View Full Version : Who would you make cosmic?

So in recent years we've had characters like Havok, Polaris, Marvel Girl, Darkhawk and even D-list street based hero Jack Flag leave Earth and step into the wider universe.
My question to you is, if given the choice, who would you take from Earth and put into a space based title?

In the latest Guardians of the Galaxy issue. Basically, when Blaastar stormed and took over 42, Jack hitched a ride with the GotG on their way back to Knowhere, where the doctors there managed to heal his spine and allow him to walk again. Since he would be a fugitive if he went back to Earth, he decided to stay on Knowhere.

Bucky the Space Nomad when Steve's back.
Sentry and Blue Marvel would make descent cosmic characters. They have appropriate power levels.

Sleepwalker- He's an alien from a different dimension, but he'd just as easily fit into the cosmic stories as he does on Earth.
Deathlok- Killer cyborg from Earth tearing up the cosmos on a space hog similar to Lobo or a space-version of Judge Dredd.
Apocalypse- Similar to how Ultron emerged in the cosmic-verse, but with more of a Celestial angle to his motives where he starts conquering other planets and empires. The Celestials have come calling for Apocalypse to repay the millenia long debt he owes them for the Celestial tech and armour he gained back in Ancient Egypt. He is now their own slave and must conquer worlds to weed out the strongest in order for the Celestials to cleanse the weakness out of the universe.

I think its much more interesting seeing a street level hero become cosmic.
People like Sentry,Thor are already cosmic level powers.
It would be interesting to see someone like Bucky that depends on his skills to get powers that take him into the cosmic world. It would be a huge difference even being a small cosmic powered compared street level hero.

Also, if you combine Scott Summers and Lana Lang, you get Scott Lang, aka Ant-Man. Coincidence, conspiracy, magic or some fourth option?

Besides my initial choice of Songbird, I would also vote for Monica Rambeau. Bump her back to her prime energy manipulation levels and settle on one name going forward be it Photon or Pulsar. Personally I kind of like Pulsar best, which sounds more feminine. Maybe Phyla takes the name Photon now that the original Quasar is back.
It would also be interesting to see a new character or an existing, neglected character take the Binary mantle that Ms. Marvel previously carried. I liked the look of the character, very Firelordesque, and the power set was cool.
The Blue Shield and Wundarr the Aquarian could also use the cosmic treatment.
I also agree with the call for a return by Jack of Hearts, who has one of the coolest costumes in comics.
Finally let's get Quasar, Wendell Vaughn, back into space. Hopefully alongside Nova and Darkhawk.
I am thoroughly enjoying the Guardians of the Galaxy and would be very interested in another cosmic team led by Nova and Quasar along with some of the aforementioned names.

Apocalypse and his Four Horsemen:
Maelstrom- Vastly powerful being with awesome kinetic energy powers. Seeing this would be conqueror under Apocalypse's rule would be great, as it's usually Maelstrom giving the orders instead of taking them. But thanks to Apocalypse's power upgrade due to the deal with the Celestials, Maelstrom will have to deal with being 2nd in command.
Titannus- The most physically powerful Skrull that's ever been seen, Titannus has strength greater than that of the Hulk, and is one of the MU's most underated, yet powerful bricks. Titannus would relish the chance to cut loose under the rule of Apocalypse and use his great strength to smash any and all opposition to Apocalypse's agenda.
Midnight Sun- A superb master of hand to hand combat, MS has shown to be quite a powerful and formidable opponent. Skillful enough to hang with Silver Surfer in hand to hand combat, despite Surfer's superior strength, and good enough to even sneak up and ambush Surfer, despite Surfer's cosmic senses. It'd be cool to see him revamped and with an updated look and power-set as Apocalypse's cosmic assassin.
Trauma- Another long forgotten (and quite dead) character, Trauma is an alien from the warlike Troyjan race. His father, Armageddon, is a Surfer level powerhouse, and his son isn't far behind him. Trauma has kicked the living crap out Hulk before, but in their final fight lost the battle, and ended up being killed by the Hulk. Apocalypse makes Armageddon a deal to resurrect his son in exchange for his son's services. Reborn, Trauma is Apocalypse's personal war machine, with all the Troyjan and Celestial-tech weapons, plus his massive strength and durability, at Apocalypse's disposal.

Agreed. Monica should be space-based, and Wendell should be space-based and called Quasar again.
One Avenger that should not be space-based (but has been in the past) though is Living Lightning. It makes no sense - without matter, the lightning wouldn't do anything. It couldn't travel.
It would also be interesting to see a new character or an existing, neglected character take the Binary mantle that Ms. Marvel previously carried. I liked the look of the character, very Firelordesque, and the power set was cool.
Why have someone else? Just give Carol back the Binary powers.

Definitely agree on Wundarr. Blue Shield less so, but I can see where you're going with it.

Along with Hollywood (Simon Williams), Phoenix (the future one), Firelord, the future Sorceror Supreme (who had Strange as his Ancient One) and Talon as far as I can remember. Thanks for the clarification - it's been a long time, and I'm way too lazy to research this stuff. Nonetheless, even if Krugarr (thank you for the name) wasn't a member that's still an insanely powerful team. Wonder Man + Phoenix-wielder + Spirit of Vengeance + Herald of Galactus = crazy power. Strangely, Krugarr doesn't make it feel any more ludicrous. It's just more of the same.

Liger in space would be brilliant. Any of the Warheads would be. It might actually be the one place that they'd fit best in Marvel right now. It'd be good.
I've always thought it was a bit of a shame that Brubaker brought Nightcrawler back to earth when he left so many other X-Characters in space. Nightcrawler is practically MADE to be some kind of space pirate. He'd have worked really well with the Starjammers.

