadpool 37. And give more power to the Sinister Six.

I'd have my Sinister Six line-up look like this:

- Team leader: Doctor Octopus. Say what you will about non-Doc Ock rosters like Howard Mackie's Sinister Six and Norman Osborn's Sinister Twelve, but I can't imagine a Sinister Six team without Doc Ock. He's got the intellect, he's got the experience, he's got four mentally-controlled tentacles at his command, and he's one of Spider-Man's greatest villains, classic or otherwise. Besides, Doc Ock started the Sinister Six, so it's only fitting he'd take his rightful place as team leader.

- Sandman. Sure, Doc Ock and Sandman have had their ups and downs. Also, I'm not really sure Ock would want Sandman back after Mackie's run had the Sandman leading the Sinister Six and they tried to kill Doc Ock. Still, I'm sure they'd find some way to band together again on the same team. Also, Sandman's got an interesting set of powers. He's good at sneaking in, sneaking away, and shape-shifting his hands into mallets and other weapons.

- Electro. With his raw power and the more clever ways he's used his electric blasts in Mark Millar's "Marvel Knights: Spider-Man" run, he'd provide plenty of problems for poor Spidey.

- Rhino. Ever since I saw Rhino and Sandman as buddies on "The Spectacular Spider-Man", and then later as Sinister Six members, I'd love to see the comics follow the same route. Besides, Rhino's thick hide and super-strength will be vaulable to the Sinister Six. And with a guy like Rhino on the team who's not quite as clever as his teammates, that's something Doc Ock would recognize, appreciate, and exploit.

- Mysterio. Preferably Quentin Beck, too. I'm not a fan of Daniel Berkhart. Anyway, whether it's Beck or his successor, you need Mysterio on the team. He's got the special effects expertise to fight Spider-Man, he can hide his teammates to help keep them from being caught, and it's a nice aspect that the team has a clever villain who fights Spidey by challenging him more with his mind. Also, I love seeing Doc Ock and the Master of Illusion together on the same team. I don't have the heart to kick a guy with a fishbowl for a head off of the team.

- Hobgoblin. As much as I love the Vulture (and really, who doesn't?), you need someone in the air and you need someone with firepower. Unlike Vulture, Hobgoblin has both. Sure, Vulture's good at fighting Spider-Man, but with a Goblin Glider, pumpkin bombs, and electric blasts fired from his gloves, the Hobgoblin quite simply has a better arsenal. Besides, I haven't read a good Hobgoblin story in years, and any chance to get Roderick Kingsley out of retirement (or even introduce a new mystery man behind the mask) would work well for the team.

But that's not all. I have three runner-up selections, and mention why they didn't make the cut from my list:

- Venom. Spider-Man and Venom fights are always entertaining to read, but I prefer the Eddie Brock Venom over Mac Gargan. Gargan, in my mind, is cool as Scorpion and he didn't need to get changed from one villain identity to the other. Until Eddie Brock gets the black symbiote back (and classic Venom look returns too, not the new "Marvel Knights" one), Venom's off my list for consideration. Besides, while I'd love to see Doc Ock and the Eddie Brock Venom paired together on the same team against Spider-Man, I can't really see them getting along for long.

- Scorpion. Clearly he didn't make the cut for the same reasons as Venom. To me, Mac Gargan works better as Scorpion. He was also a grossly underused villain and we never got many Scorpion stories with him on a supervillain team. This would have been a good chance to get Gargan more stories as the Scorpion and also build up his experience by learning a few tricks under Doc Ock's leadership. Unfortunately, as long as Gargan is Venom, I'd rather see other villains on the Six's roster.

- Tombstone. Seriously, how cool would this be? You have a villain who is super-strong, he was a mob enforcer, and is highly resistant to physical injuries! Useful qualities, but while Tombstone has been on teams like the Sinister Twelve, there are other villains with more interesting powers or tricks that Doctor Octopus would need on his side. Besides, to me, it was either Tombstone or Rhino, and I chose Rhino for the reasons above.

What do you guys think?

Thanks for reading,
S.G.

