Dc gods rely on psychic energy from humans for their power right? The more energy the recieve the more powerful they become. Has it ever been explained how exactly this works?
Take Ares for example

If a group of followers worship him by name does that contribute any power to him?

Ares can feed of the energy of conflict even if it is not through direct worship right?

Does direct worship feed him better then just battles?

If Ares can feed off indirect battles even if the people fighting do not know he exists how does that energy divide up with other war gods? Ex. if Vikings are battling in Norway does Ares get any of that power at all or does it go to a Viking war god such as Tyr?

Or is it whichever god is closest to physically proximity?

Since there are often minute differences in war gods does it depend on the circumstances of the battle? A defensive battle the power goes to Athena while an offensive one it goes to Ares?

Is there limit merely on planet? If an alien god fed off battle like Ares would whereever his worshiper go feed him even if it was an interstellar war light years from where that god lives? Or would the god have to go to the heart of the battle? Or would a war god who lived on a closer planet get the power?

Or has noone ever really explained it and the whole thing is rather vague?

thanks

Originally, it was an issue of direct worship. When the pantheon split into the Roman and the Greek pantheons, thanks to Darkseid's machinations, they resultant fragmented gods (In this example, Pluto and Ares) were each less powerful than the unified whole.

That said, under Rucka's run the gods learned to tap into the fundamental psychic energies directly, regardless of worship. Everyone time someone fought, they fed Ares. Every time two lovers loved, Aphrodite gained strength. This is why Ares, Athena and Aphrodite became the new heads of the Pantheon, because the forces from which they derived their power were much greater than the forces at Zeus' command (who fears the lightning in this day and age?).

I don't think there were specific divisions like that. In fact, Rucka made the effort to expand the definition to be more inclusive, to the point that they were both drawing on inherent CONFLICT rather than a literal battle or war. Any time two people fought, Ares and Athena would have gained power.

I believe these gods were limited just to earth. The New Gods had a more universal view, but their power didn't stem from their worshipers as it did the Olympians...according to them, worshipers were dependent on their gods, rather than vice versa.
