Ridley Scott finds some merry men for his tights! Wait, that didn't come out right...
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I was more excited about Ridley Scott's ROBIN HOOD movie when I thought it was going to try to tell the story of the thief who steals from the rich and gives to the poor from a new perspective, painting the Sheriff of Nottingham in a positive light, but I'm not too upset. I love Ridley Scott movies... even his misfires are fascinating to watch.

We already have the great Russell Crowe in the Robin Hood role and Cate Blanchett as Maid Marian. Now some of Robin's boys have been cast. Scott Grimes, who most know from ER or BAND OF BROTHERS... but who will always be the little red-headed kid from CRITTERS and CRITTERS 2 for me... will be Will Scarlett. Kevin Durand, who was in SMOKIN' ACES, but who I now more associate with being the asshole military guy trying to kill Ben from last season of LOST, will be Little John. And lastly, musician Alan Doyle (Great Big Sea) will be playing a traveling minstrel. All per Hollywood Reporter.

I think they shot down the idea of having Russell Crowe play both Robin Hood and the Sheriff of Nottingham, so I'm curious to see who they get to fill his shoes. Say what you will about the Kevin Costner Robin Hood, but Alan Rickman was down right awesome as the Sheriff. Thoughts?

I though Will Scarlett was the traveling minstrel. I love that they cast Archie and Kerney. I don't care for Blanchett as Marian, she's too old as far as I'm concerned. I'm not a Russel Crow fan and usually avoid his movies like the plague. I may have to see this though. I'm a sucker for Robin Hood.

Nah, Allan-A-Dale was the minstrel.

Oh yeah that's right.

They should have casted Dominique Monohan as the minstrel

My perception of this movie is rapidly changing (first it's Nottingham with Crowe as the Sheriff, then he's playing both Nottingham and Robin, now it's Robin Hood with him solely as the archer. Weird), but I hope this works out. I want a serious, interesting, and not cliche Robin Hood film. This needs some good actors for the villains though. Michael Wincott could play Guy of Gisbourne again (he was one of the few highlights of the Costner version) and Mark Strong always rules a bad guy (maybe he can slap someone too, Archy style).

They're not switching up the traditional hero/villain roles now? Damn, that was the most interesting thing about the project.

It seems like it will be Prince of Thieves with a better lead actor and brilliant direction. So it will probably be watchable, but not really something I need to see happen. I'd rather he and Crowe finally make that Tripoli movie that was in pre-development before Kingdom of Heaven.
