So...has anyone heard whether or not Joe Casey is finished with Youngblood? I know Liefeld is back on the book full time as of issue nine, but is this a permanent deal?
I ask because I really enjoyed issue eight...but it didn't provide a full conclusion to the story arc! Also...I remember Casey saying in a few interviews that he had significant long term plans for the book. Since the announcement that Rob was coming back...I've heard nothing from Casey's end. From what I could tell, Rob isn't continuing Casey's story. Will Casey finish his work at some point later on...or did Liefeld just give it the ax completely?
I hope Casey eventually returns. It's Rob's book and I respect his right to play with it...but Casey's seemed to really be hitting his stride as of around issue six. It'd be a shame if he's gone for good.
(And seriously...issue eight was a strong read...)

Yeah the timing kind of sucks but the book had problems. Rob's fans weren't digging it and not that many people were willing to get over their preconceptions about Youngblood to give it a shot. I used to get a lot of raised eyebrows whenever I bought it. Also it didn't help that only 6 issues came out last year.
After this last issue I wish they gave Casey and Donovon an issue or two to resolve their storyline but like you said it's Rob's book and he has the right to take it in whatever direction. And to be honest it's probably what the longtime Youngblood wanted. So I'm hoping Donovon and Casey do their own book. I think they could do some great work together.
Anyways to answer your question it seems like Rob is taking over and Casey is not coming back. As far as I know Casey hasn't said anything about it.

It's a bummer...but I can see how the book never really found it's niche.
It's a significant departure from what Liefeld's hardcore fans have come to expect. But it's also Youngblood...so...yeah...more discerning comic book readers tend to scoff at it.
Personally, I liked it because Casey seemed to be making an effort to meld Youngblood's original premise with Alan Moore's approach. I maintain that Moore's Youngblood is one of the better classic super hero books published in the last two decades (all two issues of it).
Ahh well. Hopefully Rob and Joe parted ways on good terms.
