I am in the process of sorting/alphabetizing, & filing all my comics in 1 room on a series of 8 foot wooden shelves from IKEA. I have 2 of these shelves full of my DC & Marvel comics. 2.5 shelves are filled on the 3rd one. SO I came across books like:
Angel & the Ape, Young All Stars, Congorilla, Black Orchid, Cosmic Boy mini, Deadshot mini, Enigma, El Diablo, Hardcore Station, Haywire, Hero Hotline, Nevada, Peacemaker, Plop!, Prisoner, Ragman, Silver Blade, etc.... then I came across this issue. The I came across this issue, The New Teen Titans Keebler Drug Awareness Issue. I had to stop & reread this. The story still stands the test of time. Its great! Reminds me to a lesser extend of those revolutionary Adams/O'Neil Green Lantern and Green Arrow early 1970s issues.
Anyone else remember this?

I remember reading it, but I don't think that I bought a copy. One odd detail that stands out is that Dick Grayson had a new costume that was never seen again. At the time, in the regular Titan title, he had given up the Robin identity and had not yet become Nightwing. I guess Keebler couldn't stand the idea of having him fighting crime in civilian clothes.
...This is the one where George had to redraw Robin as the "Protector" or some other faux hero we never saw again, because Dick had ceased being Robin at the time this Keebler giveaway was commissioned, right? I think I have that stored away in the boxes, and as I wash down my twice-daily vicodin with a rum and Dr. Pepper.

Dick had to be redrawn as The Protector because someone else held the rights to to the Robin character.
"One problem cropped up with the book as Wolfman and Titans artist George Pérez began work on it: Robin, the leader of The Teen Titans, couldn't be used. "This book was being sponsored by Keebler, and Robin was already licensed by Nabisco. So I came up with a new character, The Protector. We already had the art done, so Dave Manak did all the corrections to turn Robin into The Protector. He looks pretty much as I envisioned him, except where his costume is purple, I had originally wanted black."

The really great I like about the above is that I have a temp plate that allows me to print all that info on stickers. The stickers then go on individual plastic dividers. So I can instantly find a DC holiday special for example. I do not have to dig around in a long box. This is all displayed in 1 of my bedrooms. It has wall to wall 8 foot wooden shelves which contain my comic collection.

...Lemme guess: this was the story about a super-powered Afro-American roustabout who fought crime that occurred in travelling shows?

Nope. I pulled those issues in question I I found no robust afro american fighting crime. You must be confusing this with another story dude!
