hey guys
so my second cousin just had an engagement party with an open bar and the brides family is very rich
i was curious if anyone here ever drinks fine scotch, ... i had some fine good scotch, namely, 21 year old Auchentoshan single malt, 18 year old Macallum and 18 year old Jameson, Glenfidich 18 man were they smooth ... i was told by the bar tender that shots of the Auchentoshan 21 are normally 45$ at a bar and boy was he giving out big shots in wide glasses!
anyways drink safe everyone! im still a bit tipsy ... maybe not as tipsy as hellboy when he drinks with ghosts ... but i was curious if any of you guys drink the good stuff

Occasionally, yes. I wouldn't see scotch as being OT though.

Since Hellboy stories have alot to do with the supernatural, I don't think Scotch or any other spirits are truly OT. I live in Wisconsin, so drinking is pretty much all there is to do here. And yes, those are some good Scotches you mention. Glad u enjoyed without overdoing it.

Dude, sounds like one awesome evening. And I agree, scotch (or any other hooch) is not off topic.

Dewars chased with a bit of soda for propriety sake...

Well, together with beer, wine, tequila, stiff-lipped cocktails and what have you, whiskey is about the only thing which pains me to not be allowed to drink (since I can't have alcohol, yet I'm usually running around to have my cigar dipped).
I bet I would like scotch, on which some of my friends tell me, that true men drink it with no ice but with a little gollup of water to taste for loosening the drink up.
It's enjoyable to see full grown people gettin jolly from aiming their water while gathered round the drinking cabinet.
I have heard quite good albeit loose-lipped recaps on well-aged Glennfiddichs. And less expensively, Paddy seems to provide decent swallows.
Then again, if you have enough, taste or distaste might go of to having a way of its own...

Nice thread. I'm not a fan of "shots". I like to taste my liquor. I'm a Single Barrel Jack Daniel's man myself.

Laphroaig is my choice. I like the peat moss aroma/taste in it. Laphroaig and a bit of nice clean water. Yummo.

ooo I bet that Auchentoshan 21 was nice!
I too love the single malts. At the moment I have a lovely Balvenie doublewood twelve year old, Highland Park 12. Auchentoshan 10 and Mcallans 12. I think my favorite is the Balvenie - still somewhat reasonable (though it's gone up quite a bit lately) and just yummy! The best is with a good dollop of mountain stream water to open it up a bit, otherwise filtered tap water will do in a pinch.
mmmmm scotch
If you see Maija get her t5o tell you the awesome solstice ritual she has - it involves scotch!

hahaha i find it really funny that there's a consensus about Scotch not being off topic on the hellboard, why that is i have no idea
so i had a good time at the party yesterday, i didnt wake up with a headache so i guess that means i didnt over do it.
i usually drink wine but when there's high quality (free) scotch available i feel its my obligation to give them a try .... for some reason i was thinking of the scotch from ABC's Lost, remember the scene where Mr. Widmore denies Desmond a taste of his expensive scotch because Desmond isnt worth wasting even one swallow on and then on the island Charlie finds a full bottle of it and shares it with him and Hurley ...
oh and yes the Auchentoshan 21 was nice! my second favorite was the Glenfidich 18 ... apparently though i had missed out on Glenfarklas(spelling?) 25 ... im no expert in this field but the word "Glen" + "25" in a scotch, is probably amazing!

I love some fine scotch. Tragically, all the scotch I can afford is this.

We have about 10 distilleries around us within a 30-minute drive, all of which provide a good single malt. The best is from a wee distillery called Glendronach, and they do two varieties - an oak-casked malt and a sherry-casked malt, both, I am assured, superb (I'm teetotal). Hubby would also recommend an excellent island single malt from Orkney called Scapa - he's not normally a lover of island whiskies as they are too peaty in flavour, but this one is apparently breathtaking.
Oh, and a wee note - if your bottle of scotch has whiskey spelled with an 'e' it is Irish - if it is spelled 'whisky' it is Scottish. And the ONLY thing you drink with whisky is either pure, clear water or more whisky. People who mix it with soda, coca-cola or lemonade need poking with a fully-charged electric cattle prod.
Slainte!!!

Glenfiddich is my choice of scotch. Excellent single malt stuff. And many different kinds.
Their basic ain't too good, but once you start getting into the reserve stuff and older, it's fantastic!
I used to have the blended stuff, which some people rave about, and my dad likes that, but I'll take mine over others anyday.
