I totally called on Newsarama El Diablo tanking... not that it was a shocker.

The economy is hitting hard, but this really could be a lot worse.

God, the Wildstorm sales are dismal.

Clearly it's the perfect time to launch minis starring The Human Flame and The Tattooed Man.

Clearly it's the perfect time to launch minis starring The Human Flame and The Tattooed Man.

Human Flame bears a slight resemblance to Dan DiDio, and is likely to die in the comic.

It'll be a sleeper hit, mark my words.

THAT is a good point.

That's an issue of mine. Clearly, DC sees anything as 'envisioned by' Grant Morrison as marketable, when it's pretty obvious not everything he touches turns to gold.

Well, the problem isn't the characters - it's the marketing.

Marvel takes a D list character - Hercules - makes him a big part of a Big Event, and then has an IMMEDIATE spin-off ready to go with a recognized creative team.

DC, meanwhile, takes a D-list character, makes him a big part of a Big Event, and then has a spin-off sometime six months later with a creative team that they might announce one day.

There's nothing wrong with Tattooed Man, Human Flame, etc... but in the market DC and Marvel have created - a market in which everything is dependent on how 'important' a book is - a book featuring either of them needs to be extraordinarily well-marketed with a big name creative team on the cover of the issues, and I don't think they've done a great job on them thus far.

Obviously coming to this party quite late, but I just now got the JUST RELEASED tpb for Final Crisis, and would actually be somewhat interested in a Human Flame or Tattooed Man mini, if the creative team were right, but it's now, what, nearly a year and a half too late?

The above comment about timing is definitely correct.
