Noah Wyle has been back on the series for a few weeks as John Carter, along with Abraham Benrubi who plays Jerry. Anthony Anderson came back from the dead to play the Doctor who was there when the new chief resident Cate Banfield's son died in flashbacks that revealed her characters history with the County. Kerry Weaver and Robert Romano both appeared in the flash backs.
Elizabeth Corday returned to ER on January 15th, 2009. Four years since her exit, she appeared in a one-episode return billed as a special appearance. Dr. Corday revealed she took a position as Chief of Trauma Surgery at Duke University following a return to her native England. In the season 15 episode "Dream Runner," she returned to interview potential employees including the surprised Neela Rasgotra for positions at the University. She revealed to Neela that she lived back in England for a few years but came back, saying that Chicago was her "true home." During the interview, she mentioned having considered returning to County General briefly, but decided against it. She briefly met Dr. Simon Brenner after finishing her interview with Neela. Elizabeth told Neela it would be great to stay at County but to also leave her options open about an opportunity elsewhere.
David Morgenstern played by William H Macy returned to the ER in 2009 when his mentor, Dr Kosten, wanders from his nursing home and returns to the ER he was instrumental in building. Morgenstern reveals to the current ER staff the dramatic impact his mentor had on himself as well as on the entire hospital.
Tonight's episode of ER features Clooney Margulies and La Salle in what one assumes to be their final appearances on ER. La Salle is in the hospital where John is having his Kidney transplant.
Clooney and Margulies both work in a hospital where Nina and Sam go to pick up a heart for a patient back at county. Doug is handling the removal of the organs and it looks like Carol is the Administrator at the hospital. Susan Sarandon is the Grand mother of the kid who's organs are being harvested.
All though Doug refers to several members of the ER cast like Carrie Weaver and Doctor Donald Anspaugh he doesn't actually interact with any of the members of the cast he worked with. (Aside from Carol who is his wife and has daughters with him.)
La Salle and Wyle actually share scenes together,
What I like about the return of Clooney's and Maruglies's returns is there is absolutely no fan fair to their return. They are there and in their scenes but there is no oh wow look its Doug Ross and Carol Hathaway on the show, only from this fan watching it. The same goes for Peter Benton but he has a few touching moments with Carter and actually sits in on Carters surgery to make sure things go well.
Clooney and Margoles have the final scenes of the episode, Carol gets a call and informs Doug that both organs worked. The heart went to the 36 year old mom of a little girl and the kidney went to some Doctor.
Nicely done ER.
With Three episodes left Neela is getting ready to leave the ER and it looks like Abby Lockhart will be there to see her leave. If not in person at least on the phone.
