Thread title is self-explanatory. For starters, I'd say Kate Beckinsale is at the top of the list. I've really enjoyed her performances in the Underworld franchise & Van Helsing, she really fits into the action heroine type genre.

Laura Linney...

She's amazingly versatile. I've admired all of her work that I've seen, especially "Mystic River", "the Truman Show", "Love Actually" and "You can Count on Me". I'm glad she gets regular work but I'd love to see her get some juicier roles too.

Man, this is a tough one, there's so many to choose from but for a start:

Merryl Streep (she's just insanely great in everything isn't she?)

Mary-Louise Parker (She's just phenomenal in Weeds and is good in most films I've seen her in)

Judi Dench (Yup)

Amy Adams (Young actress but with a string of great performances in Junebug, Doubt and Enchanted she certainly earns a spot on this list)

Glenn Close (Always good)

Marisa Tomei (I've never understood why she isn't a bigger star. Maybe it's because she's so often better than the films she's in)

Laura Linney (Reliably excellent)

Kathy Bates (Mercy!)

Kate Winslet (Eternal Sunshine alone earns her a place on this list)

Cate Blanchett (Seriously, have you seen I'm Not There? I can't believe she lost to an underwhelming Tilda Swilton performance for best actress)

While I love Kristen Bell,a nd more, and respect the talents of Meryl Streep, and more, the best actor, ever, is without a doubt in my mind Kate Winslet.

Swinton's performance was pretty great, I thought.

Swinton's performance was pretty great, I thought.

Don't get me wrong, I think she's a good actress but she had such a small part in Michael Clayton. Even if it was bigger, I still don't think it was anywhere as good as Blanchett was.

Maybe the voters got Swinton and Blanchett mixed up. It seems easy enough to do.

I second Kate Winslet. Her ability is just staggering. In a few years she will be mentioned in the same breath as the likes of Meryl Streep and Glenn Close. She is amazing in virtually everything she does. She'd probably have an Oscar already, but she's so consistent that voters figure there's no rush to give her one, she'll always be back next year. If fact she's so talented, I think she's actually underrated in the looks department. She's gorgeous.

Laura Linney always brings the goods.

I really like Naomi Watts. I used to think she was a slightly less talented but better looking Nicole Kidman. Now however, I think she's surpassed her in both.

She doesn't do many movies I'd actually sit through, but Isla Fisher is a very talented comedic actress.

Sara Rue is great, but I don't see her in much.

Jenna Fischer is excellent too. She can be heart-breaking with just a look.

Amy Acker is becoming a fave. She's far more versatile than I would have thought from when I first saw her on Angel.

She is a fantastic actress. Will be considered one of the absolute greats by the time her career is over.

As as aside, when Titanic came out, I had the biggest crush on her. I probably would have left my ex-wife if she had asked me to run away with her.

A brilliant actress of Russian Decent from Minneapolis Minnesota. She's worked along side Gary Cole and Malcolm McDowell and she stars in Medium where she always steals the scene. Look for her to shine in a new movie based on Jodi Picoult's novel "My Sister's Keeper" Her and Abagail Breslin will most likely be the only thing good about this movie.

Maybe, but I remember thinking that I knew Marisa a lot better after seeing that film.

I resent that. I, um, knew a girl who looks a lot like a blond Emily Deschanel.
Bones has some amusing character moments, but every episode is utterly forgettable.

Kelly Carlson is quite good (and amazingly hot) on Nip/Tuck, but was a crappy actress in everything else I've seen her in. Granted, that's only two things, but still..

Jennifer Jason Leigh!

The woman is fearless and completely devoted to her work.
Meticulous in preparation, and willing to go to the heart of her character's truth, regardless of her own sense of self. I'm always in awe of her, and if you look back to "Fast Times" and the films she did right after, you can see it's always been there. She continuously chooses really interesting material like the King is Alive and Synedoche, NY, and is a great example of what acting really is.

The pic with Kristen Bell is from my favorite work of hers just above Veronica Mars, REEFER MADNESS: The Movie Musical. It was on Showtime, she is great in it.

Anne Hathaway

Anne Hathaway is definitely my favorite actress and I've had a crush on her ever since I saw the commercials of her from "The Princess Diaries." Though I've only seen her in "Get Smart" (as well as in "Havoc"...well the GOOD parts of "Havoc" ) from what I can tell she can do drama and comedy equally well and I think she has a really great personality. I've no doubt that she will be an A-list celebrity and actress in the future and command much respect.

I actually was fortunate to have been in Ms. Hathaway's presence 3 times in my life, as she attended NYU for at least a semester and had classes in my department's building. On two occasions, I met her outside of the elevator and I was totally shocked to see her. I mean, dry mouth, sweating palms, elevated heartbeat, the whole works. Beautiful woman, just absolutely stunning.

One instance, however, I'll never forget (seriously, I'm shaking my hands as I type). One time the elevator was broken, and we were told that we had to use some other elevators on the other side of the building to get to the upper floors. However, Anne was able to find and open the emergency staircase, allowing students to go to their classes. The best part of that whole experience, however, was the fact that I got to directly walk behind Anne (who was wearing this tight pair of jeans which hugged every single contour) as she was going up the staircase. Let me tell you, that picture of her ass up there does not, I repeat, DOES NOT, do her justice.

Speaking of my other favorite actresses...
http://yummycelebrities.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/06/zhang-ziyi-0002.jpg

Literarly, my whole life changed after seeing Zhang Ziyi. The day after watching Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, I made up my mind to study Chinese and the Chinese culture, a path which I have continued all the way up into graduate school. I figured that if I was ever going to meet a Chinese woman as beautiful as Ms. Zhang, I had to be thoroughly prepared. Though I've found other deeper reasons for pursuing my the study of China, let's just say there's a little bit of me that still wants to show off all those years of practice to Ms. Zhang  .
