Great news for fighting game fans. Capcom isn't done with HD Remixes, and one fighting game that could be next for the treatment is Marvel vs. Capcom 2, the company has revealed.

Capcom has enjoyed terrific success with Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix, released on Xbox LIVE late last year and more recently on PSN. As of late last year, official figures showed the game had sold 250,000 units, shattering both day one and week one sales records.

Speaking to VideoGamer.com, Capcom's Christian Svensson, vice president, business development and strategic planning, said that while "not every game needs it", the company was "potentially" going to apply the HD Remix treatment to other fighting games in its back catalogue.

He said: "Are we done doing HD Remixes? No we're not done. But the next ones that we do will be even better, based on what we learned."

When asked if Marvel vs. Capcom 2 was a game that didn't need the HD Remix treatment, Svensson replied: "I won't say it doesn't need it. Marvel would be great to do. There's obviously a fan base for it. It's probably our most requested title. Unfortunately, I wish I had news to share on that front but I don't."

The chances of Capcom making Marvel vs. Capcom 3, however, are less likely. "I would never say never but I would say the barriers to doing that are much higher than the barriers for MvC2," said Svensson.

It's not as unlikely as you would think. Marvel said a while back that they would like to do a new Marvel vs Capcom game. And Capcom did just made that Tatsunoko vs Capcom game not long ago, and it looks like it's never coming out over here.

Damm why did i get only the Arcade X-Box 360.
I have no hard drive in my X-Box so i wont be able to play that game if it is going to be in X-Box Live.

Well...you could just save your money and buy a hard drive....

As for Marvel vs. Capcom 3...didn't Marvel sign an exclusive licensing deal with some publisher or another last year? I want to say Activision, but I'm not 100 percent sure. I know it's not Capcom, though. That's probably the "hurdles" they're talking about. They might be able to retroactively tweak MvC/MvC2, but can't make new games.

Of course, hopefully any further HD remixes they do will take less time....

I wouldn't count on a HD remix of MvC2. You saw how long it took to complete SF2. Can you imagine how long it'd take to redraw 56 characters? And don't forget how much more animation each character has compared to SF2.

It'd take entirely too long, if we ever get a Live/PSN port of MvC2, the most I'd expect would be a smoothing option.

When will they give us what we really want?

I'm talking Marvel vs DC ftw!

Almost certain to never happen legally. Trying to figure out how to split the profits would kill it before it ever got off the ground. It's not like it'd automatically sell twice as well because it has both...

Part of that was figuring out the process though, what worked and didn't work in the new style. They had everything finished, then realized that animating everything just killed the system, had to redraw from scratch. Now they know what they're doing a little more. Which isn't to say easy, but they at least have the process down now.

A Marvel vs Capcom 2 HD Remix would be really cool, but I think it would take a good long while to do as there were so many characters in it.

Yeah it was Activision. I believe the deal was that only Activision can make games based on X-Men characters. If another company makes a fighting and uses some X-Men characters that's fine.

EA use to have the rights to make fighting games using the Marvel characters. Activision seems to have the rights to most anything X-Men and Spider-Man related...and pretty much all of Marvel comic's stuff now. Sega got a few things that have to do with movie's based on Marvel characters, which may be what you're thinking of. But right now no one has the rights to use Marvel character for a fighting game.

Yeah, it took them about two years to do the Street Fighter 2 one.

Yeah, it would be easier to do an HD Remix of MvC 1.

Yeah, but as previously mentioned, part of the reason it took so long was because it was the first time they tried it. Turned out it was more (or less, depending on how you look at it) difficult than they thought, so they had to scrap the thing a time or two. Now they know a little better what works and what doesn't, so potentially it may not take as long.

Yeah, but still, it only has 17 character, and the sprites don't have as much animation. So even if they did the whole game (SF2), then started all over again...which isn't what they did, it would still be far less work then doing a MvC2 HD Remix

I would love to see a MvC3 as much as the next fan, but with the licensing of the rights situation up in the air, I realistically don't see it happening anytime soon. I do wish Marvel would grant Capcom at least a portion of the license, and allow them to re-release old Marvel games (X-Men: COTA to MvC2) for PS3.

That's my ultimate dream.

PS1 users (like myself, at the time) were shafted when it came to the "VS" games in the Marvel/Capcom series...unlike the lucky Saturn users, who received nearly perfect arcade translations of the games.

I pray that both Marvel and Capcom one day come to an agreement and give us starving fans what we want.
