I'm having a hard time choosing. I really like this in black and white, but the brutal truth is that most publishers won't even look at black and white series anymore (with a couple exceptions), and color sells more.

Do I stick to the black and white, or go color?

Colors are by the same artist.

It looks so very beautiful in black and white. That's the clear choice aesthetically.

Color. If I was in a comic book shop, that's what would appeal to me the most looking at the two pics you have here.

(oddly I was expecting to choose the b/w because I love black and white and use it a lot in my photography, but no, I prefer the color for this)

*afterthought. I think the B/W looks too stark and contrasty. The color version softens this and is more interesting, drawing you into the picture. Visually, it's more appealing.

I like the color, and its a muted palette anyways.

hmmm well I like the coloured version better between the two. I feel it conveys the "film noir" look better.

Color. Palette is nice, and the last panel in particular works better in color (i.e., eye drawn to yellow light which is indistinct from the rest of the console in the black and white version).

There's a bit more atmosphere and mood to the color version. And certainly, the last panel explains itself better in color than in the black & white version.

Nice work either way.

Yup. It's the muted yellow in the last panel that really sells me on it. Definitely color.

Yeah the color version to me is better. Thats just me...I have seen a B & W series sell good like The Walking Dead. But here it seems to fit.

go with the color... it softens the imagery a bit... though I DO like the b/w, at times, it can be a bit harsh... it also depends on the story and it's mood, atmosphere and flavor... depending on the circumstances, both could actually work... but my preference in this case is the color... go with it...

I'm usually first for color, but I say go with what works best for you. If a story is good and the art is engaging, I don't think it'll matter to a publisher.

Colour, because I think it looks good with colour and I believe you when you say that a publisher is more likely to be interested in the coloured version.

Double post.

Odd. It ate my reply.

Anyway!

Thanks for all the feedback, guys!

The colored version - especially lettered - is really growing on me. And ultimately more publishers will look at it if it's in color, and it'll (theoretically) sell better, too.

Any and all comments/feedback/opinions still welcome. Art, writing, anything at all!

I didn't draw or color this! Just the writer/letterer.

But thanks!

Even if you were just the letterer, it was still a heck of a job! ;)

Aw!

Thanks. I'm really hoping this is good enough to get picked up, somewhere. HOLLOW is kind of in a holding pattern, but that might end, soon. Hopefully I'll have some good news on that front next week. In the meantime, though, I'm pushing forward with other projects, like this one.

I'm an illustrator too and I prefer to have it colored....because....hey...it's almost the end of the 20th century and black or white is not that "acceptable" nowadays, unless of course the theme of your story was way back the first century. just my two cents:wink:

I liked the color better because it seemed to pull me into the panels more, if that makes sense.

I'd agree, but I think that noir - especially horror noir - looks great in black and white.

40footwolf: Thanks!

Corrina: Yeah. I'm liking the depth it's adding. It actually enhanced the mood, while I was concerned it might kill it.

Any chance you could do an ink wash effect on the black and white version to replicate the
depth of the colored version?

I think that is what's missing. If you watch an old B&W Noir movie, it's all about the shadows between the light and dark far more than the contrast between the two.