The Sinister Six team consists of

Electro
Rhino
(Both there because they're powerhouses who aren't really that bright, don't have big ambitions, and are pretty easy to manipulate)

Mysterio
(There's just so much a master of illusions can do for your team)

Shreik
(Spider-man really needs a strong female villian and Shreik is one of the more useful of the few he has)

Jack O'Lantern
(all of the Goblin powers without any of that Goblin legacy baggage, plus he's really got a cool costume)

And the Team's Field Leader
Swarm
Because he's dangerous, smart, and he's a a friggin Nazi made out of bees!

Of course they team also has it's mysterious leader and bennifactor that sticks to the shadows and directs their crime spree towards a much larger goal.

This guy will be kept secret and not revealed until Spidey actualy manages to track the team down to it's lair.

This guy will of course be Dr. Octopus.

And yes, I do relize that it's technically seven people, but I'd have Spidey point that out himself.

"No no. Sinister Six. SIX. Didn't you guys ever watch Sesame Street? Or Even the Electric Company? With two big brained scientists on the team, I figure at least one of you should be able to count. Alright. I'm stopping this fight until one of you leaves the room. Any volunteers to sit this one out?"

now you have to defined why you think each member belongs on the squad.

Dr. Octopus is tired of working with the same hyped up villains over again. Spidey's nemesis wants new blood, people Spider-Man hasn't beaten time and time again. But nobody who has never fought Spider-Man before cares about vengeance. The secret then is to find people Spider-Man has only fought once or twice.

Doc Ock stumbles upon the stupid and impressionable Banjo. Banjo's mother has recently passed away of genetic deficiencies born from inbreeding and he is a teenager looking for direction. Our villainess gives him that direction.

Doc Ock kidnaps Ace's gal Rosie and convinces him that finding Spider-Man is the key to finding her. Ace thinks this will be easy as he suspects he knows who Spider-Man really is and Spider-Man's spider-sense won't work on him.

Meanwhile Bird-Man had been trying to form his own identity, outside of the Unholy Trio. He believes that joining the Sinister Six will help him build his reputation as a solo super-villain (he's not very smart)

Dr. Octopus convinces Razorback that the Sinister Six is now a government-based team hunting down suspected Skrulls. Razorback had long suspected Spider-Man was a Skrull.

Having assembled 4 villains, Dr. Octopus brings them to meet the true master planner in this situation, Spider-Man's greatest foe, the Big Wheel.

The arsenal in his tank-like wheel will lead the charge of villains to destroy the webslinger once and for all!

A future storyline I've got planned for some of my own fanfiction involves Doctor Octopus reassembling his old playmates in the Sinister Six for a diabolical scheme that forces Spider-Man to hastily recruit some of his own heroic allies into an impromptu super-team of his own to even the odds.

The roster consists of:

Doctor Octopus (natch)

The Scorpion

The Rhino

Electro

The Shocker

The Sandman

One will note that this roster doesn't have the same kind of tricksters or other specialists that other posters have included in their lists. In this case, the rest of the Six mainly serves as foot soldiers that can be used to distract or otherwise wear down Spidey, while the Doctor pursues his true agenda unhindered.

Michael Morbius - Who doesn't like vampire things? Could be the ring leader.

Venom - he's pretty poweful and would keep spidey on his toes.

The Lizard - Spidey would be afriad of hurting Dr. Conners, it might throw him off his game. That and I'm a fan of this character.

The Black Cat - maybe a plant in teh Sinister Six, maybe also used to throw off Spidey.

Sandman - Every villain tams needs sandman

Scorpion - I dunno , I just like him.

Can add Doc Ock in place of Scorpion if people would rather, but I wouldn't.

A close runner up was Electro simply to make SPider-Man have to keep moving more so than usual and tire him out.

Choices of "Raptor"

Michael Morbius - Who doesn't like vampire things? Could be the ring leader: All he wants is a cure for his disease and return a healed human, if he sucks human blood he approaches criminals. Did they make a fight between Mike & Dracula?

