I barely read comics but I used to when I was a lot younger. I just keep my ear to the comic world bu lurking these forums. I just got done reading Marvel Zombies vs. Army of Darkness. I really enjoyed Doom in this scenario. Helping out the heroes and being a hero. I was wondering if anybody could point me the way to some comic issues where he has been in the situation before. I'm not too familiar with Doom but I would like to be. Thanks in advance.

Right off the bat, I would recommend checking out FF #116. When Reed was captured by the Overmind, the FF were in need of a plan and a new leader. Sue went calling on the Latverian consulate and persuaded Doom to step into the role. Written by Archie Goodwin, John Byrne has said it is the only other story besides the Lee/Kirby run that he used to base his characterization.

Another one would be his last issue of the Astonishing Tales run in a story called "Though Some Call it Magic" in issue #8. This is the Gerry Conway story expands on what we know about his mother and how he tries to free her soul from the netherworld. Recently, it's been reprinted in B/W as a part of the Essential Super-Villain Team-Up and better still, in fully restored color in the Gene Colan tribute issue that came out last fall.

From that, you can pick up Roger Stern's Doctor Strange/Doctor Doom: Triumph and Torment, which follows up on the AT#8 story. This has never been reprinted but pops up a lot on eBay. He also helps out Kitty Pryde when she starts to lose control of her powers and is in danger of just sort of fading away into nothing in the limited series "Fantastic Four vs The X-Men".... he also tries to play some mind games with Reed at the same time.

There was a multi-part battle to save the Heroes Reborn planet from Galactus and his gang of heralds and Doom was instrumental in forming a plan to defeat them by using his chronotech and watch all the failed scenarios play out. This took place in all of the 12th issues of the HR titles, Avengers, Captain America, Iron Man and Fantastic Four. Those are out in trades but it might be cheaper to pick up the back issues.

The Doom 2099 series would be something to check out but it's never been collected. Probably more than any of the 2099 characters, he was considered a catalyst of change in getting rid of some of the worst elements of the corrupt megacorps that were running everything in the future.

Then there's also the graphic novel "Emperor Doom" in which he takes over the planet and proves to be a remarkably capable administrator.

Also never collected is the early run of what is called volume 3 of the Fantastic Four. Commonly known as the Reed in Doom armor storyline, he actually shows up Reed in this one, who is started to succumb to some kind of latent, evil influence caused by the armor. Reed and Victor had teamed up to beat the Dreaming Celestial and as payback, Reed was encased in Doom's armor and Doom was exiled back to the Heroes Reborn planet. These would be issues 25-31, written by Chris Claremont with Sal Larocca art.

There was also a recent "What if : Secret Wars" that picks up the story where Doom had just beaten the Beyonder and gained all his powers. Only this time, the Enchantress warns him about the Beyonder being hidden within Klaw's form. It goes off from there and while not exactly heroic it does a good job in painting his character in shades of gray, ruthlessly eliminating his opposition yet keeping things in order on the home front. It's is sort of a tribute to Watchmen at the same time. Probably one of the best solo stories in a while.

Edited to add: I got the mini with Army of Darkness vs the Zombies ... and you're right that Doom is definitely on the heroic side it that one in making sure the Zombies don't get use of his time machine IIRC. Funny thing about that is that Reed thought it was a good idea that once his family got infected, it was better to go full out zombie and infect the rest of the FF. Yikes! Not sure if this was in this story or not but it was kind of disturbing that She-Hulk was dining on one of the kids. I think that's one of the reasons I decided the novelty of the zombie craze was starting to wear thin for me.

not rly a hero role but u might want to check out Books Of Doom.

Its a retelling of Dooms origin (from kid upto ruler of Latveria) written by Brubaker.
Its one of my favourit books and shows his motives for the things he does.
