Hey all!
I am new to the whole comic book world for the most part. I have decided on getting dive into a few series out there. I have always been a huge fan of Green Lantern, and got my hands on Green Lantern: The Sinestro Corps War Volume 1.
I haven't read all of it, but I am really getting into it! I love the story so far, and the drawings are amazing!
Anyhow, I am wondering how all of this works? I mean I want to get caught up on the series and eventually be buying the new single issues as they come out. I know this may take a little bit of time.
Anyhow, I see that this book is from Green Lantern 21-23, Green Lantern Corps 14-15, and Sinestro Corps Special.
Where do I go from here? I know there is a Sinestro Corps War Volume 2, that I will probably purchase pretty soon as well. What does the Volume 2 cover issue-wise? Also, when I've completed that, what do I do? Do I try to go back and find Green Lantern 1-20, Green Lantern Corps 1-13, and so on? Or do I just buy some issues that fill the gaps between these books and what's currently going on?
I've been out of all of this for a while and I really like the stories. I have a modest budget, but really do enjoy this series thus far. I know I probably sound silly, but I could use the expertise of those out there to really help me out!
Thanks!

I'd have to look to be sure, but I suspect Sinestro Corps v2 covers Green Lantern 24 and 25 (This was a double sized issue) plus the next 3 issues of GLC plus at least some of the individual specials/one shots that were released as part of the event (Superman Prime, Ion, Parallax and Cyborg Superman all had specials dedicated to them).
That pretty much covers the entire Sinestro Corps War, except for one tangential tie in in Blue Beetle 16 (I think?) and the Sinestro Corps Secret Files (I doubt this is included in the TPB, but someone who has it can correct me)
Were I you, after that I'd pick up the "Green Lantern: Rebirth" TPB. This was a mini series that preceded the current Green Lantern series, it launches the new direction for the book. It's more continuity heavy than the beginning of the new series, but Johns' writing style makes it pretty accessible, and it's VERY strong.
Then "Green Lantern: No Fear" which is a TPB that covers the beginning of the series, plus the Secret Files (which isn't essential, but is wonderful).
You should be able to get almost the entire series up to this point in TPB form without a problem.
When you go for "Green Lantern Corps", make sure you start out with "Green Lantern Corps: Recharge", which was the mini series that launched the GLC book.

Awesome! Thanks for your help!
I have another question, not necessarily Green Lantern related.. Is there shame in getting the TPBs? I mean, it seems like it's much easier to get caught up on a series by going this route instead of trying to track down individual issues. At the same time, I don't want to rub anyone the wrong way or anything like that.
Thanks!

Huh? No way.
If you can stand to wait, I think it's a great idea to get TPB's, especially on high selling titles like Avengers, Green Lantern, etc. Better storage, better format, cheaper, etc.
I have all single issues because I don't want to wait for an arc to be done, and that is the only reason.

Ok cool. My plan would be to get caught up and then get single issues going forward.
I know it sounded weird, but I don't want to be "that guy" who gets TPBs if that's considered "not in" or something (I probably would get them anyways but I wouldn't say anything lol)...
Anyhow, I appreciate your help! I am really excited to be getting into all of this!

If you want to get caught up with the current series on trades then get in order
Green Lantern - Rebirth, No Fear, Revenge of the Green Lanterns, Wanted: Hal Jordan, then the sinestro corps war stuff, then issues 26,27, and 28(I don't think they are in a trade), Secret Origin. Then the war of light/blackest night starts with Final Crisis Rage of the Red Lanters, then issue 36
Green Lantern Corps - Recharge, To be a Lanterm, The Dark Side of Green, Sinestro Corps War, Ring Quest(most recent trade), 27 starts where that left off.
That pretty much covers the entire Sinestro Corps War, except for one tangential tie in in Blue Beetle 16 (I think?) and the Sinestro Corps Secret Files (I doubt this is included in the TPB, but someone who has it can correct me.
Secret Files is in the Tales of the Sinestro Corps trade with the other one shots.

Does anyone know why Green Lantern #26-28 and Green Lantern Corps #21-22 aren't collected in TBP?

As long as you cry for a month, shave your head, and wash in the river, there's no shame involved at all - as long as you remembered to fast first.
Dude, it's your life and your money, read it in any format you want!
Worth noting that trades are often cheaper - the only downside is the wait.
Rage of the Red lanterns hardcover will be out soon :)
When will the Sinestro Wars softcovers be out though?
DC are really taking to long with GL books.
I get that they want to pace the different formats, but GL seems years behind at the moment.

The wait for TPB is the one thing that I find annoying about DC, it takes next to forever to get something collected. Where Marvel on the other hand is much much faster... it is too bad that I only read one book from them and collect the floppies. But personally for me I love going month to month seeing how it goes, but to catch up on past issues I go for the collected books as they are easier to find and much cheaper unless your Comic Shop really likes you and lets you read a few dozen back issues for free.

Green lantern #26 and #28 are part of the Rage of the Red Lantern Hardcover that comes out soon, June or July is soon to me :)

GLC #21 and #22 were not that good, so just track them down in single issue format if you want to read them.

Are you serious?
I have seen vol 1 softcover in my local comic shop already.
Here is the DC comics link for them. The dates are not always accurate on DC's website, but I don't believe they are that far behind putting out Green lantern Softcovers.

I only buy the hardcover collections of Green Lantern. I skim the individual issues at Borders and don't mind waiting. I would rather wait for a quality , advertising free edition. I order from amazon.com; the price is much lower and I pay no sales tax or shipping charges.

Interesting to know. One thing that I found fun about reading some of my dad's old comics are the ads. I just find many of them hilarious! Perhaps one day the ads now-a-days will come off as hilarious 30 years from now!

Where does Borders sell their comics? I can't recall seeing any there, but I suppose I've never really looked.

I'm calling shenanigans - not only does DC say its not coming out till April, but Diamond doesn't have it appearing in their catalog until March - so if it's out, it only just came out, hasn't been out for a month.
There have been several GL and GLC collections of past stories out recently though, so you could be confusing it with that.