Venom - he's pretty poweful and would keep spidey on his toes:Everytime he and Spider-Man tangle Spider-Man makes Venom a boxing bag, Venom (Not Eddie, Not Scorpion, none of them) can't defeat Spider-Man or give him too hard a time in battle

The Lizard - Spidey would be afriad of hurting Dr. Conners, it might throw him off his game. That and I'm a fan of this character: This is a frightning choice and he is Peter's first friend, Peter will pull his attacks as much as he can making Lizard a great foe and member for the team (though none of the villains would know the real threat behind the Lizard to Spider-Man)

The Black Cat - maybe a plant in teh Sinister Six, maybe also used to throw off Spidey: I selected Deadpool, so I won't comment on her

Sandman - Every villain tams needs sandman:He's both Sinister and Frightful, his return is all welcomed. Did he battle S.Sable after turning bad again?

Scorpion - I dunno , I just like him:My favorite villain, but as he has duties as a Thunderbolt he won't be available as a Sinister villain

Mysterio (Beck): Illusions is always a good thing to have.

To elaborate,

Shriek- Could be the crazy glue that binds the team. I understand she has a family complex, as demonstrated in Maximum Carnage.
Rose(new,or old doesn't matter)-We need a leadership type figure, one who knows his/her way about the seedy/supervillain underworld
Paper Doll- A stealth character
Fusion- A mutant who could develop his illusionary powers into a telepathic/telekinetic force to be reckoned with.
Tracer- An unkillable tech/robotics expert(who'd eventually turn on the team for his own agenda
Hydro Man- the wild card. He's someone who could challenge even the Sentry if eh used his powers right.

I would have Roderick Kingsley return as the Hobgoblin and attempt to become the new Kingpin of crime. Retirement got boring, and he is severely ticked about Norman's rise to power. He can't get over the fact that a madman has been given the keys to the kingdom, so to speak. He's also in a mid-life crisis of sorts, and feels that as the Hobgoblin, he never accomplished his goal of becoming a powerful crimeboss in the way the Kingpin had become. He already had wealth and physical power, but never the power of criminal leadership and influence. But since the Hood stands in his way and is in league with his hated enemy, Norman Osborn, Kingsley decides to fight fire with fire and take down the Hood and his gang, as well as dethrone Osborn. Now, since Hobgoblin doesn't really get around much in terms of other Marvel U. books and characters, it makes sense for him to contact mainly Spider-Man foes since they are people he's more familier with, am I right? Thankfully, many of Spidey's foes love money (See numbers 3-6 on my list), and Kingsley has more than enough to keep them on his payroll. I would've put Mysterio in the line-up, but with his recently revealed dealings with Osborn, Kingsley would have little to no trust for him.

1. Hobgoblin (Leader. Usefull in aerial attacks, has sufficient funds for the team, has enhanced strength, speed, goblin weaponry, etc.)
2. Doc Ock (Science and technology expert, plus he has a grudge against Osborn after their confrontation in Mark Millar's Marvel Knights Spider-Man. Kingsley has also promised Osborn's technology to Octavius if he helps defeat him.).
3. Rhino (The muscle)
4. Electro (Power-House)
5. Sandman (Power-House #2)
6.Vulture (Experience and also useful in aerial attacks)

Seeking revenge on the original Sinister Six for their elitist snobbery in refusing each of them membership, a new Sinister Six has risen up in order to battle them for the right to be the official group to seek revenge against Spider-Man. They are:

1) The Looter--The super-strong, scientific genius and leader
2) The White Rabbit--the sexy mad scientist and Alice and Wonderland lover.
3) The Walrus--Powerhouse with the strength and agility of a human-sized Walrus
4) Mr. Fish--amphibious assassin and definitely "not funny."
5) Typeface--back from the dead and more literate than ever.
6) The Hypno Hustler--to provide the groups catchy and hypnotic theme song.

Finally, the old Sinister Six have meet their match!*

Maybe if Morrie could trick Bob into thinking he actually had water in his body, as opposed to being composed of light. Which might not be that hard to do... if Morrie wasn't an idiot. Either way, it takes some playing with.
