Dear friends,
I often go by my pen name 'Brocca', my real name though is 'Jörn Krug' (Jörn pronounced exactly like the verb 'to yearn'). Feel free to "google" me--a very incomplete publishing list will appear as the top entry.
Since the mid-Eighties I work professionally in the German comics business (alas, it's not an industry over here); over the time period of roughly twenty-five years I've worked for every major German comics publisher and some of the minor ones, too.
I did everything in comics you can possibly imagine--also drawing, coloring, editing, translating and lettering, I'm doing mainly writing nowadays.
I had a comic book out in the Nineties called 'Cool Patrol', a satirical super-hero series. And for a note: I handlettered the complete German edition run of Gaiman's 'Sandman'.
Here's hoping you like a recent piece of artwork,
greetings--

Hallo and wilkommen Jörn. Hast du einen Comicspace Benutzerprofil?

Dear LewMoxinsghost,
if I knew what kind of animal a 'Comicspace Benutzerprofil' is I'd certainly get me one,
in the meantime I refer everybody to the above bio,

My attempt at German... sorry about that. You'd think after three years here I could be understood more clearly.

Dear LewMoxinsghost, dear comicracy,
you guys strike me as characters from an old Kanigher war comic.
After all, German is not such a difficult language, krautsakrament--over here it's even spoken by little kids.
Wouldn't it be a proper super power to speak and understand any foreign language?
But then again, would you want to listen to anybody speaking around you in a crowded subway car,
greetings--
Welcome to CBR Showcase, Brocca. The Fantastic Four drawing is really great, I like your sense of humor. Please post more some time, even though I've googled you, it would be cool to see more.
Be well,

Your a good artist brocca, though the shadow under The Thing's nose kind of makes it looks like he has a nose bleed.

Dear Jaye,
thank you for your welcoming words. Promised, I will post more on occasion. I like the Comic Book Resources Forum a lot.
Dear Gumbo Maximillian,
Thank you, too. I rectified the Thing's nose bleed--who needs editors when you're around!

as just a statement of the artistic choice comes this commissions work I did in December--it's still Barbara G. I prefer as Batgirl!

Did you do the coloring on those pieces as well? I like 'em both they have an independent feel to them.
brocca
02-18-2009, 04:02 PM
Dear cosmoboy,
thank you for asking.
Yes, of course I do the coloring myself, or rather the computer program does it on my whim. I keep nudging it a little with the mouse, I don't use a graphic tablet.
Yet I'm also fully versatile with any color on actual paper or artboard--watercolor, distemper, acrylics, you name it.
The computer coloring program to me is just like any other tool and I like to make the art look as if it were handcolored, thus the independent trait you detected.
It's just a personal note so my style is distinct and recognizable.
I'll post some more art soon, please come back to look for it, thank you.
Say 'hi' to Phantom Girl from me,
greetings--

Dear friends,
adjoining is a published page I did for the monthly German anthology comic magazine 'ZACK' in oh-four.
'ZACK'-magazine has derived out of famed belgian 'Tintin'-magazine which was aimed at catholic juveniles and sported mainly adventure comics in a semi realistic or realistic style. 'Tintin'-magazine, named after Herge's 'Tintin and Snowy the dog', long went under.
'ZACK', in the nineteenseventies published weekly and bi-weekly, miraculously survived in its second incarnation as a monthly magazine aimed at a mature readership. Series like Moebius' 'Blueberry', Desberg's 'Empire USA', Hermann's 'Jeremiah' and even funnies like 'Spirou' are published intermittently in monthly installments.
For an anniversary issue I was asked to do a story in a style reminiscent of the nineteenseventies,
here is a page,
greetings--
Its cool! And does have a 70's feel. Nice work.
I have this book, about the fonts and colors used for the past 100 years in design, and its a great help when someone asks for "something art deco" or "something 70's."

Kudos to you. Not many people can draw motorcycles well.
And Jaye, what's the name of that book?
Hey Bret, its called: Retro Graphics: A Visual Sourcebook to 100 Years of Graphic Design.
Amazon here:

Dear friends,
thank you very much for your kind words.
Not only can I draw them I can also crash motorcycles well. For evidence of that I carry around excess metal in my shin that'd surely earn respect, howyadoin, of that certain fellow countryman of yours who is said to be the best at what he does. The titan-adamantium alloy in my leg trips every airport alarm and I'm thinking of building a decoder in my knee-cap to unscramble the pay TV signals I'm receiving on that end.
But just between the two of us, dear howyadoin, for drawing motorcycles I have a trick up my sleeve--for effect I am usually putting an extra shot of high octane gasoline into the drawing ink, not to mention that other shot of high-proof tequila I use to wetten my gills with. That works one hundred per cent, I assure you.
Dear Jaye, thanks also for your input, indeed I am old enough to draw from memory when I portray the nineteenseventies and I am not yet too senile for being able to recollect those by-gone times.
The problem I'm facing lately is another one entirely--sometimes my drawn ink lines come out more trembly than I'd wish.
I have to make up for that with experience; also I train to steady my drawing hand by building card houses like the pistoleros of the Old West. Massaging women in all the right places also helps to keep the fingers flexible, and I'm not talking of the hardware department at Sears, although I did that there, too.
Attached to this post comes another page of the above mentioned comic published in said anniversary issue of 'ZACK'-magazine.
This time half a page for you to see how comics were drawn traditionally in Europe, mainly in Belgium and France, from the nineteenfifties to the mid-eighties.
Only half a page was drawn horizontally on a sheet roughly the same size as the American original page format and then clipped together with another one to form the unit of a single page.
Posted here is the upper half of the first page,
greetings--

Quite a tale, Brocca. How bad was the accident?
I know what you mean about the trembly lines, though. I'm running into the same problem myself.

Dear howyadoin,
honestly, I cannot remember. Luckily when I woke up in the hospital both my legs were still there but I limped for awhile. It's quite okay now, thank you.
Nowadays I'm sticking to fast driving my Mercedes car without the seat belts fastened--it doesn't feel quite like riding a bike but it isn't bad either.

Dear friends,
I cannot keep my fingers off of the joystick--attached illustration features a lead character from my nineteenninety-eight German comic book 'Cool Patrol'. Sales exceeded those of Superman and Batman in the given month only to be surpassed by Spawn and The Simpsons who were always running strong in Germany.
Although I'm no longer doing it fans still inquire for a resumption of the series at conventions.
If you want to know what the book was like please go ask Howard Chaykin who is in possession of a copy.

The multiplicity of broken limbs in your pictures is a little worrying, though! Be careful with your drawing hand!

Actually my sister's not--she broke her wrist sitting on the toilet trying to draw Spider-Woman.

Dear veryvery,
thank you for your kind words,
while I'm sitting at my drawing board in my swanky loft studio space overlooking downtown Hannover and feeling happy I unfortunately cannot keep from grimacing. But I'm more or less on my own up there--there are no witnesses!
How do you know I am pulling faces?
Maybe, veryvery, you'll find comfort in the thought that I love you, too.
