Anyway, I think both Pete and Emma are out of character in this one. Not that I expect them to be enemies, but this "look how they are friends now" is not really right for both of them.

It makes sense to me. Colossus wasn't around when Emma converted to the X-Men proper. Before that, of course, he had known her mostly as an antagonist to Xavier's dream. But, really, who is Colossus not to forgive? Him being the man who not only defected from that very same dream, but, eventually, opposed it (Acolyte). And he's a gentle soul/pacifist? No doubt he'd forgive any past discretions on Emma's part.

As for her, he came into her life as a teammate in what, at the time, was a very tight-knit core cast of characters. Astonishing had them playing off one another like family. Following that and the emotional strain they must have gone through together in losing Kitty... It makes sense that, beyond Scott, Beast, and Storm (maybe), Colossus would be the next most immediate "chum" for Emma to have.

And it's not like Colossus hasn't had this younger brother/older sister thing going with strong, intelligent, leading X-females before. Case in point: Ororo and Betsy.

I echo the people who are dissastisfied with the Emma/Colossus "friendship." Totally unatural and painful to watch. If you want to show these characters becoming friends and being close, actually SHOW it, don't have the actual characters come out and hit us with a not so subtle anvil by having them proclaim it so we're really really sure they're the best of pals.. Seemed liked forced lines to sell it to the reader, but it just didn't work. These two have not interacted or shown enough concern with one another for them to be making such huge statements like that.

And there you have what is, IMO, the weakest part of Fraction writing on this book: he exaggerates too much either way, and is too heavy handed often. His Emma is either too manipulative and bitchy or too friendly, there is no in between. And the same applies to lots of characters and situations. The blood towel of X-23 comes to mind as well as:

Excalibur rocked the 90s, it was the X-Force of the 90s if anything (ie: best X-book going), especially under Ellis/Pacheco/Jones.