Apocalypse in space would be better served, IMO, in a similar style approach to Annihilation.
4 minis, followed by a 6 part core story, with the end results being that Apocalypse returns to Earth a much more potent and dangerous foe with a much larger role as one of the heavyweight villains of Earth, up there with the likes of Doom and Magneto.
Each of the 4 minis could focus on the Four Horsemen, instead of the usual hero focused stories leading into the main.
But if I was writing it, I'd leave the Kree alone. They've had enough of a beating. I'd probably focus on the Shi'ar, the Badoon, and the Nova Corps, as well as the Celestials, the Eternals and the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Seeing an unleashed and powered up Apocalpyse tearing up the Imperial Guard, the GoTG, and the Eternals of Titan would be sweet.
IMO, Apocalypse isn't given the respect he deserves and needs to be shown as one of, if not THE most powerful mutant there is, and perhaps a story like this would elevate his status to where it should be.

Count me in as wanting to see a return of Midnight Sun. While we're at it, I'd love to see Star-Thief (http://marvel.wikia.com/wiki/Ditmal_Pirval_%28Earth-616%29)return- given the Inhumans' participation in War of Kings, and the fact that both Star-Thief and Midnight Sun were last seen hanging out with them, it would be a great time to bring both characters back on the cosmic scene.
I'd also really love to see Maxam return. All of these guys are basically cosmic guys already, though.

Monica Rambeau and Ms. Marvel (Carol Danvers) are the 2 most logical choices. They aren't properly used on Earth and both already have experience in outer space.
It's tempting to also put Sentry and Blue Marvel there, solely based on their powers. But they don't really have a reason to leave earth.

I do like the idea of Monica Rambeau becoming a more space based hero but I do like her ties to earth. Carol does make sense as well with her ties to the Starjammers and Captain Marvel/Kree but I like the idea of a strong female earth based character being in a lead role and she has been doing fine in that role recently.
I wish they would give Monica Rambeau a larger role in the MU in any capacity really. Roger Stern made her such a strong character I just can't believe how no one since him has seen her potential. I mean Mantis has had a lot more face time in MU than Monica. I think the biggest problems for her over the years has been the changes in her codename have effected the character.

Knights of Wundagore would make sense and could be neat. We've already got the High Evolutionary as a cosmic character.

The Man-Beast could definitely work as a cosmic character, even if he does have a particularly phallic nom de guerre.

So in recent years we've had characters like Havok, Polaris, Marvel Girl, Darkhawk and even D-list street based hero Jack Flag leave Earth and step into the wider universe.
My question to you is, if given the choice, who would you take from Earth and put into a space based title?
Easy as pie. The FF.
They should be out there, taking care of earth. Traveling the final frontiers.

Man-Beast is already a cosmic character, more or less, as one of Adam Warlock's arch-nemeses. He could certainly stand to come back, though.

I would love to see Clint Barton pulled out of the Ronin costume and end up teamed up with the Guardians as Hawkeye. I could see him butting heads with Peter Quill and drinking beers with Rocket Racoon. I wouldn't want him elevated to cosmic levels (well, maybe a few Yondu arrows would be okay), but it's always great to see Hawkeye and his attitude up against cosmic threats that could wipe him out with a blink. (The Avengers annual where Hawkeye dupes the Grandmaster with a carny trick is one of my favorite Avengers stories ever.)

Pretty much for the same reason I said Molecule Man wouldn't be particularly effective in space, Songbird would be completely useless out there.
Vacuum = no molecules (for millions of miles) and no way for sound to travel. Oh, and no-one to hear you scream.
Space actually has quite a bit of debris in it. It just does not have any gas surrounding each piece(i.e. asteroids, comets, and smaller particles that get pulled into the larger ones), which is what the vacuum is in reference too. And the closer you get to a planet or astral body the more of them are there. Since most cosmic stories are near some sort of astral body, planet, or other astronomical body. And there are always stars to pull hydrogen and helium out of to work with.

I agree completely about there being molicules in space. There are certainly less in any given area of space than there would be on Earth in the equivelant space, but it is there.

Well yeah, I was exaggerating somewhat (On a comics fan forum? The nerve!), but there still isn't a great deal. Unless Reece is on another planet (in which case he might as well be on Earth) or happens to be in the middle of an asteroid belt, the amount of debris he could manipulate would enable him to create a particularly deadly toothpick.
Energy-manipulation powers are a lot more useful in space than matter-manipulation ones. Except sound and vibration-based powers. Songbird would still be about as effective as a chocolate fireguard. Same thing with Siryn, Rictor (powered) and even Dazzler. Actually it's be quite funny seeing Dazzler in space. "I could make a really effective laser beam out here. If I could hear anything at all."
Havok on the other hand should be tremendously effective in space, absorbing solar energy that isn't filtered by atmosphere.

I would like to see Songbird step up at some point soon and become a bigger power in the Marvel U, be it as an actual Avenger or out in space.
In space...no one can hear you make sonic constructs....
I think SPACE WOLVERINE would be awesome!!!

The hulk. Since he is totally being wasted by loeb on earth. Give him back his wwh level powers and green scar mind and reunite him with Warbound and go into space as cosmic freedom fighters and first thing first back to skar and kick his evil sons butt.

NO! Keep him on Earth, pleaseokaythanksbye!
Do you want him on earth because you like him, or do you want him out of the cosmic characters hair because you like those characters?
