From what I understand, they really love it but there's a bitter irony that foreigners can make stories based on Chinese culture better than the Chinese can do themselves.

I don't really think Kung-Fu Panda is up there with the greatest movies they've made on their culture.
Call it a hunch, as I don't frequent Chinese cinema...

Actually it sparked a debate among the Chinese about how foreigners can make make a cartoon like Kung Fu Panda and owe a great respect to it's Chinese sources and how the Chinese themselves can't make a cartoon that interesting and popular.

so its a "hey we can do it too!" type deal then??
Gotta admit, Kung Fu Panda going up against China's equivalent to Captain America is a pretty amusing idea.

Not really related to the topic, but I once saw a Passion of the Christ 2 movie at a pirated DVD stall. I half suspect it was a porn movie, as I've seen other 'sequels' (Chicken Run 2, for instance) that actually were porn.
